In case 2 months later and new players are looking for QOL settings, there are some new settings added recently that let’s you see what class/role a character is without examining or see the character’s weapons. On top of that you can color the names according to roles when you are in a party. Also you can change your settings to allow you to see what role is talking in chat by changing the color of the names and put class/role icon infront of their names in chat. They are: [character configuration > display name settings > general] and character configuration > log window settings > name display settings. Hope this helps people who didn’t know this feature had been added.

For those who don't know, you can do a countdown by doing /cd 20 in ur chat window and it plays at 20 seconds. You can do /cd again to cancel it

@@rhael42 And I just posted a comment about how KBM players like me bind over the numpad defaults because they have no idea how Confirm can make their life easier! I think people like me who avoid controllers as much as possible have no idea that there are aspects of this game -- since it's designed for both PC and PS3-5 -- that are easier to access or manipulate from a controller perspective.
That toggleable hidden hotbar macro is a godsend. I had a duty specific HUD but this makes it so much less awkward to make things disappear! Now I can hide my shame, er, my job and emote icons at will ;__;
Thanks for the recast timer one. Really helps to see CDs coming
I also have a keybind for "Target closest enemy". More useful then you think it might be, as tab cycling in things like Frontline causes you to cycle through a bunch of targets that aren't in your range.

Did this as well, since I just recently tried out PvP stuff. At first I had it set to `/~, but quickly swapped positions with it and the TAB cycle because my fingers were just too used to using TAB for that sort of thing.

I'll never understand why that isn't the default setting for TAB. Cycling through enemies nowhere near me was never once useful to me in any setting.
Just stumbled across your videos, nice content! Even with 15k hours under my belt I still found something I wasn’t aware of. Thank you for highlighting the recast timer setting, that’s a godsend. Take my sub!
been playing for over a year now and this video was very helpful. thank you so much for posting it.
The log window zoom and focus target keybinds are gamechangers. I've had unused buttons on my keyboard, and now they do something useful. Thank you!
Man, oh man. I've been playing this game since ARR and I had no idea about 90% of these. You're a lifesaver! I especially found the auto-targeting and log window zoom useful, because I hate having to cycle through UI elements (on gamepad OR keyboard) just to select the chat window. I also found the setting to disable auto-chat thanks to you! :D
Well after 12 years playing, you taught me something.. Mouse sonar, amazing. I lost my cursor so much in the recent Orthos climbs and multiple other times, so ty for that. I will share your vid with my FC this will be useful to so many.
That expanding chatlog is great to keep track of my ERP sessions!
Your videos have helped me so much as a new player. I knew there was some magic to be done in the settings when i saw how many options there was
Just the first one has already helped me and its the only one I watched so far and already liked the video. Thank you sir.
You can also hold a keybind, I think X by default, to allow your mouse clicks to pass through players for patch drops! Lets you much more freely click on things when hella fellas are crowding! Great vid Jolsn!
I'm still using your hotbar setups from a previous video (months ago by now). Took some getting used to (and I still sometimes hit the wrong button off old muscle memory), but overall, such an improvement!

thanks for the hotbar macro suggestion!
Hey just wanted to say that i love your channel, its helping me a lot with my playthrou of FFXIV.
It is all great tips, i've been using a similar fuction like the ingame mouse sonar with the windows powertoys since i got a big screen so this is really usefull even outside the game.
The Pull Timer Action could be keybinded directly in the keybind option. It stores the last used value
Holy cow this is very helpful
Oh shit the chat zoom macro window thing is game changing THANK YOU
Thank you very much!
You're truly the king of FFXIV ergonomics. Thank you for the tips, as always
@Confirm Keybind I personally use Target Filters (X by default) to click on crowded npcs. It removes player nameplates and the ability to target them when held down, letting you click on any npc a beefy boy is on top of!
oh damn even i with my 8.5k hours found something new in this video . great work ♥

MAN! YOU'RE A GOD! Fished a sub with this AMAZING CONTENT!
Bruh I’m still pretty new to this game but really want to get into raids and stuff, your videos are a GODSEND. Keep up the great work buddy 👍
As a newbie tank it has always been difficult to figure out how other tanks were hitting the countdown and stuff like waymarks so easily when it takes me forever to open the menu manually. I put the waymark ABCD on my disappearing hotbar for when I need them along with the basic target markers. It probably isn't enough for proper raiding, but it helps. I'll definitely give your countdown macro a try too.
Great Video as always
Watched for 8 minutes and none of these really applied to me as a controller players on a 300inch projector EXCEPT that center recast. Holy shit that was worth every second.
Started off with a banger. That mouse finder is amazing. I just don't know what key i would bind it to 😂
Just had to wipe my compooper and reinstall FFXIV been spending alot of time in my settings and HUD so this should be helpfull thanks !
omg the mouse sonar thing is something i’ve been needing since the games launch. i find myself moving my mouse like crazy just trying to find the cursor during battle.
/cd is also a valid alias for countdowns. Hell, if you're a dab hand with the keyboard, skip the macro slot and just type /cd
There is one situation I can think of where you would not want auto-targeting and that is when everyone is waiting to start attacking an S-rank or A-rank mark, or when waiting for a countdown before starting a boss fight. If someone has auto-targeting toggled on and accidentally presses one of their attacking skills, it's an early pull and people are gonna be mad.

Deep dungeons. When you dot is killing the add before and you attack the next add with low life^^
There is actually a place where the auto-targetting can screw you up and it's in Deep Dungeons. Ennemies tends to be quite close to each other, you may not have much space to kite them sand you really don't want to aggro more that 1 on really high floors. So in this situation, I've messed up quite some times by using too many skills (on ranged dps) on an almost dead target and instantly aggroing the next one thanks to auto-targetting because my excess skills were already buffered. But in almost all other situations that I'm aware of, it's really comfy to have it active;
The Log Window Zoom function has always been something I thought only accessible for controller players, so this is a pleasant surprise.
for the countdown macro you can just easily drag the countdown button to the hotbar instead of making macro like we did back in ARR

/cd [number] works super fast too
I was unaware of most of these. The cursor ping is awesome; I lose my cursor all the time!
That auto target setting sounds very useful in pvp.
I encourage people who didn't try FFXIV with a controller to do, it supports it amazingly, you don't have those targeting and clicking issues
Log window zoom was actually on by default in Final Fantasy 11 and it was a godsend
Fun fact: those "big CD numbers" already were in the game back in ARR. But at one point they got replaced with small numbers and this "clock circle" thing that fills itself up. Neat video! I'm playing on console and almost all of these control issues are sort of circumvented with the controller. But it comes at the expense of almost never using the mouse cursor. It is possible, but very finicky to handle. I never realized that there are so many hurdles when using Mouse/Keyboard. I always thought I got the short end with my cross hotbar on controller :D

@@Jolsn The PS4 and PS5 controllers have this little touch-pad where you can use the mouse cursor with :D There even is a button-combination (I think L1 and R3) which switches to mouse-mode, then you can control the cursor with the sticks. That's also the only way how to perform a right-click, to change the size of NPC dialogue boxes lol ... there are so many button combinations on controller. After a while it gets second nature, but it's a steep hill

It's really weird, being a controller player, seeing keyboard players have to set keybinds for functions that are pre-built into controllers. I've been playing since 2019, using exclusively controller, and I'm actually kind of shocked that I'm seeing videos calling this an improved QOL when it's just...something I've been taking for granted all these years.
Invisible hot bars sound very useful. I'll have to find a way to adjust for console gaming.
2:20 - I've been holding X to clear all player character interactions so only NPCs and in-world items are interactable.
You can use example rogue or pugilist job as a macro hotbar. You can then call back to those via macro and they will reset to their original skills. This way you dont have to clutter any of your other presets. Desperius FFXIV has a good how to video about it

How do you get more macro icons?
One thing about auto-target that you really should mention, holmgang. With auto-target you are much less likely to have a mob die on you while you spam the button to no avail.
the auto target one has been great except in deep dungeons lol its killed me a few times on the late floors
i wish i could give this more than one like
I think I knew many of those things already, but I don't remember the hotkeys I set for them :D I will check when I get to the game later :D
I recommend making a more advanced macro setup that uses hotbar copying to use less of your hotbars for jobs etc. That's 3 hotbars you're losing that could just as easily be a single hotbar with copy macros to swap between them.
If you have a numpad on your keyboard a lot of these hotkeys are already bound (the numpad works as a virtual controller)
Some of those are less known to kbm players and more used by controller player. Like chat e focus. I also made a macro for sprint and cd print for sprint and bound one button (not hotbar) like V or right stick
Hold X to remove PC from being targeted. Simple way to click npc when there is a crowd. The auto target can be bad in rare cases. Deep Dungeons can lead to double pulling and possible wipe on high level floors. Just be cautious.
I just noticed what the last name of your character is. Bridge Four!
This video is basically me realizing I already set everything up, and just forgot to ever use it to the point I forgot even the option of such exists.
While I am glad the UI is as customizable as it is, it sometimes feels like the true final boss. Thanks for the tips
My man seems to be an Ul'dah enjoyer
There is a reason for me to turn auto target off: Deep dungeons. As a button smasher, can't count how many time I accidentally pull mobs I wouldn't want to pull.
I am new to the game, is there a way to use the camera movement in the game with the mouse without clicking left or right mouse button to make it move?
"/hotbar change #", or the keybinds you can set, is another really useful one for stacking your keys onto actions you don't use at the same time as a non-mmo-mouse player especially. It's like the hotbar cycling except it jumps directly to the number you specify. I personally like the macros because I can use the same button swap back and forth as needed, e.g. on bar you have "/hotbar change 2" and bar 2 "/hotbar change 2". It does "waste" some bar space, but the reduction in keybind bloat is definitely worth. Most jobs I use it to just swap between single target and aoe, so with DRK for example my combos are in in same place, and then quietus/bloodspiller, edge/flood, etc. share the same keys. For DRG, I swap between the full thrust and chaos thrust combos, like this: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZH9k0rmgqLq_f5c.html
Jolsn with your gshade video being outdated, will you do a refresh with reshade or so?

It's on my to-do list, I was waiting to see if there's any updates on that whole situation. Granted my old video on GShade is still relevant because it only really covered the shaders themselves which are still usable in Reshade
All of your key bind tips are also solved by using a controller. 😆😛You do need to know about the features and how to access them via controller though. I also thought confirm was numpad 0 by default, or have I had it setup for so long I forgot? 😅
i wish they could make combo skills on a single button, where you could choose what you put in the sequence. when you hit 90 theres already waaaay too many buttons to play most efficiently, and since the macros are gargabe in this game people says, i hope someone has told the dev team about this.

Lol PS4/5 Players do have disadvantages but so many of these settings/macros are part of the default settings for PS players. I really didn't know you guys didn't have access to the fullscreen chat window HAHAHAH
God i lose my cursor all the time. I'll have to check out that sonar
Does auto targeting activate for heals too? I play healer and I feel like auto target on dps spells would be okay, so I can be lazy and click less sometimes on boss fights. But then also I don't think I ever want auto targeting for heals - if I'm accidently targeting the boss I don't want to heal a random person
Welp, i'm a controller player so, a lot of this was "meh" for me. But, I did enjoy changing the recast timer on my macros from the bottom corner to the center of the macro icon. So, thanks for that.
Super grateful for auto-targeting now. Playing machinist and losing a second on overheat because i didnt realize the last trash mob died in the middle of me using the auto crossbow causes me so much grief.

as a Casual Raider who is currently in the Coil Raids (Sync'd) 16 seconds is too long... 10 second default is what I prefer... if things get hectic and I am tanking I move from 10 to 6 to Instant depending on how long we have left
@LazzyVamples

Ten seconds isn't long enough for a dancer's standard step to come off cooldown during the opener. For a dancer, you want a countdown of about 16 seconds so you can start standard step early and then hold standard finish until it's time to pull so you can open with it. Then it'll come off CD again just in time to squeak it in at the end of the opening burst window.
Whm here. What would be nice is if after casting my shields it would stop freaking deselecting the tank.....ffs you got a fox for that annoyance? I use controller layout btw
Something that goes hand-in-hand with the Confirm setting is being able to move your cursor. While this is simple with a controller, it's not so obvious if you play KBM. For a lot of things, spamming Confirm will work because the default action is what you want. If it isn't -- for example, if you need to move through your inventory, switch to a different element of a dialog, or move up or down a list of choices -- then there are a set of related commands you should keybind to something convenient. These are all under KEYBIND > SYSTEM: (1) Move Cursor up/Cycle up through Party List, (2) Move Cursor down/Cycle down through Party List, (3)Move Cursor/Target Cursor Left, (4) Move Cursor/Target Cursor Right, and (5) Cycle through UI Component Tabs (Forward). These all default to NUMPAD keys and if you're not aware of what can be done with Confirm then it's really easy to have overwritten the default keybinds when you were looking for an easy key to hit and didn't know what you were unbinding.
Why wasn't auto targeting a default?
Are you a Stormlight fan?

That's what I thought until I lost it repeatedly in savage raids, I used to play Starcraft 2 at a pretty high level and never had that issue, I think it's because you don't really have to track your mouse all the time unlike other games. Often you can just stand still and you're more focused on the hotbars than the location of your mouse. Not only that, but when you move your camera it also disappears. So I would actually say, if you're gonna lose your mouse in any game, it's probably an MMO like this
