URBEX: The Colours of the Ballymun Flats
Фильм және анимация
I grew up about a mile away from the Ballymun flats. Last Sunday I took a trip there to check out what the old surviving flats might look like. There are two surviving apartment blocks. One is inhabited and this final one has been abandoned for a few years awaiting demolition.
I managed to climb through the only window that was half easy to access and pray I didn't bump into any nasty junkies. What I found was obvious deriliction but a strangely beautiful palette of colour. Don't try this at home folks :-)

Ballymun was an awesome place to live , I grew up there and I still love the place. Hate seeing videos like these, gives a bad picture of ballymun, when really it was the opposite with a great community and really nice people

I'm from Co Derry and I think the people off Ballymun where Brilliant. They where not afraid to mobilize.
I had a delivery in Ballymun in Lorry 45ft job handball lockers of young boys gethere around amazed at the lorry. They gave me a hand to carry the locker of and in to building. I had cases of mineral in cab of lorry I got in coke cacola factory on the nass Rd Dublin the previous Day I gave the lads 2 cases for helping me and £10 punts. The year was 96 great summers Day. Them lads where great cubs. They had manners I hope they all got on well cos I often think of them wee boys.
i wish you had visited ballymun when people lived in the flats and you could have seen how lovely the homes where before this.

Hi Lynda. I knew quite a few who lived there back in the 70s. I lived about a mile away and went to school with a few from the flats. Having said that, I never had the pleasure of being in their homes but many seemed to come from large happy families.
nice tower block... like these.....abandoned....place....
Spot the chair!
Very interesting... I didn't know they were all empty. Is it still standing or has it been knocked down now?

Great video. My mam and dad lived in flats there. I grew up there too, when we had a house in Shangan. People made the flats pleasant and homely, despite the horrible surrounds. Especially the walk ups, after entry phones were added and once you passed through the door onto a landing, you would find plants and all the homely things people add. The stairwells and the basements - a far different matter. There were problem tenants too, of course. Hooligans setting off fireworks (mortars!) all night long, etc etc. The regeneration has been magnificent, and all is unrecognisable now. Also the quality of the new housing is superb. Concrete slabs slotted together are not a good basis for a home. Concrete walls? No. Thanks for the video.

Ballymun didn't have an accent ,Dublin has, people like you gave Ballymun a bad name by your comment. It wasn't poison ,and pity you never lived there at all
Should have blown the ones up with the Liverpool players on the wall, talk about scaring the kids.
