Using the Galaxy S6, 6 years later - Review

Ғылым және технология

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge brought the all new glass design and beautiful big display, thrusting Samsung into a new age of premium phones versus the plastic of old. And yet, these are likely the most hated Galaxy phones of all time- how do they hold up 6 years later?

What do you think of the Galaxy S6 & S6 Edge? Were they underrated? Was the hate justified due to the removal of so many classic features? Personally I understand why fans were mad and I think it was a good thing with the S7 bringing a lot of stuff back like expandable storage. In the very least though the S6 Edge is a gorgeous smartphone and it was fun to take a look at it so many years later. Join the discord! --- discord.io/91tech

I remember testing the s6 when it came out in stores and was pleasantly surprised to finally see a Samsung phone perform well and not lag. The UI was also much nicer. Got the S7 next year and that ran really well as well for a while, but the phones still didn’t age too well when it came too software updates and once the battery got degraded the phone felt extremely slow. Still S6 was a good turning point and I could finally recommend Samsung phones for those that liked it’s features and still wanted a phone that performs well enough. Also had a S8 and S10 and those aged much better

Bought the edge version of this bad boy used in 128GB and used it from 2017 (put a new battery in 2018) to 2019 and loved it. Swapped it with a Pixel 3 which died so I used it again for a few months this year. Thing was awesome (it's my favorite design although I wish the back was curved too) and easily the best android phone from 2015. Battery life was subpar for a while and it definitely fell off when I used it this year. I did drop it in a toilet once on a drunk New Year's but it ended up ok since it was in a battery case. I replaced it since Google Maps and Spotify together were too intense on it in the car (didn't reset it much). I upgraded to a Pixel 4a 5G which is an outstanding phone. Also remember that 2015 was the year of Qualcomm's TERRIBLE Snapdragon 810 chips which made every other flagship android phones horrendously hot with terrible battery life.

I had an S6 back in the day and loved it for the screen, fingerprint sensor, the camera and the looks. Later gave it to my mother and she has had it until last week. Got her a new mobile since she found that the battery was lasting too little, which ironically it is something that many already said at day one of ownership back in 2015... I got the S6 back to have it as a spare and good thing that long ago I bought a case with battery (which my mother never liked nor used) and now I'm sort of enjoying it so many years later. The QHD AMOLED screen is quite nice and it isn't very fast but fast enough to use with a tiny bit of patience, it still is more powerful than some low range mobiles that you can buy new today. Software certainly is outdated, Android 7 and even worst a security patch from June 18... Hard to understand a security patch that outdated in a flagship phone when the very same Samsung released last security patch for their low range tablet TAB A6 (2016) in April 2020. They gave a low range device an extra year over a flagship one, makes little sense. I installed the Nova Launcher with a modern icon pack so at least looks fresher.

The charging port is prone to failure over time, but the daughter board is easily replaced, once the back glass is off. Good thing it has wireless charging! It is a shame that it is stuck with 7.0 OS, because some apps are no longer compatible. The above said, these things are cheap today, and still useful, especially as a spare.

My best friend had the S6 till earlier this year and she used to love this phone. But as the time went on, she started to hate the phone more and more due to the storage not being expandable as well as the battery life (Which really was awful at the end. She managed to kill the phone in literally 15 minutes.) Personally I also hated the S6. The phone was so bad, because it removed the features you mentioned, but that's not all. If you take the same picture on the S5 and the S6, you notice, that the S5's photo looks better than the S6's. Yes, you read right. The S5 has a better camera, USB 3.0 (The S6 went back to USB 2.0) and so on. The S5 was the better phone by far in my opinion. But what I really like about the S6 (And in this regard also the S7) is the design of the phone. That's great.

It was my first flagship phone (gold platinum) back in higschool and it looked so cool at the time. I really loved the curved screen but it cracked so easily (same with the S8 lol). Got the S8 after it, and the S21U now and I would still have the S6 edge had it not been stolen. D:

Why add a feature and then take it away? Water resistance, in a prior model but not a newer one? That aside, the main reason I stray away from Samsung is due to their lack of long term support. This phone shows my point exactly. Also, my ex had one of these, maybe the "active" model? It wasn't terrible, but tended to get hot, and also screen burn-in was obvious. I could see where the notifications and keyboard sit quite clearly.

They also removed USB 3, the extra pins on the S5 were for micro USB 3.0, you could buy a 3.0 cable for faster transfers.

My uncle is still using this phone without any problem and its camera is very superb while comparing with the latest flagship phones such as Oneplus 7t,Iphone 10 etc ... High battery draining is the only problem which my uncle have faced from that phone. He owned s6 before 6 years. But i think s6 is not still outdated.❤️

I had the Samsung s6, at was amazing at first with the high-resolution AMOLED display and great design, the performance on release was great, but the battery life was bad. In one year, it was practically unusable; from a charger to charger,. the RAM management was horrible, it couldn't keep any app in multitasking, and the usual Samsung lag started to get more pronounced. It is a shame because it is such a gorgeous design. The double press of the home button gon you instantly the camera which was a great feature. The photos taken were so good for the time.

I had the S6. It was my first Samsung phone. I was in desperate need of a new phone since my Nexus 5 stopped taking calls and I was planning my wedding soI just took whatever the store had in stock. Used Samsung up until the S10 but switched to Xiaomi and then to iPhone. My wife still uses the S10 and at least Samsung has increased support in recent years even if they are still far from Apple in terms of support.

im still using mine, normal s6non edge 32gb model. battery is original but its a 2.5 to 4 hours depending if you previously charged it or (cold charge). the 32gb is really whats killing it for me. System memory is at almost 9gb. otherwise its a solid phone even for today. Camera is super great (2k video 30fps)and holds against A series like a51 and A50. (i started to get camera shutdown randomly "problem accord"). if it had an expandable memory and battery i would never probably change it til 2 or 4 other years.. PS: i dont recommend getting S7 because of the screen light saber issue. just get a new A series. its gonna last alot aswell
