10 Steps To A Perfect Stone Driveway! (She's The One Behind It All!)
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
We finally had a chance to work on the potholes and low spots in our stone driveway after a full season of neglect and I'll share with you the 10 easy steps I used to upkeep it. I used the John Deere 755 compact tractor, the John Deere 310SE backhoe, a John Deere 318 garden tractor with pull type grader box and my Ford F-750 dump truck to fix up our driveway.

The driveway looks fantastic and it makes all the difference in the look of your property. It's great to see the whole family out working on a project together. Giving your girls this kind of responsibility is one of the best things you can do for them as a parent. They won't be afraid of responsibility and work as adults and have much better lives because of it.
I’ve never seen a driveway that well kept….. freaking beautiful piece of art. Looks like concrete from drone
It really looks good. The girls made all the difference. When my daughter was your girls' age, she used to love helping me with outdoor chores, especially when she got to drive the tractor. My three granddaughters were the same way only they had to take turns driving. LOL
Gorgeous property and beautiful farm land. Looks like a great place to raise a family. It's a blessing to see families working together. Thanks for the content
Good for you involving the kiddos in all aspects of the work. It really builds confidence in their future abilities.
you guys have lots of pride in the way it looks .and it looks great.glad your teaching your girls what it takes to make it look like that

My ALL time favorite driveway and process to take care of it. Neil has the absolute best driveway probably global! I love it! This is the BEST process!

A good looking driveway is the same as a good looking lawn. We and people take pride in these!

Vary nice! What I learned from your driveway videos is that the area that needs more stone needs to be ruffed up before adding the stone. I do not have a gravel drive but I have seen people just add more stone all the time and be frustrated with the stone just coming out of the potholes. They had a small garden tractor so all they needed was the box scraper and the knowledge of how to do it.
Rewatched AGAIN! One of my favorite videos to watch period! Definitely the best driveway refresh I have seen ever. This is the best driveway in the USA!
Fun video. Glad to see the whole family involved. While I will never be that particular about my driveway, it shows many possibilities of techniques and materials.
I love that the girls are doing some of the work. You seem to be a good dad.

Don't let Neil make yo feel inferior. Most Hoosiers have driveways dotted with oil stains and old engine blocks, and new driveway gradually forms around the pot holes. I do admire his driveway though. A beautiful blend of art and OCD.

Why does everyone keep saying "OCD"? 😁 In reality, the reason that I grade my driveway so often is just to erase all the oil spots that form every week. It helps keep the dust down.

💥 That looks very nice! 😁👍 Love you got the whole family involved. *Keep on tractoring!*
I love the daughter's reaction after she drove the tractor up! The girls were awesome! Great result
Grading the lane is my happy time. I love love love watching it all come together and get all smooth and perfect. I have a grader box for my garden tractors too but it's a three point. I've always been interested in one like you have
Cara is so sweet! You could have a you tube channel just devoted to your driveway 😁. I like the "retro" clip of Cara (nice touch).
Hands down..that’s the neatest farm I’ve ever seen and all the best toys. The farm my brothers and I recently inherited has treasures from the last 100 years scattered all over. My Grandfather and father never threw anything away. I claimed the ox yoke my 20:04 At one point old wringer washers, even the first car the family owned from the 30s (bought in the 50s), anything that couldn’t be burned was dumped in a ravine at the wooded back of property. The first tractor, a Farmall from the 40s and all the acquired equipment are now scattered around our yards as yard art/museum pieces. The hog scalding/cane syrup making cast iron pot has a place of honor as one brother’s fire pit. Every time I post a comment regarding the farm I appreciate what a unique childhood I had. Of course I resented missing Spring Break at the beach because that was when tobacco had to be planted. Summers were spent hoeing peanuts, tobacco, corn..you name it. I was so glad when school started that I was a stellar student who never missed school! Sorry for the ramblings.

That's terrific! Thanks so much for sharing. I've never got to experience peanuts or tobacco farming. And it sounds like your farm is full of history in pieces that tell a story. Thanks so much for watching!
Looks great and I love how your whole family works to take pride in your home. I definitely need to work on my drive. Your information gave me some good insights on what to do differently. Thanks for the great video.
Your daughters are so helpful. Love the fact they can drive the John Deere front loader
Looks excellent! Nice to see folks that take pride in their property!
Awesome work family Koch love the fact you get the girls involved as much as possible my daughter is 3 and I already have her helping as much as possibly can she really enjoy it great work on driveway project I too try my best to keep a nice tidy property god bless
Great video! Now I am going out to fix my driveway from the floods from 2 weeks ago.... Luv ya's from Kentucky!!!
Probably the best driveway maintenance video EVER!
This is the best driveway in America! I love this content!
Love this video Neil and Kara! Like you, I also really enjoy a nice stone driveway! The weeds are a constant "problem"!
That looked like fun. I wonder why some people are afraid of WORK. I enjoy making my home look like a vacation spot, just like yours. Great video.
Holy cannoli. That's just incredible (that drone shot of the after...wow). I love watching you play with all the toys (real life) that I played with as a kid (just toys). I truly appreciate the fastidious attention to detail. And I especially appreciate your involving the kiddos. They are learning important lessons which will form their way of thinking for their entire lives. Well done!
I look at alot of videos BUT this far is the best Ive seen! Im watching it again. You sir have the best yard and driveway that i have ever seen!

Glad to see I’m not the only one who can’t stand crooked driveway edges. Well done !
That grader box on the small tractor is awesome.
Wow that is a ton of work and it would be nice go have all the equipment. I just hope I can find somone as Meticulous as you to fix my gravel drive. Excellent work! Beautiful!
Love seeing the kids out helping. Like your wife my Dad always gave me chores when he was gone. I do the same for my teenage boys now.
I find myself spending time with diminishing return on keeping crisp driveway edges. I agree that it makes the whole property look better. For the edge I usually use weed spray about 1x a month and that really helps a ton from it getting out of control. Nice Work!
Yayyyy not a firewood video! Lol. I enjoy it all, drive is magazine worthy! "Dig" the clean look!
I like it, and im trying to not be jealous. Lol its hard to keep it clean looking if or when you're constantly spill grain on it. Take care guys. I enjoy seeing you get the family involved
Great job. So nice to have all of the family involved. Love your passion and the fact that you are clearly a perfectionist.😊
Love that straight edge! Our driveway is asphalt millings that congeal with less loose material on top, but we are about to lengthen it by 150' with limestone. We would continue to use millings but they shot up in price and there's not any new road construction near the farm right now.
@digdrivediy

I would love to get a hold of some millings and use it on the driveway. We did that at the property of my previous employer and it was great after it all got packed in.
You all have a beautiful place love the driveway ❤
The girls and your wife did a fantastic job with your help the whole area looks really good the only thing missing is dirt bikes and track for the girls.
That turned out great! The crispy straight lines are awesome!
Another great video! All good things in life require regular maintenance.
I love how much of a perfectionist you are I feel the same way about many things
Neil, you guys nailed it! I don’t know how many times I’ve seen people just pour some gravel over a pothole and expect it to work. I have a neighbor with a crater about 6’ wide and 8” deep. He shoves the crater walls in a couple of times a year, then tosses on another layer of top stone. Instead of fixing the problem, he makes it worse. It used to be a 3’ pothole… now it is almost big enough to swallow his whole pickup! I’ve offered to dig it out and reset the foundation layer. But, he’s convinced that it will only and most assuredly make the problem worse. He also needs to build up the area to shed water… but thinks that will make the pothole deeper. I’ll send him a link to this video in the hope that it will give him a few ideas! My driveway is stone as well. The trees along the edge create quite an obstacle to maintenance. We plan a couple of changes for next year… I too will keep this in mind for reference in doing it right! Thanks to you and the ladies for giving me a vision of how good mine could look!

Those potholes can be a real nuisance! My dad is working on some over at the neighbor's house that have been reoccurring for years. Probably the hardest thing on this driveway right now has been the school bus and the off camber turn as he pulls into the driveway. I tried to minimize it so that the bus wouldn't rock as much as it did. Fingers crossed that it holds up, but you'll probably find out on here if it doesn't! I'm glad I don't have to deal with tree roots along the driveway, although I might trade up the ability to keep the edges straight for some nice wooded shade! I'm sure yours looks great though already. Thanks as always for tuning in sir!

Amazing and straight!! Nice work!
Wow… what a beautiful work! And this is forever, can be redone, recycled, it allows water to escape, it’s not expensive… a lot of pro’s!
Love the videos. Great ro see the family working together.
That is a mighty fine looking driveway !
if you ever get bored and want something todo in your spare time, you could be the grounds crew at a professional sports arena which such perfection. Looking good
Some people have a zen-garden. You guys have a zen-driveway.
Had the same backhoe mine was a 1997 310 se great machine. Beautiful job
I am envious and jealous at the same time! Kiddo’s for a great video and an excellent primer for what it takes to make a place look well kept and enjoyable for those who live there. You obviously take great pride in how your property looks. Ignore those who comment in the negative! I just found your videos about the pond build a few days ago, now I’m hooked! Stay well!
I don't want it to be so perfect but I love to see it at someone's else place.
Good for you and your beautiful family! Living the dream!!
What a beautiful spot you guys got. God bless
Beautiful family and beautiful & well-maintained property.

Love the video and great to see the kids out helping !:)
Great video, great technique great to see you getting the family involved. Especially like how you removed the dirt from the edges - that’s something I’m going to try next time.
Nice, well crafted video and project...I completely get it. Unlike many KZreadrs your property is beautifully maintained. We shared a ½ mile private gravel road with 10 home owners on 10 acre lots. I had a JD 2025R with a loader and a landscape rake.I am retired and would spend hours driving back and forth then just staring at it thinking what I would do differently the next time for improvements. We had lots of water in PA and the road was used heavily. Had to keep a crown on the road to avoid the formation of potholes. Most fun I had with that tractor...that and using the 3 point roto-tiller to plant things the deer would harvest before me. I watched this video after seeing Wes work on your RV...I subscribed to your channel.
Good job on the edging and pot hole repair and is proper way to do it Many ppl just try to grade the rocks back in to hard pack and can’t figure out why next rain storm the pot holes are back
looks great, you have mastered that compact
As you mention it looks like a lot of work, and it is but it’s the kinda work that when it’s all done, feng shui that eases your stress. Nice work!
Nice that “work” isn’t a four letter word for you and your family!
Nice work people. You homestead looks great. You can be proud.
This is the standard by which all driveways should be measured, that's for sure. I envy you topsoil depth. Maybe a video on how you maintain that lawn, it's the lawn of my dreams.
Absolutely tha BEST video! I love driveway work because of THIS video!
This was so satisfying to watch.
Just discovered your videos! Will you guys marry me, adopt me or something? I love this vid! My favorite part after all that machine work… is you on your hands and knees at the end of the drive, picking bigger stones out and smoothing with your hands. Some won’t get it but it resonates in my soul. Congratulations on a beautiful family, an absolutely gorgeous piece of land, and a wonderful display of parenting and teaching those precious kids. It’s quite clear after watching several videos, this isn’t new, it’s generational. So my gratitude to those who led you down this path of a lifetime of fulfillment. It frankly helps restore my faith that America is still ‘my America’ despite the widespread images that’s it’s something else.

Looks awesome Neil! We have a driveway here in Northern Idaho that’s about 3/4 of a mile long. I can get it looking great in the summer with a tractor and a TR3 rake but clearing snow in the winter I manage to push, scrape, and snow blow large amounts of gravel into the ditch and surrounding woods. The local gravel quarry and trucking company love me lol 😂 your driveway is definitely the standard for good looking driveways!

Yeah I cringe when it comes time to plow snow knowing what it might do to the stones beneath. I try to wait until we've got a few good snow packs on top and that usually helps mitigate the amount of damage I do. Thanks so much for tuning in Tom!
