My favorite thing about the Chinese wasabi Lay's is that they're called "囧芥末,“ which you could translate to "WTF wasabi."
Finally a country which has a lot of flavors and options to get spoiled by choices, pushing even US to the second place!!😮😋

Wtf. Most US shops and supermarkets have VERY FEW flavor choices for chips and creme cookies. The widest variety is always in Japan, then China and South Korea, then some countries in Southeast Asia. In the case of carbonated soft drinks, US shops have a lot of brands but they're mostly the same few flavors. There are some shops which will have a wide variety of energy drink flavors though.
I could watch the Chinese fella talk for days without getting bored, he truly has become one of my favourite hosts of this show
Joe absolutely gliding through this video as a supporting character here 😅. Tianran is absolutely awesome as a host on here, i really hope we see lots more of him! Id love to see him versus UK as hes obviously well accustomed to UK foods.

Well we have see the American catalog of Lays before on this Chanel so it’s best to focus on the Chinese
Ok I've had some of the Chinese chips from Asian supermarkets and they really nail the seafood ones. Kinda sad he didn't go over the garlic oysters because it was such a bizarre experience eating what was simultaneously the most oyster tasting non-oyster thing I've ever tried but with the complete opposite texture of an oyster. Did have a slight chemically aftertaste, but remarkably accurate flavor. Same with the crab. Agree the spicy and numbing hot pot was pretty disappointing, and italian meatball seems confused because it's so sweet. I really need to try the cucumber ones, wonder what the difference in taste between the cucumber one and the pickle ones. But also omg there's so many different Chinese flavors I didn't know existed and I wanna try them so bad.

Literally everything that I have had that's been made in East Asia that claimed to taste like seafood, literally tasted like seafood. I think the most bizarre experience though was I recently got these Chinese Lay's that are cucumber flavor. I took a first bite and it tasted like I had just bit into a real cucumber sans the water content. I have absolutely no idea how they do it, especially because I've had chips from other countries and they often didn't taste of what they said they did. Except one Romanian Lay's - shawarma. The chips tasted legit like every shawarma I've had.

Part of the training for pairing potato chip with cucumber may have to do with Chinese notions of pairing ying (cool) and yang (hot as in energetic, not necessarily spicy). Fried food is yang food and cucumber is ying food.

Opening chips that way makes a lot of sense for most countries. Here in the US, for most people, if you're buying chips, you're buying a large bag. So you need to roll it down to keep it fresh for next time.
@freechilli8755

I think it depends on the bag. I noticed that some brands don't have the serrated top and are easier to pull open. The ones with the serrated edge are easier to tear but not pull open.

have been waiting for this episode for so long, my personal fav chinese lay's chips flavor is cucumber and everytime i tell this to my friends here i get curious (but also confused with disbelief) looks ahahaa, its so cute! It's kind of like me trying salt and vinegar and them trying like unique chinese flavors. its so cute! I love bothhhh, and I lOVE LOVE LOVE cheese onion here in the Netherlands!
One of my favorites videos yet!
Damn, China is killing it with these flavors, ours are so boring.
When I was a kid we had a vaguely local crisp company come into my school to test flavours, which included orangeade and strawberry (this was the 90s, it was a strange time) and I remember hating the strawberry but quite liking the orangeade.
I wanna try the Chinese Cucumber Lay's right now.

When I lived in China, the cucumber flavor was my go-to choice. It's so weirdly good 😄
" It tastes like a _wet forest_ " ... well then, sounds like most of my experiences with button/cremini/portabella mushrooms that have not had the earthy flavour cooked out of them. Definitely a hard pass for me on those truffle chips. All the seafood-flavored ones sounded marvelous, though! We have the 5'-flavor nucleotide disodium here in many savory snacks, too -- it's just listed as disodium guanylate and disodium inosinate instead. They team up with MSG to multiply its effect, so less MSG can be used to provide the same taste boost.
These Insider Food episodes are great! 👏😄
Love this series🎉
I've tried the chicken tomato Lays, they definitely nailed the real taste of a tomato. So much that it's all you taste so if you're into biting into a crunchy tomato you're in luck.

When's the new Food Tours series? Not that I'm not enjoying this new country, but I'm just so excited for more Food Tours.
Hmm, I guess the Coca Cola Chicken Wings (可乐鸡翅) flavor I found in Dandong in 2016 was a seasonal flavor. I was hoping Joe would feature the worst "winner" of the Do Us A Flavor contest that caused Lay's to stop the contest: Cappuccino, but I guess it's no longer available
I have to disagree w/ Joe about the low sodium Lay’s. While they may seem ‘odd’ at first, they ended up tasting more potato-ey to me and regular ones seem too salty to me now. I wouldn’t throw someone out of bed for eating regular ones, though. ;-) And Ruffles are also Lay’s, so Wavy aren’t really competing, but just a wider ruffle style.
Actually you can also find lime flavoured Lays in China. It has light blue coloured packaging and has a similar but better taste than the cucumber flavoured one.
"This French onion dip is DRUUUGS". Classic haha
So American of Joe to not know who Leo Messi is 😂
"I need Lays dips for this video" "OK, have the jar with the wonkiest applied label we've got"
The Sweet southern heat bbq looks so good Joe! 😍
ive tried the avocado and mustard lays stax and i must say they taste almost like a mild soy sauce, it doesnt really taste like avocado but has a hint of mustard without the tang, its just very savoury and I liked it, dunno why he reacted so negatively

“10…11…I’m running out of big chips” 😂
In Chile we have a 500g (1.1 Lbs) pack of lays, and also 3L (101Oz) soda bottles.
Italian red meat is there from the very beginning and is my absolute favorite. Still remember the first time when I was in US I assumed the blue bag of lays to be Italian red meat, but it turns out to be salt and vinegar
with how many chinese chips variations there are it would be cool to have a party where you have everyone bring one bag. and just mix them all together. roulette chips
Could easily watch an hour of Tianran describing all the different hot pots...
Wow. Both China, japan and US have awesome sounding lays (UK walkers). We have prawn cocktail, ready salted, salt & vinegar and cheese & onion. We also have walkers varieties like quavers, wotsits, monster munch, Walkers Max, squares, discos and sticks. Recently they brought out walkers versions of the flavours doritos, monster munch pickled onion and wotsits. Walkers also have weird savoury ones like roast chicken, steak and one other one lol. These are just the walkers (lays). UK have a plethora of crisps (chips) options like Mcoys, sensations, kettle, pops, pub favourites bacon fries & lime scampi, pringles (and alternatives like curves). So much more lol xx

joe not knowing who messi is is the most American thing I've seen
The best flavor of Lays in China is cucumber flavor. So good!
i can handle my spice pretty well but i will not take tomato hotpot slander it's absolutely delicious and i think instead of "red soup/white soup" yuanyang pots we should just have "spicy/tomato" double red pots
In the UK, Lays are called Walkers, which is a much more sensible and better name than ... Lays. "Lays" would never work in the UK, which is probably why they haven't been rebranded.

Joe not knowing who Messi is, is the most american thing ever
the way Tianran says "not" for zero with the perfect brit accent... is he looking for someone to share his chips with asking for a friend
Living in Germany I am so envious of the American and Chinese variety in flavors. All they have here is salt and paprika. Every other flavor they offer is either something questionable or it just doesn't taste like what it's supposed to taste.
I had chocolate covered chips from Indonesia- picked up in a Shenzhen supermarket. Nice, but strange. Also had Cola flavour crisps.
