US Forces Invade Kerama Island Group Off Okinawa - Aka, Hokachi, Tokashiki Invasion Footage
US Army troops capture Aka, Hokachi, and Tokashiki islands in the Kerama Island group just west of Okinawa in this footage from March 26, 1945. Eight of the islands in the Keramas, located approximately 17 miles from Okinawa were captured prior to the April 1st landings on its west coast by the US 10th Army.

First came to these islands in 1962. Last was 1971..awesome footage..enjoyed ..
My great uncle Grant Gleason, Master Sergeant, died on one of the Kerama Islands May 20, 1945. He was a machine gunner. We are awaiting any identification of his remains. He was listed as MIA.
Spent much time on Tokashiki..great fishing as well in the Keramas...just beautiful...

A little confused... Where is this Hokachi island? I believe they misspoke as it was probably Zamami island which was the staging point for capturing Tokashiki

It’s Fukaji. It’s next to aka and geruma
Why take these islands? So that they could be used as a Forward Logistics Base in support of the main landings to the east.
