Usain Bolt, Tyson Gay, Asafa Powell, Yohan Blake, Ryan Bailey, Justin Gatlin and Dwain Chambers all win their 1st heats to progress in the 100m event at the London 2012 Olympic Games (4 August).
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

We won't see another athlete like Bolt for a long time. Just look at the way he can decide for himself how fast he wants to run and still win at the OLYMPIC GAMES. The way he watches across at the other athletes, man that must be so disheartening for them! Absolutely no shame in losing to Bolt....he's just something else. So talented and he's clean! Sprinting is being held up by Bolt and Blake at the moment, if they were to dope sprinting would collapse in credibility pretty much 100%.

***** I think you are missing my point. Bolt is a super freak of nature on the track as well as an unparallelled showman. But is an even more massive personality personality off the track as well. No sprinter in history has ever had this combination working for them & that is why endorsers line up to get his signature.

Marcus Reese Will the Canadian DeGrasse have the charisma, the showmanship, the flamboyance - plus win three gold medals setting three world records? If no he won't carry T&F like Mr. Bolt does - and another Bolt is going to be hard to find. He is unparalleled.
2012 in my opinion was the best olmpics every it was stacked with legends in every event male or female😊
Read this and get a perspective of how fast Bolt is. Lets get our heads around this A committed amateur athlete will likely be alot faster than a normal person.. A top end professional athlete (NFL/Rugby ect will likely be alot faster than them..^ A talented amateur sprinter will smoke these guys ^ A top 10 sprinter will glide past these guys ^ A top 5 guy (Gatlin, Blake, Gay, Powell ect) will make them look average ^ Usain Bolt can get to the OLYMPICS and literally cruise the second half of races and win easy when dudes are using every fiber of their being to sprint. Then run hard for 90m in a final and make the elite guys look sluggish. Super freak.

I see what you mean but its strategical. If you remember, Ryan Bailey run 100% in the heats but run slower in the finals cos he used up all his energy. In the finals. Bolt did run almost 100 percent like everyone else cos its more intense. Besides as a runner, everyone is different and at different levels. Of course if it was me, there is no way that I will slow down cos I'm not an exceptional athlete like Blake, Bolt, Tyson or the like.
