I have a gate hinge and thought of making a froe with it, nice durable apocalypse tool. I'm going to put a 90 right angle near the tip though and have a 1.5-2 inch kickoff that will be chisel sharp for use in gouging channels and bowl work. Definitely one of the forgotten keys to civilised living 👍

I have found that if you don't want to damage your hands, splitting the log with an ax, as he has done in this video, is the best method. Also, give the fro a good hard whack and then use the handle to pry it apart. Hitting the protruding end of the blade causes the fro handle to whip against your hand as though you were beating it with a stick.

I think I'm going to get a froe for splitting kindling. I use a hatchet, but doing this regularly for a few decades, I can see myself losing a finger or two.

@Leonidas Piledriver Look for some growing on a woodpecker hole mate. Also make sure to put loads of shrink wrap on your little fella so as not to get any splinters .

Nice to see some Froe promotion. Great vid as usual. A tip is to not make the shingles one by one from a large block like that. It will taper off and get to thin in the end. Instead, you should make halves and then halve them in turn till you get the right thickness. With bigger loggs you can make the shingles radially instead. Here's a pro in action: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h451k6xxgqvSpLw.html
