On example 1 at 1:40, I meant to state molecules instead of atoms! If it were atoms since CO2 has 3 individual atoms ( 1 C and 2 O ) it would be 3 times our final answer so for atoms it would be 9.0 x 10^23 times 3 so the answer would be 2.7 x 10^24 atoms CO2 And for the practice problem 4:05 instead of molecules it should be formula units but the answer is still correct. Sorry guys I tend to take these questions from previous exams and I didn't catch the question was worded incorrectly. Note: We use the following units for different types of elements, compounds etc. Atoms: Individual elements like Fe, Mg etc. Molecules: Covalent Compounds CO, CO2, SO2 etc. Formula Units: Ionic Compounds NaCl, KBr etc.

Why not just redo the video since the first problem you did has a major error in it? I'm assuming a lot of people don't check the comments; this may have caused lots of students to get confused or get this concept wrong altogether! IMO, it’s messed up that you left the video the way it is. 🤦🏻♂️
Studying for my chem midterm right now wouldn't be able to do it without you thank you so much!
It's crazy how you explain things so simple. My textbook is just nonsense to me. I spent last night studying and your videos helped me a lot. Thank you so much.
You are a life saver !! i have been struggling the past few weeks, and watching your videos I was able to complete and learn so many things just in one day, wish i had found your page sooner but hopefully this will be enough to help me pass the class
I wish I found you sooner! I'm on week six and I have been struggling. Your videos have been the only ones that help. I even linked your videos to people in my class because they are super helpful and easy to follow. Thank you.
THANK YOU!!! You are a great teacher and made this so much easier for me to understand. You taught it better than 2 weeks of class ever did. :)
I was so lost before watching your videos. Thank you for breaking it down. I'm doing a lab right now on avogadro's law in the "gases" chapter...just when I started to get the hang of it, they threw in percent deviation of a table (propane, butane and methane) 🥲gunna keep watching you videos to hopefully remember how to do all that. Thanks for the explanations!
i learned more in a 4:37 video than i did in my teacher’s 45 minute lecture!!!

Melissa, at 4:05, I think "molecules of MgO" should really be "formula units" or at the very least, "particles", since MgO is really an ionic compound...?
Helping me pass Chemistry and the manicure's always poppin. Thanks
I LOVE YOUUUU YOU HAVE JUST SAVED MY LIFE 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁🙂🙂🙂
Sorry, I’m confused. Why is it that the first practice problem not only has 10^24, but also why is it rounded that way? When I multiplied 7.32 by Avagadro’s number, I got 44.081, and since there’s only three sig figs, why isn’t it just 44.0? Why is the decimal place off?? I think I did something wrong but I can’t tell what

On the problem at 4:05 could you explain why your answer is 1.03 x 10^ -18 and not 10^28? Thank you this would really help.
@melissamaribel
5 жыл бұрын
So remember Avogadro's number has a positive exponent of 23 not negative. If you got 10^28 then you are using 6.022 x 10^ -23 and you should be using 6.022 x 10^ 23.
Interesting video I like it
How did it become - 13?
can someone pls explain how she got the exponent of -13 and i got 33
@melissamaribel
4 жыл бұрын
You are dividing not multiplying the numbers together. You accidentally multiplied them instead of dividing them. When we divide numbers in scientific notation we subtract the exponents so 10-23 = -13
Percent Yield and Net Ionic Equations please.
Wow I actually understand
mellissa you are a nice teacher . but you know what my problem is , the questions which are supposed to take a very less time , takes comparatively more time . this is cuz of a fact that I'm not allowed to use calculator for divison and multiplication purpose so it takes time for me (specially for me ) to solve those easy peasy question , resulting in a very less marks
I love chemistry😍🥰
I am having difficulty figuring out setting up the problem how do you know wether the Avorgadro number should be on top or bottom when figuring out equation?

@DOAU

You determine this by looking at the previous unit that is on top of the fraction and see what you need to cancel out. Whatever you need to cancel out on the upper left, you put on bottom right to cancel it out.
What about ions?
@3:36 why is it negative 13? I'm confused😣
@melissamaribel
5 жыл бұрын
When you divide by the same base (10) you subtract the exponents. So 10-23 is -13. You can review this math topic by watching this other video ➡️kzread.info/dash/bejne/lZ16sc6iot2aetY.html Also if you put this into your calculator correctly it will give you the correct exponent of -13.
i understand alot
For practice question #2 I got the answer 1.03x10^28. How is it the its to the power of -18? :( confused!
@melissamaribel
4 жыл бұрын
Make sure to check your set up, it should look like this: (6.21 x 10^5 molecules) x ( 1 mol/ 6.022 x 10^23 molecules) You are dividing not multiplying the numbers together. You accidentally multiplied them instead of dividing.

@@melissamaribelit's the calculator .. some scientific calculators when dividing need to have the whole number in brackets
This teached me better than my actual teacher
Confused, so when you say formula units do you mean grams, mg, etc. or does the problem have to say, "Formula units?" I am using this book with a bunch of chemistry practice problems and I'm at the mole calculations section. For example it says: "How many moles of NaCl are in 10.0g of NaCl?" When I look at the answer at how to get it, they don't use avogadro's number they use 1 mol of NaCl/molar mass of NaCl. Your video says you can use avogadro's number when it says it's asking for how many "moles?"
I Love Chemistry...When I actually get what it means. Chemistry and I have lost..Well the Chemistry when it came to stoichometry. NOW I GET IT
Like others I got 10^33 not the correct 10^-13 answer. Here’s how I fixed the settings. If using a scientific calculator it is okay. I have a TI-84 plus CE. Press the mode button, then make sure it’s in SCI not (NORMAL or ENG) mode. Then for example #2 you would enter: 7.2 multiplied then “2nd” then “EE” then 10 then divide 6.022 multiplied then “2nd” then “EE” then 23 Answer will then show the correct -13 not 33 on a TI-84/PLUS/PLUS CE calculator
That was pure
