Using a 470 ohm 1/2 watt resistor in-line to power a bypassed or secondary alternator from Brand X

This is a little Video showing how you connect the L terminal of the alternator to an ignition or ACC voltage / switched power source of your choice to turn on a secondary or PCM bypassed alternator from
Brand X Electrical.
I’m still pretty sick right now, but I wanted to get at least something out there since people seem to be having trouble understanding my other write-ups. Sorry for being a little hoarse.
You can get these 470 ohm 1/2 watt resistors from almost any Hobby shop, electronics shop, or even amazon. You can find them here : www.amazon.com/Projects-10EP5...
I am not affiliated with amazon in any way, just
Giving the easiest / fastest place to purchase that I’ve found.
They’re not expensive, but are very important to the connection / life of the regulator installed in the alternator.
You can always directly solder the wires vs these solder crimps as well, I just prefer to use them for the volume of them I build daily, and another layer of heat shrink over this.
Any other questions be sure to fire away in the comments! Always happy to help!

I have an assortment of 1/4 watt resistors. I would need to combine 2 1K ohm resistors in parallel to get the wattage up and would make it 500 ohms. Would 500 ohms at 1/2 watt be fine? Will the 30 ohms make a difference or is it close enough?

Thanks for the help and I seen someone else added two and it made almost 16 volts so I thought that was unbelievable at first and he showed what he did the other wires like the s going to battery u switched and the f wire bulb in dash with power from key going to it and the wire with the resistor that’s what I have did to my GM denso I have on a seperate charging and battery circuit for a stereo system it took a few Toyota wire diagrams and GM also dodge but I finaly got it to charge but do I need any of the other wires or can I just hook that yellow resistor wire to my key switch ? Thanks again

This video may be the answer to my problem with my H.O. alternator. I’m very new to this and have watched a ton of videos that went over my head and this one I get to an extent. However I’m not sure if it fits my scenario. If you can help me please let me know. So, I have a 2005 GMC Envoy 4.2 liter. I purchased a 370 amp alternator that was regulated to 14.8 volts from CES in Cleveland. It only worked for a day and then the battery went slowly down from 14.8 to 12.5 and under within a week. Drove out there and on the bench it worked. Didn’t though when I reinstalled it at home 200 miles away. Eventually I shipped it back to them and again they said it works. It must be an error on my part or the vehicle. I changed the belt to 1/2 inch and 1 inch shorter, changed the pulley tensioner, the alternator fuse, running 4/0 power and ground for the big 4…nothing. The plug has 4 colors: Yellow Blue Red Green. Blue goes directly to alternator positive stud. The rest go into the adapter that plugs into the OEM plug. I am not sure if a PCM from the vehicle is messing up the alternator, as it did work for a day or two initially. But I’m at a loss. Apologies for the long description, but if you or anyone out there reading this can describe or point me to a how to video to correct this I will be truly grateful!

That vehicle doesn’t need this done to it. Very likely the regulator just doesn’t work on your car properly. Check out our rectifier test video to make sure it isn’t shorted, than order a regulator and swap it yourself. Our regulators work for your vehicle perfectly!

Every alternator is different, but 1 will likely be a ground, another will be monitoring the voltage at the battery, to insure it does not over charge the system, and then 1 is typically the bigger wire that charges the system. Unsure what the other smaller wire would be used for. Hopefully that helps a little bit.

I have a AD244 145 amp alternator in a 1989 Chevy pickup. I am told the bulb on the dash is what add resistance to the circuit. The only thing is my battery light doesn't come on and then go away when I start the truck so I am thinking I need to check on that bulb. Also, I checked the brown exciter wire pin with key on and it was at around 9V. Does this mean I am not getting the correct resistance in the circuit? Possibly due to the bulb? Thank you!

  • @brandxelectrical

If you turn your key to acc and the light doesn’t come on decent chance something is wrong with the circuit, checking the bulb is usually the first step yes.
