Hi, not even sure if you are active on this channel anymore. But I wanted to let you know that because of this video, I was able to help a senior record on vhs again. He is very rigid due to many needs and limitations, and the only thing he ever thought he was good at was recording his tv with his vcr. Since the digital TV transition about 14 years ago, he hasn't been able to record. Other workers tried to get him onto DVDs or even cable DVR, but he could never learn them and they weren't his VHS tapes. It was literally all he talked to me about the past three years I've worked with him and I'm a social worker, not a tech person, so it took me this long to stumble upon this you tube. And today, for the first time in 14 years, this man can record VHS tapes again. So, sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart.You helped someone who needed it to be happy again 🙌🙏

Personally I’ve always had a massive interest in the modern history ever since I was a kid (nowadays it’s more popular culture from the 60s till now). Unfortunately the KZread hobby was more a fad being that it was a very fun back in the day but just doesn’t seem to interested me anymore and I’ve since moved on the other things . But hey never say never 😉

Thanks for helping yet another senior, to record old episodes of xxx??? to a VHS tape! I have boxes and boxes of used VHS tapes, and this is much cheaper than buying each set or episode!

VHS AND CASSETTE TAPES! WoO! Got a ps3 or xbox 360? Most of us do. Just connect the video cables to a VCR and hit record when you watch netflix or insert a dvd. Crap loads of bands are also releasing Cassette's this year. Cassette's in my 2006 Mustang sound amazing. Haha Us Millennials' and younger generations are keeping it alive.

I love this kid!!!! I agree. I just bought a VCR and a tape deck is on the horizon. Mix tapes and tv shows that you can fast forward through the commercials!! I just wish the VHS tapes weren’t stupid expensive now

This is awesome! a CRT tv, rabbit ears antenna and a VCR. All you need is some tin foil on the antenna. ACTUALLY, I want to record a show from my digital OTA antenna and DVRs are stupid expensive so this is my alternative but I didn’t think about a VCR not recognizing the broadcast signal anymore. What if I want to use a security camera and record to vh s on vc r with a converto r box

I am now very interested to know how this could be one, if at all, on an HD TV with HDMI. If the RCA was converted to HDMI with a converter box, would the effect be the same? Also, does the time shifting feature still work on the VCR? One of the most useful features on some higher-end models was the ability to set recording times while out of the house, or even being able to record different channels in sequence through the built-in tuner.

Is there a way to record television shows onto a VHS tape, without having to have an actual antenna? For example, if I were to purchase "Free Clear TV" a simple coaxial stub screw in, do you think that would be enough of a connection to record a show onto a VHS tape?

I've actually got my VCR connected to the cable box via an RF cable, and there are no issues with it on my end. I've done this with various VCRs, including a Panasonic, JVC S-VHS, and Sony.

Do you take the output from your box and put it in the input of your VCR?? If so does that convert the signal to analog?? And if so are you able to then record digitally broadcasted shows to your VCR??

i just got a hdmi to av adapter unpluged the hdmi cord going into my tv from the cable box, and plugged it into the adapter. Then got av cables and plugged them into the front of my vcr. (also plugged the micro usb cable into the adapter so i can power on) And i recorded a icarly marathon on vhs!

Very good brings back memories. VHS is inferior to modern recording methods. But, it is easy to do with no software involved. What I want to use my old VCR is to record stream by using a HDMI Splitter to HDMI convertor to RCA then to VCR . Many programs are copy protected but what I want is not. Just for fun to see if it will work.

you mean you have a VHS/DVD combo? you only insert the VHS tape in the VHS part, then blank DVD dl disc in DVD part. Then you will have a "dubbing" opinion, make sure that's you have that's it transfer VHS to DVD and not vice versa. if you do anything wrong, that's you're own fault.

Can anybody be help me , i fly tiny camera drones called tinywhoops and I fly them FPV “ first person view “ with a pair of goggles for my fave that receive a video wireless signal of 5.8ghz , I have a dvr that records everything on a micro SD card , but sometimes I plug my goggles into my New LCD tv , and it got me thinking the other day about the old days with the old 📺TVS with built in VHS player & recorder all in one unit ! , I used to watch tv all the time and hit record when I favorite shows came on and it would record to the vhs tape and you could record over as many times as you want kinda , so I got me thinking can I plug in an AV cable and record the live video feed coming from my 5.8ghz video transmitter camera , onto the vhs systems ? , I can’t remover if it will record whatever is on the tv screen or if it only will record what the tv receives as far as the broadcasted tv show ? , I really want to find one of thoes old TVs again so I can record my FPV flights easy on vhs so if I crash in the neighbors yard I can stop the footage and replay it to help find the aircraft , and it’s a super easy simple systems to record with vhs I just can’t render if it will record a video Input signal from the AV cables , thanks a lot

5:43 I know you are not going to need the right audio for the TV, but you can at lease record everything in stereo on tape if you connect the right audio to the VCR. Maybe someday you would want to watch the things that you have recorded in stereo on a different TV that would have a red RCA input.

Cable TV makes this more difficult. Cable TV actually has macrovision coding protection in their boxes preventing the digital signal from being switched to analog. Something I haven't tried though that might work would be taking the coaxial cable's output from your box, putting it to the input of your digital set top box, then taking the RCA output and plugging it into your VCR, then so on. Never thought about that before.

hey man, do u use blank tape or pre recorded tape? I used pre recorded tape but then after its done recording, the color turns to black and white. Any suggestions?

sure you can always get way with prerecorded tapes just remember two thing please recognise that on a bottom of a tape is a little square on blank tapes it is usually filled with a tab if u wish to rerecord over the tape make sure the tab is there if not apply some sticky tape over the little hole instead. The second thing is to consider that if it is a prerecorded tape u don't know how many times it has been used and what temperatures and conditions it has faced over the years the tape could be worn out by then. but that being said most big companies like SONY, TDK and MAXELL used to make good quality tapes that would last long so u shouldn't really have worry about tape ware on a used tape if its from a good manufacturer. using prerecorded tapes is highly recommended by tape enthusiasts because they are usually very cheap. That being said you could consider buying new never used factory sealed tapes this way they wil give you the best quality because they are new and they will most certainly come with labelling stickers :D. the down side is new blank tapes can be a little pricey depending on the manufacturer and the seller. new blank tapes can be found on sites like Ebay.

Forgot to ask...why aren't you using the red (audio) cable, but rather just composite video and one audio channel? That won't work for me cause then I won't have a stereo signal. Shouldn't there be white-yellow-red coming out of the box into the VCR, and likewise all three coming back out the VCR and into the TV? One more question - what happens with the antenna once it's plugged into the box? Doesn't it have to come back out to send the signal to the VCR and then eventually to the TV? I don't recall you referring to any additional antenna connections...? I can't imagine that the video cable alone from the box to the VCR supplies the digital TV channels?

To answer your first question, his TV is a mono TV, so he doesn't have the stereo option on the back, so he can't use the stereo on the digital set top box and VCR and then just plug in the two to his TV, that would mess the audio up. To answer your second question, plugging your antenna to the digital set top box is all you need to do. Once you connect the antenna to the set top box, the signal will be there, and by taking the RCA outputs from the box to the VCR, the signal will then be carried to the VCR's INPUT 1, naturally the VCR's output will carry that signal to the TV, and there you go. So the RCA from the box going to the VCR IS the connection that sends the signal of the antenna to the VCR if you didn't understand that.

So we need a fancy box, or is that box like a Sky box?

Company's start making blank VHS tapes again just like when they started vinal records again

Hey chum, this was awesome, considering no-one else seems to have posted this on the internet or is a little confusing - one question, this would be ok with set-top boxes "of old" WITH RCA/Audio-Video jacks, but the new ones don't have RCA/Audio-video jacks at the back anymore - is there a way with just the "scarts" they now have, you can replicate and record what you taught us? If anyone's wondering whether there are VCRs with a digital tuner after watching this video, there are! One such model is the Panasonic DMR-EZ48V. They're not as common as your standard VCRs, but they do exist. Beware though, they'll probably run you a couple hundred dollars on eBay. I suggest looking out for em at your local flea market or thrift store.

@Tool Time I actually haven't had a problem with this VCR, and I've been using it for at least a year. Recently, I put a dirty copy of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in (MY BAD! Shoulda cleaned the tape), which caused it to cease up and squeak a bit. Grabbed some alcohol and cleaned the tape path and heads, and it's totally fine.

Not sure if you can unless you have a ATSC modulator which would convert the RCA to a RF signal. You might be able to do it that way. Assuming your VCR had a tuner which pretty much all VCR's did.
