Back in 2013, I was having tutor classes for my finals and my teacher had one of these. I remember noticing how nice the tablet looked, how bright and vivid the display was and how smooth the UI felt. That was the first time I came in contact with a Nexus product as well as when I learned about stock Android. A year later I purchased a Nexus 5 which, to this day, is still the phone that provided me with the most joyful experience and made me feel exactly the same as I felt about the tablet. Coming from a Nokia 5530 XpressMusic, the Nexus 5 was leaps and bounds ahead - the feel in the hand, the IPS display, the stock Android KitKat experience, the performance, I could go on. It had its shortcomings, such as the battery and camera, but the pros outweighed the cons. In the 5 years of using it, I've learned how to root it and flash custom ROM's and kernels, and it still runs to this day. Now it's sitting inside its original box and I've flashed it back to the very first build of Android KitKat just for originality's sake.
Nexus 7 2013 really is peak Android tablet.

I still have mine!! 32gb model, I just charged it up and turned it on, updated all the apps. It’s still so fast for something that came out nearly a decade ago! I will keep this forever. The age of tablets this small is dead however this one will always be special to me.
someone need to make an updated nexus 7 :( we need more 7 inch tablets
Nexus 7 was my first tablet ever. It was bought to carry my electronic books I needed in my university. The size of it was just perfect! Very nice to carry in one hand! Years later, I got iPad 9 with Apple Pencil. Then I changed it to iPad Pro and iPad Mini. But none of them were ever used as heavily, as I used my Nexus 7 during my bachelor studies.❤ I think it was a great Tablet back in time! I didn’t experience any problems with it! It is a bit sad, that now market for the small screen smartphones and tablets is decreasing.
I still have my nexus 7 2013 in 2024. Its still perform well, battery changed to new. The screen started to burn after 11 years. Its amazing.🎉
I actually started using it after this video. I remember being really happy with it at the time it launched.
Still use my Nexus to watch KZread and Netflix, probably the best Android tablet when it came out...

The tablet is iconic and worth every penny I paid for it.
I've used so many tablets, ios and android and this one was the most memorable
Watching this on my 2013 Nexus 7 32gb. This thing is still a beast! It's a shame this line was abandoned. If you were to make a tablet with today's spec standards in this form and size it would sell like hotcakes! Would be the ipad mini competitor!

Hey, are you still able to use the official KZread app on it seeing as this maxes out on Android 6? Like without having to use a custom rom or anything. Is it still supported?
Just started to use the nexus 7 again. The experience is just remarkable. The gyro is shot but nothing that screen rotate can fix. Performance is pretty good and perfect for the simple stuff.
I bought myself one of these as a reward for graduating college! One of my best purchases ever :)
I remember when I received this tablet as a christmas present as a 7-year-old kid. Many, many Angry Birds levels were completed.
My grandfather gifted me one of these for Xmas when it was new, I was 10 at the time and absolutely loved it…idk where I’ve put it anymore but I miss it :(
Still the best screen for a small tablet, even better than many brand new tablets in 2021!
Works great as an Android Auto headunit using headunit reloaded. Love it
I remember being so excited getting this for my 10th birthday
Great video btw. Thumbs up!!
I’ve got mine running an unofficial nightly build of Lineage os and it runs great. There’s builds of Lineage os 18.1 which is in effect Android 11. Trick is to repartition the storage, so there’s enough space for the new os. It’s amazing that such an old tablet is still usable 😁
I remember taking so many terrible yet nostalgic photos and videos with this tablet when I was a kid. :P
These are one of the best tablets to repurpose today. Many applications for vehicle infotainment still exist.
I still use mine for games, books, and videos. It's till amazing. It charges slow but other than that, it's still a great tablet.
Still using my Nexus 7 2013. After all these years it’s still a beast with a gorgeous display.

Agreed, works surprisingly well with CapCut and the Motion Ninja video editor. Even Splice run smoothly with editing up to 4K video. Can't believe Android 6 is still so capable. Was top notch hardware back in 2013 with the 1920x1200 screen and still holds up excellent today. Avg is still 9 hrs on the battery. amazing.

In the UK I bought this for £130. It was a brilliant tablet, amazing screen and good size. Afterwards tablets started going to £300-500 and you needed to pay £350+ to get a decent screen.

I still use mine to fly DJI phantom. The app is heavy these days but solved any shortcomings by over clocking the N7 2013 just enough stay ahead. It works great. I have newer iPhone and Samsung I could use instead but it's hard to beat the beautiful big screen
I used to use my Nexus 7 for everything. It is kind of crazy to compare it to my Fold 3 and think about how far we've come. It is still kind of crazy to me that I can take a display bigger than the Nexus 7 and fold it up to fit in my pocket.
My dad uses Nexus7 2011 for GPS. Still working. Good battery life.

Working fine except Android 6. Came here while searching for advice/encouragement on installing Lineage. Somebody mentioned Ubuntu - really?

KZread actually disregards the software resolution and uses the hardwares resolution, so even if you change the resolution to something like 400x640, you can still watch videos with the full resolution of the tablet with no quality loss. I figured that out when I set my amazon fire 7s display to 150x256 🤣

Mine used to occasionally fail to boot, I had two, and they both eventually had this issue from time to time. For some ungodly reason you gave them a firm knock on the back, it would be able to boot just fine right after. They worked perfectly fine besides that until the newer OSs slowed down their performance, but with the factory settings, they are flawless.

I put Android 7.1 on mine and am using it to control Home Assistant until I can get a replacement (chip shortages and all). But it's very slow on a modern Android version, not that Android 7.1 is very "modern". The battery is absolutely poked, or it is the charging mechanish itself that is the issue. Charging is very very slow taking several days to charge. I hear that is a common issue with the Nexus 7.

Love my Nexus 7 and so sad it can no longer update anything Google because they abandoned it as unsafe on net. Someone should be able to make it safe. My original from early 2013 still works perfectly and I have bought other tablets since Google stopped supporting it and none of them are as good. I love tablets for reading books and want them small and light. Nexus 7 is perfect and there is simply nothing else available. Don't want to pay over $1000 for a giant phone which is not quite as big and I don't want my tablet to make phone calls - just get on the net, get books to read, play music (my own) so I can practice, access stuff on net. If anyone has any ideas what programs to use that will work I would love to know about them. I think this tablet is probably good for another 10 years. And all the other tablets are really annoying and heavy and clunky - all of them!! So sad that the best tech is always abandoned instead of improved.
I need a sim card for mine. Please help.
Wish they still made decent 7 or 8” Android tablets. My Nexus 7 died years ago, and I think I might end up buying the new iPad Mini.
