The US has proposed further increases for tariffs on imports of Chinese semiconductors, electric vehicles (EVs), steel and batteries. The White House announcement on May 14, 2024, drew a swift rebuke from Beijing. China said the “political” decision will erode already frayed ties between the world’s two largest economies.
