Yeah, I'll put my money on the CG-47 any day of the week.

I'd place my money on the world's top Navy and the second largest airfleet. The US wouldn't go 1v1 unless something went critically wrong. By the time missiles are firing jets would be in the air and subs would be hunting from the US battle groups. Russia on the other hand does not have a large base of operations, issues with corruption, ammo shortages, and various other issues that hamper the comparison.

We forgot to compare their onboard fire suppression systems

DDG and CG definition is pretty skewed in modern time depending on each country Navy laws and time built. Ticonderoga-class have less displacement than both the Sejong the Great and Type-55, even though the two aftermention is DDG.

A better analysis, would be a Ticonderoga v Type 055!

One is 40 years old and heading for retirement and the other is a new design. Somewhat skewed as well. Not sure what would happen in the next few years, would the US retire the CGs without a replacement?

So your not gonna mention the Slava that sunk. Just because it has a system onboard does not mean that the crew can use it effectively.

​@@Grid88 it was attacked by coastal defense AShMs, that's not asymmetrical. The USS Mason was attacked several times by such missiles which were suspected of being of Chinese origin. In the 3rd attack within a week, it had to fend off a salvo of 5 missiles.

As much as you consider what the Ukrainians/NATO said to be true, what the Russians say can also be true! When the American ship was burning, we did not take the statement of the Russians as correct, but we took the statement of the owner of the ship, the Americans, as correct... well, then in this case too, I will take the statement of the owner of the ship, the Russians, as official and correct! most russian crusiers are completly worn out. i read that on moskova at the time of its sinking that only one cwis worked out of six and only half of the rest of its weapons worked, the eletronics was just such in bad shape that it could not use its radar or fire any missiles it had while using communications. and out of all its different radar systems only one was left working.

Aegis is an integrated rader, and battle management software suite. It cannot destroy satellites or anything else. It purpose is for detecting and tracking hostiles contacts, and assigning weapons solutions for destruction automatically. It MK 48 torpedoes, ASROC missiles, SM-2, SM-6, SM-3 missles, plus harpoons anti-ship missiles and the two five inch guns, phalanx 20 mm CIWS, are its main weapons

Not Russian but Soviet. When all republics was involved in project. Moskva is now sunk down by just two missiles. So nothing to compare. One last Slava cruiser is piece of scrap…

Well the Slava cruiser Moskva couldn't defend itself very well. Maybe the guys at the controls had too much vodka in their systems to use that superior technology effectively.

Hardly a premier surface ship of the navy most unlike what the moskva and other slava class cruisers were supposed to be, nini versions of the Russian battlecruiser. Not a comparison at all buddy

I used to do R&D for the military. In easy to understand terms it was my job to understand the full capabilities of of our technology what it can and cannot do. The other big part of my job was to do the same with other nations. When looking at foreign nations likely to be direct adversaries I specialized in Russia, China and North Korea. The Ticonderoga class guided missile cruiser is insanely well armed with scarily capabilities when speaking about anti air defenses. While it is unlikely to take the same level of punishment that the Slava can the Slava would be highly unlikely even with multiple ships backing it up to take out even one Ticonderoga and in a 1v1 situation would stand as close to zero chance at even surviving in any sense of the word let alone winning the engagement as is possible for a military engagement. Keep in mind sometimes odd things happen in war. The side that shouldn't in any sense survive somehow survives or even wins. But in this case there is as close to a guarantee as possible that the Ticonderoga would win a conventional engagement.

The US practices with GQM-163 Coyote, compare that to P-700, P-800, P-1000, YJ-18, Brahmos or any other AShM you want. SM-2 and SM-6 shouldn't have too much trouble against these. Hell, even the YJ-21, DF-21D and DF-26B are at risk during certain parts of their flight, midphase for example. Terminal engagement is where it gets complicated. SM-6 has ABM capabilities up to IRBMs in terminal phase, but after that there's no other defensive layer. A HGV is different from a ballistic missile, even one with a MaRV

Yeah the US Navy would probably switch towards Frigate/Destroyer type of Navy except the Frigates will be as big as destroyers of today and the DDG(X) will be even larger than a cruiser. Maybe closer to the Zumwalt but slightly smaller

I was in navy on uss vella gulf cg 72 ...that Slava doesn't have enough firepower or maneuverability! Cg was built to destroy multiple ships and aircraft at one time....and that's just 1 of 22 that doesn't even include ddgs !!! Yeah ...and uhh 1 of them got turned into a sea floor ornament !! Next !

The Slava class does not haave better range. The Tico is 6000nmi at 20 knots while the Slava is 6500nmi at 18 knots. It has 3300nmi aat 30 knots while the Slava has only 2500nmi at 30. So the Tico has better range. And as we know the Russians Tico has a lot and I mean a lot better reliability than the Slava

You forgot to mention the price of these cruiser

U.S focuses on quantity while Russia focuses on quality.

You're kidding right? Russia's one aircraft carrier has been docked for repairs for 4 years and keeps catching fire while docked. The Moskva couldn't defend itself against 2 Ukrainian neptune missiles.

Once again, quantity has a quality all it's own.

Well this comes down to who can overwhelm the others defenses. The Slava can fire 16 missiles which can be taken out with SM-2/SM-3. That takes care of all its long range weapons. The Tico has 8 Harpoon missiles which can be taken out by S-300. If the Tico was pre 1994 and the TASM was still available I would give it to the Tico, using 1/2 load of SM-2 (61) could quadruple tap any inbound anti ship missiles, and launch 61 TASM and 8 Harpoon. That would more than likely overload the Slava's air defense. Modern day the Tico only has 8 Harpoons for anti ship which would probably not do the trick. They would eventually both have to come into gun range where the Slava has it. Yes I know the Tico can fire SM-2 and SM-3 at surface targets, just not sure how effective they would be against something like a Slava class.

Pretty sure the Ticos can equip LRASMs in their VLS, which have much better range, targeting system, maneuverability and stealth features. And they should be able to carry the new SM-6 with vastly improved capabilities over the SM-2. I doubt the SM-3 would be used, its meant for interception of ballistic missiles in their exo atmospheric phase, not cruise missiles.

At around 7:00 you stated the Slava class is “more resistant to enemy fire “. Hmmm 🤔 Really? You forgot what you stated that the Ticonderoga class is also armed with offensive weapons - the Tomahawk, which has a greater range than the Russian missile, and the Harpoon anti ship missile. With the Aegis combat system, the Ticonderoga class is clearly the superior cruiser.

you dont understand that the tomahawks are extremely slow missiles hence easy to destroy? harpoons range is so fucking low and speed is low as welll... why do u think US navy made a ASUW dedicated missile (AGM-158C LRASM) sandbox are clearly superior missiles, not against LRASM but for sure the harpoons and tomahawks.

I never, *ever* comment on these typ3s of Video *BUT* the Tico has the lead, by miles. Literally & figuratively, Data-Link with the Aegis & sheer volume of CIA satellites (if the dedicated few were taken out by S-500 first) counter balances the offensive capability or Slava. Easy US victory, imho.

Those Slava-Class Cruisers have very potent weapons....but if YOU shoot first...THEY die. I think of the sinking of the Moskva...not a ship-to-ship action but they couldn't even "protect" it in their own Home Waters. Yes, the Russian have some data link capabilities but nothing as integrated and well-tested by highly trained Crews as the Sensor and Data Link systems in use by the US Navy. Remember the US Navy deploys multiple Carrier Battle Groups simultaneously, globally... and has been doing it since the end of WWII. Real-time, detailed and accurate Intel linked with on-board Sensor Data is the reason the F-35 does not have to do MACH 2 to defeat the best (any) Russian and Chinese "stealth" fighters. The F-35 has the ability to remain unseen longer while seeing further + superior weapon systems range. Shoot first, WIN.

Atlant class cruisers have no prospects and will be in service for at most another decade until enough 22350 frigates enter service or until 22350m frigates start entering the fleet. Two cruisers of this class have been retrofitted, just enough to last another decade while the oldest cruiser of this class was scheduled to be scrapped this year, but a crew error that caused a fire sent that cruiser to the bottom of the sea. For the Russians, the loss of this cruiser is purely reputational, and it does not represent even the smallest military loss, because that ship was only a few months away from turning into a pile of scrap metal... Let's face it... the Ticonderoga isn't any better either, an overweight ship on an ancient Spruance-class hull, where half of the ships in the fleet have developed structural cracks that undermine the seaworthyness of a ship!

There are two types of ASW Attacks: Deliberate and Urgent. Deliberate means you’re using your long range ASROC or Helo to drop a torpedo at a considerable distance. Urgent means you’re using the MK-32 SVTT for a close range torpedo shot at a sub. If The sub is that close - it’s urgent!

Served on this ship from 97 to 01. We were in Kuala Lumpur changing out a gas turbine generator in the bravo engine room after a fire. Got the call to GQ that next morning to get underway due to the Cole getting bombed in Yamen. Go Shiloh!!!!
