Thanks to several commenters. They pointed out the teeth on the end of the ripper shank were installed upside down. Looks like someone at the factory messed up. I am going to try to fix them so that it digs in like it should.

Evan, that land plane needs to sit flat when ripping as it's the depth gauge for the ripping tines. Reduce the number of tines you are using, maybe down to three, and add some weight. Drop an IBC onto the plane and add water till you get the required weight. 3 point links can lift up but can't push down, you need implement weight for downforce.

I don't know about that TYM[?] but my 1968 IH Farmall has active down pressure on the three point. (And as a side effect the pump must be used to lower it, so if you shut it off with a raised implement it will stay raised no matter how you cold work the controls.)

When we cut down trees or branches on or farm. We will pile the branches or trees in the goat pasture as long as they are goat safe to eat. They love tree leaves, it makes a great treat for the goats. Then we remove the leafless branches a few days later.

On my box blade the tines dig in very well. In Florida on one side of the building i needed the rock removed so i could replace the metal and had to get down over a foot. While doing so with pressure pushing down sounded like i was going to break them off. It did it pretty good. That land plane is what i need for my driveway but it's not in the budget this year.

I just bought a 7' land plane from Everything Attachments and LOVE that thing! After doing the driveway, I put in a new garden using a 6' tiller, then leveled it nicely with the land plane, after it dried for a few days. Now I'm looking to level a few acres of grass that I mow, so the mower doesn't beat me to death at high speed, even though it has sprung suspension with shocks. I'm super happy that I finally bought one! You guys have a great channel, Evan! Thanks for sharing what you do!

Still mowing yards here, all the way to the cliff edge, long grass has laid down so its a mess to mow, add in wild roses and bull briar and its a job! Then got to cut back all the brush/weed trees that have grown the last 2 yrs. Maintaining is a lot easier then cleaning up the mess for sure!!

You need less ropper but you need to lower the right side only. After you fix your hole leave the right side minimally lower. Make two passes each direction the second about two feet to the left.do the same the other direction. That will give you a slight crown to your road. And you wont be ripp ik ng your fabric.

Evan I'll give you a little tip. You have the best thing there is to get rid of the thorns on your honey locust. You have your torch on the 20 lb cylinder. Simply lite it and start at the bottom of the tree and burn them on up as high as you can reach. Saves getting stuck with them and getting them in your tires.

Looks real good. Im no expert Evan but I did notice your driveway is concave but your rippers were straight across. (It shows on your video)if you keep your rippers on the driver side short and the other two long (with the end one longest) you will get a curved effect and all your rippers will dig in before you rip up your fabric. (shown on your video that just the one on driver side dug up fabric)this of course only applies when your on the side of road, the center is less curved. As observed on your excellent video. You really are an accomplished cinematographer, I’m hoping folks in that area will notice and someday you get an award for it.

The weeds and vegetation are GOOD!! On the edges. The keep the gravel from washing out just mow them. If you put enough crown in your drive you really won’t need to stir the gravel as you are doing. All you are actually doing is contaminating the rock. Fabric is worth the time or $$$. You really get nothing out of it at all. It’s all about you crown height so the road bed doesn’t hold and water

coffeebuzz has the right idea -- you may also consider starting in the center of the driveway and working your way out to the side taking a small bite each time. The other thing I'd consider is doing away with those ripper blades you've got there and go to a straight point ripper like an old harrow (only beefier obviously). You may have to make those, don't know if they can be bought.

Hey Evan, Why don’t you make some new rippers out of some stainless 3/8ths plate use your torch to cut out the rough shape, but maybe make them straight down (not a 90 degree angle with a big shoe on the riding surface) use your mill to drop mounting holes in it and a half inch end mill to finish the job. That would make a great video to see as well. Just some thoughts on my end. What do you think?

Adjust the angle of the box so the ripper points can engage the surface. If you look at the video you can see that the rippers are skating upward. You want them to be ulled down into the gravel. You should only need an inch of engagement.
