Thanks Basil!! That's EXACTLY how I felt when I first went to view the car. Based on past experience, photos can really lie, esp the low res ones on Mudah, but in this instance they didn't!! Hahaha!! The car really did look as good, or even better, in real life 😀👍🏾

Aha yes, that signature air-cond fan / radiator fan sound. I remember that from my childhood when the rich parents would come to pick up their kids from school while I waited for the school bus 😂

I always catch the bus as a school kid but now I drive the illustrious the venerable C124 E220 coupe! Love the air con sound 🤩

this bro deserve a thousand likes. My father got one of these, uk version automatic with sunroof. the transmission is really smooth, blue interior (this beige interior looks more luxurious). this is one best ride, everytime i drive it, it makes you forget that its an old car.

So agree. Imagine my friend spent over 100k for a Sonata, apart from new design, my W124 still win over sunroof and hillstop assist. But mine only RM12k when I buy over. And it is a Mercedes Benz.

200k km and below is no sweat for this model. My dad's having this same model, same face lift upgrades and same color except it's an auto. It's got 500k km on it. Still purring so smoothly and the automatic still works like a charm.

I have 123 and a 124, I think the W123 was a solid tank that keeps going and last for ever and the W124 is more refine in terms of gadgets. For pure driving pleasure I prefer the W123, having said that both a marvellous cars

Hi Chris! Lovely W124 in manual transmission some more! 😍 I got myself a 1994 E280 masterpiece... just wondering before you replaced the coils to Eibach Pro Kit springs, how was the oem overall? You mentioning OEM Shocks + Eibach Pro Kit springs as the combo ever really intrigued me to go for this setup too... Can you give comments and a little review of the eibach springs and is it really worth it to change it? Can’t seem to find any on your channel.

Nice car, well done! For me the difference in comfort was negligible, still very comfy, but the car felt more stable in corners with the Eibach progressive springs, that's for sure, less wallow and body roll 😀👍🏾🙏🏽

Hi Chris, Just getting your advice, have put Eibach springs on Bilstein OEM shocks for comfort but now when I go over bumps, it has a knocking sound as Jason from M1 Performance (yep went there for full oils change and other stuff) mentioned that due to the OEM shocks longer travel time, it cannot react in time due to the lowered shocks, is this something normal? Or am I missing something. Btw this W124 and your W126 videos are my favourites as my family has had these cars since way back when, truly timeless masterpieces of engineering. Keep making awesome vids and would love your advice😊👍. Till then cheers!

Hey bud, hmm, I never had that issue with the E30 or this W124, it could be the spring is not sitting well on the baseplate or something. One easy and cheap fix would be to wrap the upper and lower parts of the springs with rubber hose as a buffer between the 2 parts, see if that works first before changing anything, good luck!!🙏🏽😊

Now that the cross state ban is lifted, feeling like a Genting run with my buddy Derrick in his amazing Toyota Corrolla😎

Beautiful car. I agree with you about planned obsolescence of newer cars. The new cars are meant to last about 10 years and then be scrapped. All of my 5 cars are old. Newest one I own is a 2002 Audi with almost 200k on it. I maintain them myself and only rarely do they go to a mechanic (transmissions only). I still consider anything built in the mid 2000's as a new car. I was taught to take care of stuff and not just trade it in every 3 years.

Thanks. It has the AMG sport package, and I had the secondary cats removed, installed an x-pipe, and removed the rear mufflers (only has primary cats and the middle resonator now) and had it tuned by OE Tuning. Runs good for heavy car. Also tinted the windows limo black and removed the S550 from the back so no one really knows what kind of big Mercedes it is.

The 230E is the one to go for.. With just the nice power to match. The 220E that came after as a facelift Masterpiece is a little underpowered while the 260E and 280E simply has the extra power you may never need. Unless you are on the track.

Absolutely right, it strikes a nice balance between being a comfortable cruiser to a highway bruiser, with just the right amount of power. An added bonus of course is the annual road tax, which is a lot less than its bigger engine'd stable mates 😁

The e220 / 220e introduced variable valve timing and actually has more power and torque than the 230e (and is more efficient)… but I definitely agree with the sentiment.

Loved this review. The best looking benz till date. The new ones can't come close. Can you do more videos on specialists and workshops who works on older cars. The sort of technology upgrades we can do to it to keep it usable this day and age? I enjoyed my ownership experience if a w124 230e uk spec during 2010 till 2012 until i totalled it in a crash in Tanjong Malim. The car saved my life that day. I'd love to buy another one someday.

i've experienced this car when i was a kid when my dad has it, it was auto, and the gear stick is wooden finish and it has mercedes emblem on the top of the gear stick. the only gets me triggered is the RIMS! if restore to it's original, it would be a masterpiece!

There should be a sticker that says "Gentlemen drives 4 pedals" *Seriously this is the first time i heard of this kind of Reverse gear (manual). It's usually comes as dogleg. So if you fail to pull up, does it goes 2nd or sth else?

Yes it does go into 2nd, and the car has enough torque to move off in 2nd easily, so I have to be careful. Now the tricky part is hill starts, no handbrake per se, so I have to pull a lever to release the footbrake just as I move off, still getting used to it 😉

@@itsgerardchin yeah, I try as much as possible not to ride/balance the clutch too much on hill starts/slopes, not too good for its longevity 😊

These actually did very well in crash tests, even compared to some newer cars.

This is the best tonic for the haze. The seats, the gear shifting like a dream, what a steal, Chris. Just enjoyed seeing your enjoyment. Haha. Speaking of classics, I am thinking of getting or rather rescuing it and turning it electric or PHEV. Do you know of any mechanics in KL which do this? I cant seem to find any. We dont need any reminder with the haze that climate change, toxic air is a problem. I'm not sure how car enthusiasts and petrol heads will like the idea, but we need to find a balance between keeping classics alive and being 'green'. So I'm really keen on this.

Yes! I agree and I did consider it bro, BUT, I already have a big cc old Merc (the W126) and I JUST managed to get classic status for it, so honestly, I didn't wanna start paying ridiculous annual road tax again for a 280E. This 230E road tax is still liveable, rm671 a year 😉

@@hazizilamsin well that is not true, only 300 and 300-24 models have 3.0L petrol engines and also Masterpiece editions are only made in 1995 with additional specs such as electric seats, rear sunshade, walnut wood trim and stuff like that

Great buy for the price! Heck, even if its double the price, the interior makes up for it! Proof that its had a good life. Congrats! As for culling your car buying habits, prolly getting a 'small' car from the same county as Mercedes Benz would help. Slippery slope though....😁😁

Great buy and rare find in a manual, I have a 94 E320 Coupe I wish was a manual, the W124 are rock solid made far better than my 07 E350 W211, watch the heat in summer on the w124 mine gets hot here in Australia they should sit in the 85-100 range.

These are superb cars. I’ve never seen a W124 without a sunroof which is interesting. I have a 1990 W124 260E, and previously had a 1991 C124 300CE. These cars were the definition of ‘The Best Or Nothing’.

@@ChrisWeevilGarage are the rims original items or not? doesn't matter really..Goes to show that eibach really means business..Another crazy idea for you.I know your banker going to be ballistic but how about a E34 525i or 535i perhaps.The 520i do comes in manual but really they're under powered even in 24 valve form.E34 is one of my favourite model apart from E39.To be honest what you have in your garage now are my personal favourites.
