    As a former convict I can tell you, you're missing a step. You don't drink that water. You add a little bit of salt to that bowl of water, I believe it helps conduct the electricity, and then you place the actual plastic drinking cup full of water in the boiling water. When that cup starts to boil you now have water for a hot cup of coffee or Ramen noodle soup. Merry Christmas sir, and stay safe.🙏🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸

    What you build is a electrolysis cell. Splitting water into Hydrogen and Oxygen. (Bubbles have some "pop" in the) Issue is your water contains impurities (otherwise its not conductive) and those produce that sludge from the Metall/Cooper and some salts. So don't drink that but the hot stuff from the second container as stated before.

    When I was in high school 40 years ago... we built wooden boxes with 4 nails wired to one leg of an extension cord. A piece of wood with 4 more nails wired to the other leg of the extension cord. You stuck hotdogs on the first nails lined up the piece of wood to stick nails in the other end of hotdogs. The box had a lid that completed the circuit when closed it. You could cook 4 dogs in about 10 min.

    Only use this to heat water in a separate container. You can use a cup, bowl or bag, but you do NOT want to drink the stinger water as it will have contaminants in it, such as bits of the chrome plating. You should also put salt or better, baking soda, in the water. This will cause it to boil faster. You can make a smaller unit with metal washers, just make sure they don't touch.

It would be better to use a burner off a old stove or cast iron and wood than chrome-plated metal and rubber. Buddy - we love your videos but this one may be a hazard to people's health.

    ❤ As others have said, this is basically reverse electrolysis. You can see the color of the water before you put the electricity to it, after that the coating from the metal is reversing into the liquid causing it to turn yellow , you can see the discoloring of the water if you look at the white extension cord. This is absolutely not safe to drink... But I don't think you would want to cook anything in that hot water after the metallic Chrome or brass coatings have been dissolved

    An additional warning, in case anyone has not mentioned it yet: IF you are using steel plates with a zinc chromate coating (your basic zinc electroplating), or a chromed finish, OR if you are using Stainless Steel - ALL of these MAY add hexavalent chromium to the water using this electrolysis method. Hexavalent Chromium (HC) is produced when electric current is passed through stainless steel which has chromium added to it (to alloy it). HC MAY also be produced from the Zinc Chromate or Chrome coating that is commonly used on steel products to help prevent them from rusting. There are several kinds of stainless steel which do not use chromium; however, I do not believe a manufacturer is required under US law to disclose which kind of stainless steel was used to make a shower drain grate. And even if they were, I doubt most people would know the differences between stainless steels. Brandon, below, has it correct that you need to place a cup of water into the pool of water that you are doing this with, and allow the heat transfer from the boiling water into the cup water. However, IF plastic allows the hexavalent chromium pass through it into the drinking water, you would not want to drink it. (I am not 100% sure whether it will or not, but I personally would not take chances.) I would suggest some additional due diligence be done on this topic.

    If you run a small DC current through a small amount of very salty water, it will release the chlorine and make a solution you can add to a larger quantity of water to sterilize it. You don't use electrolysis directly on the drinking water because it's not just making heat due to resistance. It's actually causing a chemical reaction. The results of the chemical reaction vary by what the conductors are made of and whatever besides H2O is in the water. Another byproduct is an explosive gas often referred to as Browns Gas or HHO.

  • @RichardHarlos

    @RichardHarlos

    5 ай бұрын

    Interesting, I never heard of Brown's Gas before. Looked it up and was relieved to see it has a very high ignition point: Brown's gas, and HHO, are terms for oxyhydrogen.... Oxyhydrogen will combust when brought to its autoignition temperature. For the stoichiometric mixture in air, at normal atmospheric pressure, autoignition occurs at about 570 °C (1065 °F).

    My mom used to have an old vaporizer based on this principle. She would use it in our room if one of us got sick with the flu. It had a cup attached to it to add some Vix vapor rub to so it would get vaporized with the water and help decongest your nose. You would need to add a pinch of salt to it to start it off. Adding TOO MUCH salt though, would just cause the water to violently boil away too quickly! Worked like a charm and lasted many years too!

    I'm going to leave this for Andrew to answer. I wanted to throw in a little tip, no liqui-gels or coated capsules or tablets. Like Tylenol has the coated caplets get the ones that are compressed dry ingredients. I love using advil liqui-gels they seem to work faster. The problem is if you add a little heat and humidity and you have a solid unusable mass. Remember this with RX meds too, talk to your pharmacy about uncoated pills.

  • @tok2daniel

    It might be interesting to know that two other things are going on with that set up. First, the immediate bubbling that you see is H2O being separated into oxygen and hydrogen. Second, this is how you electroplate metals, so as someone noted, the chrome from one of the plates is being broken down and transferred to the other plate. Also, as noted in another comment, you wouldn't want to drink this water or use it directly for cooking, Rather heat another container of fresh water by placing it in the bowl. Oh, and add a little salt to the bowl to aid conduction. Believe it or not, strictly pure water doesn't conduct electricity. Thank you for posting… I hadn't thought of boiling water this way. Normal electrolysis only uses a few volts, but lots of amps.
