USAF Combat Control Training, Pipeline and Overcoming Fear with Special Guest, CCT Renaldo Miller

This week, the Ones Ready team continues to bring insight, experience, and inputs from all over the AFSPECWAR world. We sit down with United States Air Force Combat Controller, SMSgt Renaldo Miller and talk about his experience in the pipeline, his Combat Control training afterward, his time in the pool, how he feels about cross trainees, and of course- the one piece of advice he thinks you all should hear.
Pay special attention to the Overcoming Fear section. This week, drop an answer in the comments to the following question-
After hearing how SMSgt Miller deals with his anxiety over military jump operations and the real side to all the "cool guy" jump days that you see on the Gram, do you think you'll have an aspect of the job that you might not enjoy? Which one would it be?
Chapter Markers-

CCTs were really the "first there "their motto, as they were with the CIA to show what kind of power they wielded and the Afghans would shake to there bone when the laser finder was pointed at them as they watched the CCTs and the USAF bring the rain destroying target after target as they laid down more death than anyone in that war for years...in Iraq(it might be online) a CCT calls in an airstrike at the beginning of the Iraq war as a bunch of Iraq Army are leaving a building ..maybe 40-50..the bomb drops and the COMMS are clear and all you hear is somebody say "duuude" in a California accent lmao

One of the reasons the CCT Pipeline is two or so years long is because. Once deployed you will most likely be operating without any other Controllers on the Team you’re attached to. So all you can rely on is what’s in your Ruck Sack, and Brain Housing Group.

I wish I was cool enough for CCT! I'm USAF vet. Just a mechanic. Always looked up to and revered the berets. I can't swim though and am terrified of water haha. Hence one big reason why I joined AF haha...only branch with no swimming requirements. (at least for BIG AF). I just ordered a few books "CCT", "Danger Close" (about TACP/JTAC), and a few others about CCT. Finished "Alone at Dawn" recently and reading "Guardian Angel" by Bill Sine about PJ's. Hey I have a question if anyone is able to answer. How much rucking do you do in any of the AFSW pipelines? Is it Army/Marines level rucking where you do it so often it really wears on your back and knees only after a 4 or 4 year active duty enlistment term? Every Army/Marines person I’ve met and talked to (that did Infantry or even Mechanic) has told me they are constantly suffering in their lower back and knees (even tho they were active for “only” 3-4 years), can the same be said in AFSW pipelines? (I also say “only” when it comparison with those who stay in for 10+ years, im not currently military and have lots of respect for anyone serving right now). Thank you very much if anyone can answer this.

What is it? You put a pack on your back, and start walking. Rucking is like backpacking, except you don't pitch a tent at the end of the walk. You're walking either for the sake of exercise or to meet a certain standard. For example, in Ranger School, you're required to ruck twelve miles in under three hours while carrying 47 pounds (a 35 pound ruck plus 12 pounds of water). I'm pretty sure this doesn't include the weight of the M4 rifle that you also have to carry. This is VERY ADVANCED rucking--something to set as a distant goal, definitely not something to start with. 16.8% of Ranger School students failed at this. You definitely should not go crazy with the weight, nor should you ruck more than two or three times per week. This is a serious exercise. If you Google "rucking," you'll actually find a lot of information. If I were you, I would also listen to what Rangers and Special Forces guys have to say about rucking--they've certainly done a lot of it.

Then don’t make it about race, it should be absolutely, on merit alone. Any colour shouldn’t ever come into the equation. .

Read up. CCTs work with 100% of SOCOM units, when they need air support and logistics.

A tier 1 CCT will work with delta and Dev. Rob O’Neil has a picture on his Instagram where he’s with a CCT on deployment.
