Every time I think that’s perfect, you change it up and make it even better! You added so many foundational principals in the video embedded throughout. Thank you! I really need to get back to pastel painting again I’ve only tried it a little bit and really liked it. I got too busy to keep it up.
You've captured plenty of drama in the sky & behind the trees, this is the 'Golden hour' with beautiful warm colours. When I'm painting or watching someone else paint I'll half close my eyes it helps to simplify the values you see in the scene/painting ❤

What an amazing sunset! It's the most colourful time of the day. I have painted a lots of sunsets. I renewed my painting after depression break. Mostly loose flowers in watercolour and acrilic. While I was watching your video I memorized how I painted with soft pastel laying in the bed when I could only lay because of vertebra fracture. All my bed linen were dirty with soft pastel powder. 😄

I love these acrylic underpainting! How do the intense blocks differ to acrylic?
@monetcafe
6 ай бұрын
I like that I can apply the Inktense blocks dry and then just add water. I also find there a little thinner once they’re dry and don’t take up as much of the tooth of whatever surface I’m working on. I typically thinned down acrylics when I use them as an underpainting, but they still take up a little bit more of the tooth than the Inktense Blocks.
Очень интересное видео много иформации, есть большое желание маленькими шагами учиться у вас Сьюзен, любить пастель❤

Sure thing! I love pansies!
I noticed the clouds and light in the sky are diagonal rather than horizontal as in the reference. Could you address how you made that choice? It looks great and I am interested in why you made the diagonal sky.
@monetcafe
7 ай бұрын
That’s a good observation, I often like to have energy and drama in my compositions. I felt like horizontal clouds would be a bit boring. I love elements that offer perspective and reaching the clouds up this way, allowed the viewer to be drawn in.
Could you paint oils instead of pastel over the underpainting. Or maybe just acrylic
@monetcafe
7 ай бұрын
I think you could absolutely do that. There shouldn't be a problem with oils over acrylic ink.
Great tips! Beautiful art! So silly that #Prismacolor #NuPastels discontinued selling individual colors….opting for sets only. That shows you the regard they have for their customers who love their products, love NuPastels, but don’t like how their corporate marketing decisions aren’t considering the needs of their artist customers. Who’s gonna buy a whole set for one or two colors? 🤨

The final work has the trees more silhouetted and earlier you had green highlights on the trees. At that point the time of the sunset was earlier than the reference. The final work the tress were more silhouetted as in the reference. Were the highlighted trees a step in what you planned or did you decide to darken the trees to make it a later evening sunset as in the reference?
@monetcafe
7 ай бұрын
Because the surface was white, the painting was actually too late for quite a bit of time while I was painting. I decided to darken the sky significantly to match the rest of the image. I was trying to establish a darker mood.
Beautiful! I am learning so much from you. Thank you. Do you have a tutorial for the painting that comes up at the very end of the video, with the purple flowers in the field?

Hi @embush222, I never spray a fixative on a soft pastel painting since it always darkens the final image. To protect my final painting for shipping or storing, I place them in a clear plastic bag I get from www.clearbags.com/bags/flat/flap-tape/crystal-clear. I buy the bags a bit larger than standard sizes so I will have room for the painting and a piece of foamcore board cut to the size of the painting. Here is a video of my process:kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zox4lrWeqqnfcso.html&t=209s

Thanks so much, and no, the Sanded Texture does not come off when you add water. Of course, you do have to check to make sure the Sanded Pastel paper is water friendly, which this one is.
