What’s crazy is that even though everyone hated the iPhone 8, it ended up outselling the iPhone X which is crazy. The iPhone 8 lifetime sales are 86 million units worldwide, and the lifetime sales of the iPhone X are 63 million units worldwide.

I absolutely love reviews like this. I love seeing how old technology is faring in the modern day, now that tech has changed and what not. As someone who used to use Androids all the time, one reason I’m ultimately glad I switched to Apple’s iPhones during the 11 era is the fact that Apple’s chips are just ridiculously too powerful to be pushed at launch. The fact that the 8, a phone released in 2017, can support iOS 16 which was released in 2022 is INSANE… this is an A11 chip!! Just goes to show how long Apple products can last and how useful they can be in the long term. That is honestly the most impressive thing about Apple’s products and why I honestly don’t think I’d be able to go back to Android.

My 8+ is on iOS 16 too, but my battery isn’t that bad (but that’s probably because it’s the + and not the normal 8). Yes, I charge it daily or every second day (depending on what I do with it) and around 4 times in a year after 3 or 4 days, but mine doesn’t heat up that much (84% is max capacity, I‘ll probably replace the battery next year). But sometimes it can still get somewhat hot, when I do something very complex, but that isn’t very often the case.

My iPhone 8 unfortunately broke this summer, so I got a SE 1. gen for 20€ in great condition except for a bad battery. Fixed it and every day to day tasks work fine, some stutters here and there, still not the best battery life but other than that it's just fine. Proves that even the older iPhone models get their job done well enough to be a very valid option.

my mom had the iPhone 6s Plus until 2022 so I made her upgrade to the iPhone 11 Pro. My dad had the iPhone 7 Plus until 2022 so I made him upgrade to the iPhone XS. The reason I made them upgrade is because they had outdated phones that had issues. My dad‘s phone was literally bent but still working and the vibration motor came off and you can hear it rattling around inside the phone which meant it either came unplugged or the ribbon cable broke , which also meant that the fake home button didn’t feel like a home button so you couldn’t tell how to press the button although my dad got used to it like that. My mom‘s iPhone still has the physical home button and not the fake home button but I had issues with Reception and car quality which really needed to be fixed. The more important aspect of why I made them upgrade their phones because they were both charging on phones almost all the time and I got tired of watching that especially knowing that I had a brand new phone right now almost never charge, so I’m one of them to have new devices with efficient, batteries capacities and with good battery health. So they got new refurbished phones.

My main iPhone is an iPhone 11 as of right now (currently on the latest beta). I do have an iPhone 8 around, unfortunately the screen is broken. I first bought it in 2018 and used it until late 2019. The phone was performing very nicely and every day was a pleasure to use. Even though it's broken, I want to keep it, since it runs iOS 13.3.1, a very old version of software that still has the old widgets and the classic style notifications (i dont like the ios 15 style notifications as much). It's something you would really like to look back. Something you would always keep, considering the fact that Apple doesn't want you to downgrade your device...

Yes! My wife loves the smaller iphones and has had both the SE and SE 2020 (still using), but I personally think the new SE should go to the current all screen design it truly would be amazing if they offered both. I suppose the 13 mini sort of was that? Can’t say I know a ton about that phone. I used to tell myself (like my wife) that I would never enjoy a larger screen when I had a 6S. Went to an 11 Pro and never looked back and now on a 13 Pro lol I think this is perfect!

In late October, I upgraded from the iPhone SE 2020 (128GB, black) to the 512GB Space Black iPhone 14 Pro Max. I don’t look back at all but I still use my old SE daily for other tasks. For example, if I’m playing a game on my 14PM, I use my SE to watch KZread videos. I have KZread premium so I can use Picture in Picture, but I’d rather just use a device specifically for that so the video overlay doesn’t get in the way of UI elements.

Just gifted my mother with basically a brand new iPhone 8 and she loves it. She had a 16gb 6S with the original battery from 2015. (She doesn’t do much on her phone - and loves the “classic” iPhone design more than the modern iPhone designs). I happened to get this iPhone 8 from Verizon back when they had a get one free promo with a new line. Never really used the phone and it sat in a closet for a few years - so she got an 8 with 99% battery health/no scratches with the original box.

I have the 8 plus in white/gold, it looks great and it's still going strong, despite the ios 16 taking a hit on battery life and performance. Mine is still still usable because the battery is still good and it's fast enough, though opening apps take a little longer than before. The camera is decent but there are newer models with much better image quality. I'd say it's no longer worth buying, probably it's the last year of support and it won't last long after that. I wish the iPhone SE still had a white front as the 8 has, I know most people hate the bezels and the black front helps hiding it, but in white is very elegant, that's why I chose it.

My phone, the XR, is only one year newer. That’s weird to realize, the two phones feel a world apart and yet they’re both the baseline model for their generation, one for 2018 and one for 2017. And, my phone only being about 7 months newer than the 8 was when you made this video, it feels about how you described the 8 here - it’s functional, it gets the job done, there’s not much a newer phone can do that mine *can’t*, but having just bought a 2022 iPad Air it became apparent how much slower my phone is than Apple’s modern processors. So, I’m planning on upgrading my phone soon, but there’s no rush. If the 15 has a USB C port like is rumored, that’ll be a great time to upgrade and finally have all my devices use the same plug - but, in the meantime, my almost-5-year-old XR holds up well, does everything I want it to (other than I often find myself wanting to use Optical Zoom which it doesn’t have), the battery still usually gets me through the day with just one charge overnight, and, well, I’m happy with it :) it was a great purchase for $800, that works out to less than $14 a month if I get a new phone in September.

I inherited my 8 from my grandson who has had even a couple more fancy pants expensive phones since then. I received it with a cracked screen, got it replaced and never looked back. I keep the iOS updated and never have any problems. The battery says 77% and that it should be replaced but it seems to last plenty long enough for me. It takes a great pic as far as I am concerned, It's bigger than my iPhone 5 and original SE but I'm used to that now. I don't want to be lugging around some huge thing as I have a laptop and don't need to try to squeeze one in my pocket. My grandkids have not offered me any further hand-me-ups (downs?) so I guess I will hold off on buying something new until I really need to, my original iPhone SE still works but is bent from being slammed in the car door while in my unzipped jacket pocket.

I can’t complain overall, been a good reliable phone but definitely seeing the battery life going down, it’s at 75% now when early this year it was around 80 or 85%, and it gets a tad bit warm when charging now, i am avoiding updating to IOS 16 cause fear that will make the battery even worse.

Have been using my iPhone 8 since March 2018 and i am still on all original hardware. Battery health is at 81% and it does drain rather quickly but for now I am perfectly fine with using it. What’s keeping me from upgrading is mostly the stupidly high prices for the new ones but I think that as soon as the latest version of iOS is dropped I will have to upgrade. I also might replace the battery once it drops below 80 but depending on when that happens it might not even be worth it if support is dropped next year, which I feel like will be the case. Still great Phone tho, as you said! Watched this video and typed this very comment on it!

Only troubling thing about the older phones is that they're running older hardware. Even installing a new battery won't give you what you would've had on the original OS the phone came with. Newer OS updates will drain the battery even more, since it's new software designed for new hardware, but running on older hardware. Now I'm actually thinking...how would new hardware run on older software? Would it be possible to run a significantly older iOS version on the 2022 iPhone SE? What would that battery life be like?
