US and Filipino troops fired missiles and artillery at an imaginary "invasion" force during war games on the Philippines' northern coast on May 6. About 200 soldiers took turns defending the shores of the coastal city of Laoag launching Javelin missiles, and firing howitzers and machine guns to repel their “enemy.” The annual drills, dubbed Balikatan, involved about 16,000 Filipino and American troops. If none then you should read more books and newspapers, watch news from different sources not just one, and maybe you should read the ruling of the 2016 Court of Arbitration because it stated there the invalidation of the claims of China, so that you can be properly informed. This is not about the US whether or not they will help the Philippines, this is about protecting our country's sovereignty and showing to China that we have the rightful jurisdiction over the West Philippine Sea and we Filipinos will not be deterred with their bullying.

But the thief says he does not recognize the court's ruling and he would bombard you with water cannons everytime you pass by the living room. Worse, he would also drive away your kids and wife if they want to watch the TV or lie on the couch(i. China drives away Filipino fishermen). This thief also destroys your property (i.e. China destroys all corals and marine life). Your neighbor is well built and muscular, while you are thin and kinda average built. You are also afraid. Everytime your neighbor thief kicks out your family out of the living room, you are scared to do anything and couldn't protect them. Your best friend, named America, says he would help you, but only if the thief draws his gun or or uses any weapon/firearm to harm you or your family. Water cannons and lasers do not count. So the big question is: you, as a MAN, what are you going to do???? How will you drive your neighbor away? Should you fight back everytime he fires water cannons at you and your family? or just cry and endure the abuse?

If you want to start the history of ancestral claim nobody in the world owns any land. Even America originally belongs to Aboriginal American that had been living there for 15,000 years before the English colonists came to the land in in 1620. What about Australia? Seriously? You are that ignorant? 60 to 70 percent of world trade goes through the west Philippine sea. US, JAPAN, France, Australia, Germany, all of South East Asian countries, the Uk, South Korea, INDIA, etc2x understands that if CHINA will try to control that sea by claiming that it is their’s then there would not be any “free flow” of trade in the world. China will then sooner or later control this sea and regulate everything. That is directly against the policy of having free trade in the high seas. Also, in 2016, The Hague already ruled in favor of the Philippines when it filed an arbitration case against the intrusion of China in the west Philippine sea. On the basis of the UNCLOS whom China and the Philippines are both signatories of. If China will not mind or honor the same, it will cause chaos around the world. It will render the UNCLOS useless. Following china’s lead and example, Countries will start disrespecting the UNCLOS. the US and like minded countries are obviously there to ensure that China will respect the UNCLOS. FuRTHER, the commitment of the US to the Philippines in their mutual defense treaty is Iron Clad when it benefits the USA. In this case, if they allow China to take over the west Philippine sea, China will be able to take control of the 60 to 70% of the trade in the world, meaning that China will be able to easily surpass the USA as the number 1 superpower / richest nation. The USA does not want that. Hence, it is now capitalizing on its mutual defense treaty with the Philippines and claiming that it is iron clad.
Its all about quantity vs quality....china should respect the international law and should stop the bullying tactics inside the EEZ of the Philippines...

Am wondering why the Philippine gov't does not make good its sovereignty over the WPS. Give China first, that it is intruding into Philippine EEZ and territory. Second, nullify their claim of a gentleman's agreement. Because, if China really owns the territory, why do they still need to come up with an agreement. Thirdly, give China an ultimatum to vacate the WPS. (This need to be coordinated with the US forces, as a back up.) If this is not done, China will just continue to play their card. The Philippines should understand by now that diplomacy and negotiations will never work with the Chinese
