    I have it but had to send my in for repair... out of the box, there's a big green vertical line in some of my footage. While I sent it to Black Magic and they said, "We can't reproduce it, it's works as expected" and they refuse to admit there's an issue, even though I sent them a ton of clips from different shoots. I want to LOVE their cameras but this is my third BM camera (the 12K, the BMPCC6K, BMPCC4K) and all three had had QC issues. My BMPCC4K's USB-C port sunk it and I had to send it in. The BMPCC6K's HDMI port fried and I can't use an external monitor. And then this one. The image is fantastic but their QC is brutal. You might get lucky though... but if not, they won't admit there's anything wrong with it.

    Oof… 😣 That’s messed up. I hope you got your money back. It’s honestly so fortunate that I didn’t get a bad unit because you’re right; they really have had QC issues. At this point, I’m standing by that is still worth it to use their cameras, so long as you can use it enough with the return window to see if it has issues. But, definitely not for everyone and not as reliable as other brands.

    I like your lens but for my 12K I use the Canon OIS with rod mounted bicycle type handlebars, and get very stable footage from the shoulder. I like your right angle connectors and microphone arrangements. I use the SanDisk Extreme Pro portable 2T. I love my U12K. My audio gain knob split like yours but I found the pieces, superglued it together and it has been fine, but replacement knobs are available from BMD. Be careful not to overtighten the 1/4 inch threads, once they pull out you can't get them back in and will have to replace them. Helicoil replacement kits are available from Amazon and elsewhere. Also, I use the Ursa viewfinder which means you need the factory shoulder kit with handle to have the correct mount plate for the VF. In addition to the very high resolution and frame rates and BRAW, the integration with DaVinci Resolve is beautiful. Finally, although not a dual gain sensor it is nevertheless ISO invariant, meaning among other advantages it has just as much DR at 3200 as at 800 or any available ISO, so highlight latitude is under your complete control, with additional shadow and highlight details are easily mined with or without the highlight recovery feature. At first I thought my Pocket 6K would have superior low light sensitivity but have since concluded, contrary to what has been believed, that the U12K is simply better everywhere within it's ISO range. It's just a great looking image from the unique 12K sensor with 50% white and RGB in equal amounts, that although has been eschewed by Netflix, nevertheless dominates the best 8K and 12K KZread videos, and unmatched frame rates.

  • @BehindTheFilm

    @BehindTheFilm

    Жыл бұрын

    Oh man, I do love the Highlight Recovery feature. 😍 Always handy. I’m curious what you meant by “DR” when you mention ISO. 🤔 The URSA’s desperate need to have TONS and tons of light in order to get a clean image that doesn’t have super noisy color is by far by biggest complaint with the camera. But I’ve managed to adapt for the most part. Definitely a solid cinema camera, but so weird that Netflix hasn’t recognized it as an approved camera.

  • @tomroper4600

    @tomroper4600

    @@BehindTheFilm Cory, "DR" is dynamic range. I don't agree about a desperate need for tons of light. It's not a camera for turning night into day like Sony A7SIII, but a tiny bit of temporal NR will clean up noise, and the path to better low light begins with a fast lens, in my case a fast Canon stabilized lens like the EF85 f1.4L IS and EF35 f2.0 IS. I usually shoot 12K 60 FPS and have no problem with natural shooting in difficult light. kzread.info/dash/bejne/gqSDp9eyfNWpeqw.html

    Quick notes. The music is a little loud. Definitely enjoyed the presentation but there were parts you were competing with the music volume. And be careful with VCT plates! You can’t buy one and its all good. You have to check the type- VCT and VCT U14. They are very similar but the U14 was made with a little more security in mind. So check your VCT plate and camera VCT Mount before you buy anything.

    Definitely go as low F stop or T stop that you can afford. Even out of the gate, this camera needs a lot of light to get a clean image. So, dark environments are not your friend, unfortunately. I've filmed over 100 sports games and even on some football night games with a T2.9 it can get a little dark if the field isn't very well lit.

Im trying to buy a top of the line Battery, lense, shoulder mount, gimbal, tripod, cables for the Blackmagic URSA 12K OLPF camera. Q#1. I noticed that this video is a year old. For Q3, I've had my eyes on the Zhiyun Crane 3 Pro because others have had success with it-but honestly, I'm not a fan of gimbals, especially for heavy cameras. I would go steadicam, slider, jib, or other controlled movement tools. 🙂

It can be wired or wireless for Start/Stop recording on Ursa Mini Pro if you buy an additional cable compatible with Ursa Mini Pro bodies. Obviously that’s a very expensive route, so if you’re just wanting start & stop functionality, Kondor Blue has a Top Handle that does Start/Stop, but idk if that’s quite what you’re talking about: amzn.to/3X9BBJd

    Most cameras cannot format above 2TB drives correctly so that it can be accessed by Windows or iOS. The only way to get it to work is if you format on your computer and never use the camera to format. Is this what you are doing? The reason is because cameras like the URSA 12K use the Master Boot Record partitioning system which maxes out at 2TB (instead of the GUID Partitioning Table). When my Pocket 6K Pro tries to format a 4TB SSD, it does some funky stuff such as creating 4 x volumes of 2TB, which is obviously wrong and therefore Windows and iOS cannot read it correctly. So what are you doing as a work around?

  • @BehindTheFilm

    @BehindTheFilm

    Interesting 🤔 I don't think I've ran into any issues formatting the SanDisk 4TB SSD. I'm a Mac user, but I think the URSA 12K has formatted the SSD without failing on me. But then again, I've done it maybe 2 or 3 times. I'm not a regular formatter.
