The Thermotex Platinum is a highly versatile far infrared therapeutic device. It has 3 heat inserts, to easily mold and adapt to almost any body part including the upper and lower back, shoulder, hamstrings, abdomen, arms, legs, and feet.
After just 20 minutes of use, the Thermotex Platinum's infrared wavelengths penetrate up to 2.36 inches into the applied area. This results in an increase in blood flow, which can help enhance healing and pain relief.

I wish our clinics here would use this more. I've just discovered far infrared and I'm surprised we never learned about this modality in school. I'm not a fan of passive treatments except ultrasounds and now far infrared heat/light therapy because they act on a deep cellular level, not superficial. And this is physics!

I bought the platinum hoping it would help with my plantar fasciitis, and I do have to be careful. I am not diabetic, but about 15 minutes is all I can do without feeling a slight burning sensation afterward on the sides of my foot. So do be careful. To me it feels almost like a slow starting heating pad. Perhaps everyone is different. The jury is still out on whether it will help with pf. I need to use it a few more days/weeks. I have only had it for a couple of weeks using it once a day on average.

I use a near-infrared pad for back pain and fibromyalgia, with great results. I wonder how far-infrared differs. I once tried a far-infrared sauna at a home center, which made me so light-headed I couldn’t walk for about half an hour. I have POTS, so maybe that was why. Is dysautonomia listed in the caution instructions?

Thanks, and you're welcome. Far infrared heat does not get super hot like traditional heating pads. This is actually a good thing because too much surface heat can dry out the skin. So most likely it's doing what it's suppose to do, but it often won't have that super hot feeling.

It's not a complete tear and the location is on the outside the knee. I haven't done alot outside the water, however. it's a bit uncomfortable when I attempt a squat, jumping jack, and the like, outside the water. Wondering, your thoughts/any direction on the direction I can go to address, more effectively. I'd appreciate any insight and direction you are able and willing g to share. I just bought a heating pad and the instructions said a diabetic shouldn't use it without checking with your doctor first. I wonder if it's because some people might not be able to feel if the pad is too hot in some areas of the body. Do you know if there are any precautions with this product? It looks like something that my back could really benefit from. Thanks.

  • @AskDoctorJo

    @AskDoctorJo

    7 жыл бұрын

That is usually the reasoning. Many times diabetics don't have as much sensation in their hands and feet, so there is a higher risk of getting burned. It would still be best to ask your doctor, but since this is heat from light, it is less likely to burn, even if you don't feel it. Good luck.

Red light is a general term for infrared light. It has different intensities on the light spectrum, so far infrared or near infrared for example. It just penetrates deeper than traditional heat, and it's usually not as hot on the skin. The amount of time really depends on what you are using it for.

Hello Doctor Jo, I've subscribed to your video. How do I use the Thermotex product if I am feeling inflammation and stiffness all around my feet, ankles, going up to my knees? Is there a particular Thermotex Infrared Heating Pad that I should look for. I'm trying to stay inside a budget so that my wallet or credit card does not feel the pain that my feet, ankles and lower legs are experiencing. I appreciate your help and guidance Doctor Jo.

Is this truly "far" infrared spectrum radiation? And is far better than near infrared? thank you

Yes, it is. They are just on different ends of the spectrum which do slightly different things.

Any thoughts on the safety of this with Rheumatoid Arthritis?

I am pretty sure it would be safe, but you might want to discuss it with your rheumatologist first.

Thank you. What makes this particular brand better than others. Others seem to be more pliable so as to mold more easily also this is one of the more costly. What makes it worth the added cost?

You're welcome. I'm not sure about the others as I haven't tried them, but often some will claim they are "light therapy" which is not the same as Far Infrared. There are also different kinds of infrared, some not as affective as others.

Dr. Jo, I have recently been Dx with severe Degenerative Disc Disease in my lumbar spine; from T12 to S1. I'm currently working with a spine and pain specialist and he said it's ok if I purchase but had no further opinion as to the efficacy of infrared therapy. In your professional opinion, do you think I would benefit from the type of therapy that this product provides?

I do think it will help, but I don't know for sure without getting to evaluate you. Is the spine and pain specialist a physical therapist, or have you gone to physical therapy?

AskDoctorJo prior to knowing the full diagnosis of DDD I participated in physical therapy for approx 2 1/2 to 3 weeks. Though I felt supporting muscles getting stronger, my back pain didn't get any relief; in fact my back pain increased which is why at that point an MRI of my lumbar spine was performed which revealed the DDD Dx and the breadth of area involved. The next step is spinal injections. Due to the large area involved, it's looking like I'm a candidate for a surgery evaluation. Im trying to find alternatives to just using opiates for pain relief.

If you haven't tried aquatic therapy, it might be worth it. Many of my patients have had significant relief from exercising in the water (not swimming, but exercises).
