I love this as a train guy. This reminds me a lot of the Glasgow Metro. It's just a big loop line. I like seeing what normies...uh, I mean non-trainspotters, do when they play metro games. Loop lines are a common strategy for cities that have spoke-hub lines. Systems like the Moscow Metro have most of their lines head to the city center and they intersect a lot, which is nice if you want to head to the center. But if you're in an outer area, it can be difficult to get to a different outer area without heading to the center. This is where loop lines come in handy. You don't have to go all the way in, just transfer to the loop line.

Cutting the loop might help. Also, as others have said you could modify the challenge to be "multiple lines, but same route". Its fine if you don't have enough bridges, the lines don't all have to traverse the whole length of the "main" line. You can also try a massive single "loop" made of multiple lines that never overlap.

  • @kailomonkey

Yes. The ideal line visits different station types between each station as much as possible and any line that has an end where the train doubles back on itself visits the same station type immediately after one possibly different station at each end. As in if you end with a circle and before the end is a triangle, the train visits triangle-circle-triangle. Also if you put two of the same shape in a row at the end say two circles, the train visits circle-circle-circle whereas connecting those two circles together in a loop remains just two circles visited in a row not three.

So for those three shapes, the less sides the less demands to go to the places so cirles could represent like resisdential areas or outer areas of a city wheras a square could represent a large tourist magent which is why there is so few of the aswell.

Not fair, Melbournes entire network of TRAINS will pass thru the CBD with a ever efficient Round-a-Bout the trams act like connecters meshing thru the CBD and linking arterials in the larger LGA cities, an lately we're getting a outer loop. It's gunna be great

Why the train was “delayed” - a train will wait for the train in front of it to get ahead by 2 full station stops before proceeding.

Seems like developing 1 line to max works good. Just needed to start adding more lines after.

as to let it go further, why not "cheat" a bit on the one line and have one circuit/shape of the tracks, but lines over lines? (is it even possible to do that?)

you can have two and three (haven't tried if four yet) lines running parallel between the same stations. If that is what you mean with "lines over lines" it is possible

the only trouble you might have in that regard is having double/triple the amount of bridges depending on how many lines you wanna run. theoretically it could be really cool to use the extra lines to expedite service on opposite sides of the river when bridges are in short supply. Might be considered "cheating", but I do love to see these games go on for a very long time lol
