I’m not able to access public datasets. When I click view dataset it says access denied!! What should I do? Pls help 🙏🏻

I wanted to know if though I already entered my payment details for BigQuery, if I could continue to benefit from the free tier like in the Sandbox (10 GB active storage and 1 TB processed queries per month) after my Free Trial finishes. This is a weird question but I discover how to apply for the sandbox after gave my payment method.

Yes, you can still benefit from the free tier, however if you go above that tier you will be billed (whereas Sandbox will automatically keep you within the free tier). You can create a new project and disable billing on it to create a Sandbox environment if you like the guardrails.

This may be old information. I've been trying to create a 'Card Free' BigQuery sandbox account all day and I'm only given a 3 step process that requires a card.

I just tested and was able to make a sandbox without a credit card. However, if you already have a billing account tied to your username, the project creation process may force you to attach it. In this case, you can attach the billing account when you create the project, and then immediately disable billing by following the instructions in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/n5V6uI-fiqSchNI.html. After billing is disabled on the project, you can check to see the "Sandbox" banner in the BigQuery UI. Not ideal, but a workaround!

Currently doing the google data analyst course. On course 3 week 3 and there's a section in the reading that has optional big query practice. I'm currently trying to do that but there is no "Query Table" button. I tried creating a new Query and just typing out what they had in the example but it gives me a string error, I assume because it is not recognizing the dataset ID as anything other than a string set. What is a way around this?

Are you using quotes rather than backticks? You can use `my-project.mydataset.mytable` or my-project.mydataset.mytable but not 'my-project.mydataset.mytable'.

@@aliciawilliams5520 yeah I was. It seems like the data that was in the set got taken out. I just uses a different data set

I cannot see the sandbox box on the top-left. How can I fix it?

In order for the sandbox to work, the billing must be disabled for the entire project. For this reason, I recommend creating a new GCP project just for your BQ sandbox. If you still don't see the banner with the new project, make sure to disable billing following these instructions (sometimes billing can be automatically enabled): cloud.google.com/billing/docs/how-to/modify-project#disable_billing_for_a_project

I don't know what I am doing wrong here, but in my Big Query ("Explore" and "Add Data" section), I don't see "pin the data" selection. I need someone to help me figure out this problem. Thank you very much!

@@jovanym2931 You can pin the 'bigquery-public-data' project by clicking '+Add Data' in the BigQuery Console, and then choose 'Star a project by name', and then type in 'bigquery-public-data' as the project name, then click 'Star'.

@@aliciawilliams5520 Hi, I am having same issue and I have done as you stated, still not able to find any public dataset. What this seem to have done was to create a new project. I don't know if they changed the interface but what I am seeing is so different from what it shows on the guide.

@@ChinenyeAgba Are you able to add bigquery-public-data where it shows in the Explorer pane? If so, you can click the arrow to the left of the name, which will expand a list of all the public datasets. Let me know if this works.

When was this released? I remember when starting at bigquery there was no sandbox
