This is a big help for visualization of the neck and how to get the most out of scales. Please keep posting material like this. I’ve always been overwhelmed and discouraged by music theory topics but your channel is really helping me in a big way!

It's funny, a lot of this stuff is stuff I noticed before, in terms of just sheer pattern recognition. But, I never put the thought into remembering exactly which notes are being played. That's what I love about your channel. You take things even experienced, self taught guitar players already knew, and put some context into it that they (I, really) may not have been noticed before. Like playing the notes of a chord either parallel, behind, or in front of to achieve similar, yet vastly different results. Never put those small pieces together. But now, those small pieces make an enormous impact. Thanks

Same here E really sucks as a bassline and E standard has a very limited dynamic reach / range D seems to fit really decently I am considering going lower but C didn't sound right overall to me so maybe B or A for the BASS but that also seems a bit extreme so D is a nice starting point in any case

I play in Drop D exclusively, so this channel is really awesome to me because most of the lessons are for Drop tuning and a fair amount of them are things i've already thought of or been through in my journey, just put into words with a talented lesson. I love your lessons! Not sure if I have asked before, but what do you think about the altered F barre chord shape for Drop tuning? It's just an F Barre chord but you move fret 1 up a whole step since the low string is tuned down a whole step from standard. What I do personally is bar the three low strings with my pinky, fret the 2nd fret on the G with my 2nd finger, and then bar the top two strings with my first finger. Have you ever played this chord shape, and if so, have you played it with this fingering? I personally find this shape easier than the traditional F barre chord in standard, though it has occured to me that many players may not like it because of the heavy use it places on the pinky. And of course, once you learn this shape, you can move it around and get huge 6 string chords all over the place, making playing along in other keys a cinch, especially once you know the basic A string barre chord form for the ones that get just a little bit highly voiced for the altered F barre. Also, just as a helpful note, when I started out learning, using octave shapes to locate a whole bunch of instances of the same note really helped me. And also, I learned the minor scale on the low D string exclusively first. Just knowing that can give you tons of riffs, since a lot of heavy bands love those low string riffs. Plus, In Drop D it was awesome because just learning the minor scale on the lowest string meant I knew it on the high D, too! So bam... Two strings I can play with from one pattern. Then learning the A string was practically a cinch because every fret is the same except for fret 2 is 1 for the Bb. So just by learning the minor scale on the low string in Drop D, I basically could totally mess around with three low strings with nearly the exact same pattern across all three. Then adding the rest of the strings came later. And moving it around to different keys. So that was pretty rad 😀
