My mom is a psychologist and something she explained to me is that human minds are deeply, deeply uncomfortable with the idea some things happen and there's no one to blame. Our minds are so uncomfortable with the idea we'll try to spin the narrative and construct a person to point fingers at instead. I appreciate you looking at things with your inside knowledge and expertise and looking past that cognitive bias we all have where we want there to be a person to blame and providing a factual breakdown of events. If more people used their KZread platforms this responsibly, the world would be a better place.

I appreciate the insight. It's amazing 2 people survived that high of a fall with all that heavy ruble crashing down around them.

Thank you for your service Mr. Lawton As im a Florida citizen myself i know how you feel about the May 9th skyway disaster my mom rest her soul who we lost in 2022 was on the bridge at the time and had just paid the toll heading to bradenton but pulled over because she couldn't see. She remembered the greyhound bus passing her minutes before it took its plunge. My dad was on the bridge on his Yamaha bike when the blackthorn sank in January of 1980 Seeing this happen in Baltimore sends chills up my spine because if my mom didn't pull over when she did i wouldn't be here today when i came into this world in 1993. I salute you and all of the fellow coast guard veterans and servicemen/women My thoughts and prayers go to the families for all those who were lost in both the florida disasters and the Baltimore disaster

Big respect to you larry for explaining your trauma my dad has alot of ptsd from his old construction accident and he can't see a single horror movie or incident now without having to cover his eyes. He's currently 43 and he's done wrong in himself at life but I'm still proud of him

Wow Larry, I watch your videos and never knew you served in the coast guard when people say they have been around the block a time or two you for sure have. I have much respect for those who serve because of the sacrifices time away from those you love and of course the putting your life at risk. I sure would have loved to join a branch of the military and with parents consent was ready to try but one listen to my heart disqualified me from even trying. I’m still one of those who think all should serve a minimum of two years even handicapped I’m sure a job can be found for everyone. Lol like you have time to read this but maybe someone will and help them make the choice to serve. Man a lot of us say thank you for your service and most if not all truly mean it. Larry you sure have lead a pretty amazing life! Cheers to you man.

I’ve driven across the Key bridge many times…occasionally even seen a boat going underneath while I was driving across. Didn’t think nothing of it at the time…kind of F’s with your head a little when you think about it.

Thank you for today's message Larry. You taught me and many others how the cost guard works, and that this was purely an accident. The coast guard does so much to help others and help people in tragedies where people pass away. Thanks man.

Imo, too much of the coverage of disasters focus on what went wrong, who is to blame, the economic impact, etc... ...While ignoring the individual impacts of such tradedies- Trauma, re: both for the victims and survivors, and their families... And, particularly, on the responders (which is all too often ignored). So... Thanks, and Cheers!

I drive over the new sunshine skyway bridge once a month. That's crazy. They use the old bridge to fish of now. I'm a lot younger then you but I love hearing a first hand experience.

Seems like we got about as lucky as we could have with casualties in the Francis Scott Key bridge collapse considering the only ones who died were the workers who would have had to have like a 10 minute warning to escape.

Ive seen tugs help out naval ships who come up the york river and dock at the naval station on the york river i remember being at the yorktown beach when i saw the coleman bridge open and close which takes you over to gloucester county. Ive remember where i was when i saw the coast guard c130 and the helicopter they fly man. That was a sight to see. Its kinda sad to see a bridge that went down in my dads hometown. I remember i was at fort monroe once when a container ship went by i was think my oh shit man what they would have done if that engine faile

Ok so quick info on that specific backup generator, it cuts on after 45 seconds of poweloss and you only gain enough power for emergency steering. The power failures you saw were something different,bit would seem the capacitors still held enough charge after the first failure that the lights came back on immediately. I dont think the captain will be held liable for this, it seems they did everything in their power with a very small amount of time

When they put the engines in full reverse it swung the bow of the boat around and it just hit the pillar perfectly that container ship has a single prop

Fully agree with remote disasters impacting on seasoned first responders. It’s not necessarily the deaths that upset you, but the understanding of the stress that colleagues around the world may be experiencing. Understanding that it is by the grace of luck that you have not personally had to deal with it or similar. And understanding the trauma of colleagues lost to these incidents. I can but only imagine it is similar for military personnel too, possibly what draws foreign nationals to go to a war zone that’s not theirs, as we see with US, British and Canadian nationals migrating towards Ukrainian. So others may live!

All the sound effects almost made it impossible to listen to. At some points I could almost hear what was being said maybe turn the music up so we can’t hear at all

Watch the casual navigation video on it. He worked on ships like that and he thinks it was lose of bank effect on the one side because it is were a channel entered the main channel.

Side of bow did hit pillar, wider pier would have avoided bow to hit pillar. And island around pier + dolphins will stop ship, a simple road block can damage a truck. Just see where position ship is and you do ship can be stopped. In this case bow did hit pillar, bulb under water did hit pier LATER, pier stopped ship.
