I haven't seen Sulphur salt block make a difference with flies but they work pretty well to keep ticks off.

I always mix my seed with kids play-sand from Lowe's. I use a hand crank spreader or you can make an oversized salt shaker from a large food can. Cut some large holes in the bottom of the can.Your seed is spread evenly. I get a 5 gallon bucket and mix it.

Too much sulphur can cause some serious problems. The good news is being beside the other choices they shouldn't get too much if they touch it at all. There's really no proof that it helps with anything .

Yeah there is! The settlers used to take dietary sulfur once a week for nine weeks, starting every spring. They’d mix it with molasses, and it kept ticks and mosquitoes off of them. I was a Boy Scout in East Texas, and we went to this summer camp that was full of ticks where some people had gotten Lyme disease. The rule was that you had to drink at least one cup out of some of the camp provided water (they kept them in orange Gatorade coolers scattered all over the place, at different stations). They explained that it had a specific amount of sulfur in it, and that it would keep all the bugs away. And it was such a small amount, we couldn’t taste it. Well one day in the middle of the week, about noon, I realized I had a couple mosquito bites and about that time, I got bit on the stomach by a horse fly, then I got bit on the back, and finally on the stomach again. I said “dang these flies are biting me!” And one of the camp staff members said “you didn’t drink the water did you?” I realized I hadn’t, and went to drink two cups immediately. Blew my mind that it worked! We had a stray cat a couple years ago he was bad fly bitten on his eyes, so I mixed up equal parts coconut oil and bakers yeast (which contains sulfur) to a bowl and set it on the porch next to his food. He ate it, and within a day, there were no flies on him. Within a week, he could open his eyes again.

Some say it works many say it doesn't. It'll be cool to see what works for you.

Greg Judy is testing Redmond Garlic Salt Block to fend off flies. I don't know how is that working out yet? Maybe you can try it too.
