The Palace in this video was built in the XVIII century and became the home of Count Burnay, one of the richest persons in Portugal, who renovated it during the XIX century. Later it was bought by the State who installed there a school for the colonial services and then an university (where I had the joy to study). Teachers and students occupied the building until 2001, when the academic activities moved to a new and unimpressive block in another part of Lisbon. The Burnay Palace was a marvelous place to study, even better to party (all the students in town knew about the unforgetable nights, when the pink palace became a giant disco). Hope it recovers its shine, really a shame to see it becoming just another delirect...

I also went to uni here in 1984-1988. Those were blessed times, it was an amazing place, and the garden was stunning. The older part of the palace upstairs did not belong to the university. But it was still kept and beautiful as far as I know. I recently heard that it had been bought by public authorities and that it would be restored to his former glory and converted into a library. Hope it's not just a rumour.

As someone mentioned before, the person in the photo is Professor Adriano Moreira, not Salazar. Who, for the record, wasn't a "so-called" dictator: he was an actual one. Also, despite the "just like the communists" comment, Salazar was as far from a communist as can be, the man was a far-right fascist who kept Portugal under a conservative dictatorship for 50 years until 25th April 1974, when the military and the communists took the regime down. Very nice video, nonetheless, kudos to you, guys, for showing us this!

If you want to see some abandon trains theres 2 stations on the Douro line that can be "visited"... one of them is Livração and the other one Pocinho... long ago they were the start of narrow gauge lines that were closed and the trains, carruages and other railway materials were abandoned as it is..

Omg that was an Amazing castle!! The floors, staircases are impressive! All the wall mouldings and the door casings!! Impressive library!! I mean everything must have been out of this world in its glory days! I’m ready to move in! Hopefully the government restores it and keeps it as a natural treasure.

I plan to restore it. Right now, I am trying to reach the ones responsible. I've got a beautiful project for this marvelous place. It will be my second palace in Portugal. 🙏❤
