    Well not that you needed it, but you gained mad respect. You could've said, "I'm a big contractor, and know what I'm doing, and not even mentioned the person, who criticized the Roxul install. But you took the time and consulted Roxul, w/o thumbing your nose at him. No, install is 100%, there are always things we wish we could go back on. I'm an electrician by trade and I always nit pick my own work. And, I'm no expert, although I also was part of a class 1 install, here in PA in my early construction career. I thought it was pretty impressed with myself. although, now I have a leaking roof, at the joint, of a flat roof, and a pitched roof. And, I can't find for the life of me, where it's leaking, so I understand humility. These old row homes in NEPA are terrible. Great video and great job on the house.

    Plaster is a great way to go, if you can find crews that know the ins and outs of doing it successfully. Drywall has become so standard that quality plasterers are a rare breed in most areas of the US. Plaster walls are so much more durable that drywall, as anyone who has demolished a plaster wall can attest to...lol.

    I think calling it a scratch coat is a bit of a stretch - the whole surface wasn’t done and it wasn’t scratched for adhesion - calling it a scratch coat makes it “seam” like your over selling the new plaster method by using old school terms. However, it looks beautiful and nice work.

    It's done on normal houses also. I'm in the Boston area and my 1981 colonial has skim coat plaster walls. It's definitely not a high end home. When we renovated the kitchen and laundry room recently they used the same process. It wasn't an upgrade - it's what they use on all of their jobs. I think it's great. The wall is very durable and is super smooth and flat without any sanding. I'd love to know more about why there are so many plasterers in this area.

  • @ssconeson1189

    There's sooo many old homes here that people grow up realizing how much nicer plaster is - deadens sound, more durable than drywall, just "feels" better. And because so many houses still have plaster - old horsehair & lathe plaster - there's lots of tradesmen who still know how it works. So it's not a big expensive niche thing to hire out for newer builds. All the truly brand new stuff in Boston is plain drywall though because they are building it cheap & fast and calling it luxury because it has gray walls and fake marble counters.

  • @jamesbasye2362
    @jamesbasye23626 ай бұрын

    You can use normal drywall metal corner beed or regular mud on drywall corner beed instead of that rough lathe strip, plaster and drywall go hand and hand, also dont need to use blueboards, most plaster guys ive seen use normal drywall and finish the drywall to a level 3 finish then use a mineral based bonding primer, that being said they make plasters that are no different than normal drywall mud and that are made of gypsum so it takes all the different problems away like how long it takes to cure and what it can adhere to

    Nick is correct in saying it’s moisture and also pH. This is a lime based plaster, so that causes the pH levels to be high for a period of time, just like lime based cement work. The pH will drop over time in the plaster, as well as the moisture.
