Uriah Heep - The Park
Music: The Park - Uriah Heep
Indian-Summer/Fall-Images from the Botanical Gardens and Slottsskogen-Park in Gothenburg, Sweden.
For years I took Uriah Heep's "The Park" as just a beautiful song about a beautiful park. Only while working on this little image-show did I realize that the song is in memory of a young man "who died in a needless war". I came to think of a young man who suffered this fate and had a memorial plaque in this very park I was taking my pictures.
David was a young Swede who went to New York to work for a while at a company located high up in the World Trade Center. He did not survive the terror attacks on September 11th 2001.
I dedicate this little image-show to him - as one of the many youngsters whose dreams do not soar any longer since their lives were cut short by needless war and senseless violence.

I cant believe how much I love their music
As a young teen w/ little desposible income. To get music. I would scour swapmeet & used record stores. At the swapmeet I found a young hippy couple w/ lots of music for sale. I picked up uriah heeps 1st 3 albums. Uriah heep. Salisbury & look at yourself. I paid a 1.00 each for them what a bargain. Introducing me to the joy of uriah heep music. This was 1973. My major imprint age. When I listen now it reminds me of southern California 1973. A time not to be repeated.
This is my whole life

Send this song to Putin, to melt his heart of stone.
One of my favorite albums from my favorite band in high school, and forever...Ken Hensley written and he played the harpsicord part on an old antique model they found in Germany... haunting and beautiful. No one is making this kind of beauty in modern music these years.
This song makes me shiver with nostalgia, the greatest band from a golden era of music.

The best antiwar song ever.

Um, no. They aren't too shabby as far as song lyrics go, but a Yeats would reject this even as a first draught. The great poets are on an entirely different level in terms of imagery, prosody and cognitive power.

Cheers. My opinion doesn't matter, it's demonstrable. Have you studied poetry and prosody? Read even a minor poem by Yeats and compare. Opinions are fine, but close textual analysis is something else. I recommend Alfred Corn's The Poem's Heartbeat, if you want to understand serious poetry. Give it a try. Your mind will be blown by the complexity of great poetry, a fundamentally different, and vastly more complex, art than song lyric writing, in the modern sense.
This is the most beautiful antiwar song, without talking much about war, only the last view words. Brilliant.

Great great song and vocals history in the making forever thanks guys.love ya.
To OD. This may not compare: But in LADY in BLACK by Uriah Heep, it sounds like a guitar and organ are having a conversation. And the bass guitar & drum play a dual heartbeat. I'd never heard that song in all the years I've listened to music; esp., from UH. I used to think that if I were a pro baseball player I'd use "Easy Livin'" as my intro music. I am in a "Heep listening mood" this morning for sure. But for what reason? That song by Heep, "RAIN" is a real stab in the heart. Never knew Heep did music like this!

I walked a while with you through the park Best song of Uriah Heep. In memory of two Davids R.I.P.
Let me walk a while alone Among the sacred rocks and stones Let me look in vain belief Upon the beauty of each leaf There is green in every blade The tree tops lean providing shade Maypoles spin in happy sound All nature's strength around And there's a horse that feels no pain Its iron strength to take the strain Children rock it to and fro And gaily drink its color glow Above, the sky, devoid of cloud Thinks not to cast a thunder shroud Upon this place so full of joy A field of gold of loves employ So, why my heavy heart, you say? When tears would stain, the sights so gay My brother's dreams, once here did soar Until he died at the hand of needless war
