Hey there, for your basecoat did you just use drywall compound? Then diamond veneer with water for top coat? Thanks!

I used “Imperial” base coat. Then Diamond veneer. You could use another brand other than Imperial. But t the base coat must have sand as an aggregate in it.

Great video! A plaster section covering the brick party wall in my unit seems to have broke off and separated from the brick. I removed the loose section and I am planning to use plaster again to restore the original feel of the apt. Another challenge would be to ensure the new plaster section is flush with the old section! Any recommendations on what the best approach would be greatly appreciated.

Sure thing, remove the plaster that is loose, it will be dusty, so you need something to bond the plaster to the chimney, Plaster Weld is a good product or Quickrete bonding agent. Basically it is PVA glue(carpenter glue) thinned down. Paint that on and you’ll create a bond between old and new. You can go two ways, use plaster or Gypsum products. If it is a small area I would use Gypsum, only because it will be hard to find small quantities of the kinds of plaster. Scratch coat, base coat and veneer coat all in 50 # bags . Most hardware stores sell, two kinds are Easy Sand or Durabond the product comes in minutes it takes to solidify. So 20 minute Easy Sand is a good start. Use Sheetrock tools or plaster tools to apply. Build in levels to make it flush If your thickness is greater than 3/4”-1” then I would use a metal large and secure it to the brick after you paint the brick

Great video. Did you use Diamond Veneer for the final coat or a Durabond product?

Durabond is not a finish plaster , it’s to strengthen the coat before you use unikal , diamond is weak and takes to long to set

What bonding agent do you use? Do you apply bonding agent to your drywall first as well?

I use Plaster Weld or Durabond. They are basically carpenter glue thinned with water(that’s how they do it in England. Plaster Weld is pink so you can see where you paint it on.
