This is a great phone! I gave it to my grandmother running a rom based on AOSP on android 9 and she has no complaints whatsoever! Not only does it work perfectly for what she needs, but the fact that I can buy a new battery for her every two years really helps with the longevity! And wireless charging is also quite convenient for her!

I used to have a S4 my first Samsung phone but it just died on me after 6 months due to faulty motherboard then I went back to iPhone, after my S4 was fixed from the service centre under warranty I give it to my father and he used the phone for 3 years after his phone get overheat very easily and perform very very slow like really bad delay on what matter he press. He went to get S9 afterward because S4 is totally not usable at this point, but after 2 years one day his S9 got too overheated and shut the phone down battery is totally dead and my iPhone 6s after 4 years battery became very weak as well and drain very quickly but doesn't overheat for some reason. So in june this year, we both went to get new phone my father bought the S10 lite and I actually wanted to get iPhone 11 pro max as I want to experience the plus size phone which I had never use one before, but it was over my budget so I went for S20+ instead because it has a promotion only $299 under 2 years contract of $55 monthly. I never have any issue until now hopefully it can endure for some years like my 6s does, but my father is unlucky after 4 days his S10 lite have issue due to faulty screen but it's okay now. Overall my experience is that iPhone can be use for long time than Samsung probably for the price that you invested, I will said that it is worth it. But on the other hand, Samsung can do more amount of things like customization it does make you feel like a admin to your own tech rather than a user like iPhone

@@YourTypicalAverageAsianGuy Maybe so, here in SIngapore it's hot most of the time. Usually my phone doesn't overheat alot because I know how to take care of it. But my father sometimes play games and watch video from his phone so I think some apps or certain software update may be the reason why it overheat the phone on his daily usage after 2 years and also the lifespan of the battery may also be another reason. I tried explained to him how to take care of the battery but he's old so he doesn't know about tech stuff nothing much I can do and he prefer Samsung as he is used to it, he never use iPhone before

That was my previous phone. I have been using an S7 for 3 years now. I used to buy the high end models when they got cheaper, but the prices don't really go down as much anymore and there are so many unwanted features in current smartphones... I don't mind plastic phones at all and the design doesn't matter to me since I just get a case that prevents me from ever seeing what the actual phone looks like after I unpack it. So most of the efforts companies put into trying to get people to buy their products are just doing the opposite to me. I haven't found a single phone that I would like to buy now... There are far more models and far more companies out there now and I also don't know where to look anymore.

It needs more of the print, not just the tip of your finger. It can be finicky to set it up at first, but once you get it it works very consistently. And I gotta say, My s5 is basically a brick at this point. Wish it worked as well as the one you have. Furthermore, I like the video! :)

I used to have an S5 and is honestly my favorite phone of all time although my personal issue with it quickly became that the standard was 16GB of storage, even though you can add an SD card I agree with Apple that they can actually cause performance issues with the phone depending on class of SD card and between preloaded apps that you still couldn't remove all of and the OS you get about 4GB of the 16GB as the most common bit TouchWiz UI does slow down with age making the phones slower, which is honestly just unfortunate, although I did learn that turning off the flipboard briefing (that stupid looking thing if you swipe all the way left) as well as eliminating as many home screens as possible it actually makes for a much smoother running phone. The Easy Mode is actually still available on all Galaxy devices now and is 100% for elderly people, it makes it so they can't rearrange apps on the home screens and reduces so many problems that they have. They do ask about it during set up on some newer generations and the Galaxy a and J series phones as that's usually in the price range that the elderly are willing to pay and honestly younger more advanced users find to be horrible. I do repairs on phones and honestly this phone is painfully reliable and durable, it fits and feels well in the hand but the charge port is definitely a weak spot on all Samsung with Micro USB (type b), I used this phone without any case just tempered glass for about 1.5 years and with several drops and everything it held up very well but the plastic frame did loose a lot of that silver coating and showed a lot more dents than a metal frame would have However I do agree with plastic back, because a lot of people drop their phones and when you pay $1000 for a new phone and it breaks because it's glass on the back that really sucks and is an eye sore, if they can make if have a nice feel I actually agree with it. One of the most amazing things about this phone honestly was it's display, it has wonderful colors and the lowest brightness on this phone was incredible for the time, it wasn't just a dim display it had beautiful visibility for being on low brightness and wasn't at all blinding, honestly the recent apps and back keys are brighter but you can see everything perfectly on that display, even some newer phones can do as well on low brightness. The unfortunate thing here is that the display can also develop low light flicker where the screen will flash yellow when set to low brightness. Otherwise this phone never seems develop motherboard issues and that makes it better than any newer Samsung as they just keep having more motherboard problems.

Still works fine to this day although water resistant is gone because the charger cover broke a while ago. Had to replace battery twice already but still you'll find it very low for the standard nowadays as well as the RAM, which ive been noticing since last year, that its starting tl struggle to have 2 or 3 big apps in the background. The rest is fine, screen is really good for a 6 years old phone which is an amoled full hd 1080p so still holds up to this day and the storage isnt that great but you can use a micro sd.

A lot of people found that annoying but I thought it was cool and made it stand out. I also replaced that plastic back with a metal one. You could find third-party backs for the phone and put a metal back on it if that’s what you want it. I also will agree that being able to switch out the battery was a big plus for me. I missed that feature in my iPhone 11 promax. You didn’t even mention the I R blaster that the phone had. For a long time that was a staple in Samsung phones. Worked great for actual multitasking, like watching a KZread video while writing out my grocery list, or connecting to a Bluetooth speaker with the S5 so I wouldn't go out of range and lose my music while making something to eat. It's not a bad phone, just a little bit slow these days. And yes, I do still have a spare battery for it, because at one time, I was swapping batteries if I needed more run time and couldn't just plug in. By the way, that charge port door is stupidly fragile. It's really quite easy to break the latch on it, and then it'll never lock in place again. I had the notifications turned off because of that happening.

Didn't yet watch the video, I just want to say that I'm watching it on my Galaxy S5 ;) EDIT: Afterthoughts: - You mentioned mods, but I'll ellaborate. Basically all the software problems can be fixed by using custom firmware: S5 has LineageOS support - you get Android 9 with all the patches to this day. And it works way better that TouchWiz. - Both S-Voice and Google Assistant are here because Google. Google used its powers to push Google Assistant to every phone that can handle it (and has GApps, obviously). You only had S-Voice back then. And also you don't have that problem if you use CFW :P - A problem with S5 that you did not mention is its battery life. The battery is... tiny. If you manage it well, it will last a day. If not, it will last a few hours. That makes carrying an additional cell pretty much nessescary. - The plastic back wears off quickly, at least from my experience.

Mine didn't. Got it in 2016. Have to take it to the phone doctor. It's sick.

Still got my S5 as my main backup phone, running LineageOS 16 that still gets roughly two to three updates per month. Still a solid phone for the average user like myself on a newer build of Android. Replaced the battery in it once and I also replaced the camera lens cover since it started to get cloudy on the inside.

I still have an S5, and it was my daily driver until recently. It's running Android 10 thanks to LineageOS and it works just fine. I've used the phone for about 4 years or so before upgrading and I haven't really had any issues apart from performance sometimes being bad in the web browser. I think you could still quite easily use this as your daily driver phone if you make the effort of installing LineageOS on it

I still have this phone, I just don't use it anymore. I got it during the summer of 2015 as I needed a new phone. And I was really impressed at the time. It was a huge upgrade from my previous, $50 Android phone. And I loved everything about the S5, from the IR blaster, to the sharp quality photos, and the crystal clear display. But over time, early 2017, things started going downhill. The phone became very laggy, battery life drained ridiculously fast, and the plastic back started to deteriorate. But it was a nice phone while it lasted.
