I used your techniques while busking on the 10th and was invited to a mansion house party to play with a DJ for the following day! Amazing stuff. I am eternally grateful. Are you sure the sax lesson mafia won't come after you for giving such great info for free? 😂 Cheers mate!

Excellent! we spend so much time teaching the "I wanna learn to improvise" students how to walk before they can run basic, simple rhythmic playing and ideas on less notes ... listen, hook, follow and repeat. Great for live coaching improvised horn sections ... herding cats! 😆

Up now Andrew!
You know it’s like looking at a forest and someone points out single trees growing in a pattern. It all makes sense when Jamie points it out - if you think this video is awesome try being in his Inner Circle (I was not paid to say that) - imagine the stuff we learn over there! Thanks Jamie for all the instruction and sharing a piece of yourself every week! 🎉

Don't like sopranos normally, but that one sounds great! Sometimes its best to just keep it simple, nice clean lines, and a tune that someone can hum after you've played it! Thanks Jamie!

👍Great place to start with structure, call and response, et cetera. It also is a big help knowing what you're playing as you're playing it, and how it fits in. Everybody hates to hear this, but knowing all the keys and scales, etc inside outside helps a lot to get started, as well as interval training. As I learn more tunes on alto and tenor, listening to the jazz masters that I like, and learning originals and standards that they played, I'm finding it all so important to understand and emulate through embouchure, fingering, attack, vibrato, dynamics, rhythm, tone, et cetera; all the techniques that make the magic happen with the phrasing. There are so many subtle nuances, and some players are easier to emulate than others, but the greats are always harder to reach, which is daunting at times for an intermediate player. I used to think reading and jazz conception would make me a better player, as I was self teaching, but eventually I realized that you really need to learn to speak to language, (even the "slang," lol) and comprehend what you're hearing, and then things have a better chance of falling into place. 😉 Listen, Practice, Rest, Repeat..🎷
