    That is a super nice cdv700. Just bought my first one after years of thinking about it....so thanks for my new addiction to expensive scientific equipment. Going to spruce pine soon.

    You should get an alpha particle scintillation probe! Eberline makes nice ones, which should be compatible with your Ludlum!

    Mark Rose last time I tested, it was easy to detect the radium. I'm hoping to pick up potassium this time, too.

    It appears that you modified your mod. 700 Geiger counter with aBNC connector. Would that be to have option of connecting a pancake probe ? I was thinking of buying a pancake from eBay and trying it with my mod 700. That should work I think.. Did you do that and did it work ? Thanks.

    I have a ring that glows but I don't know if it's green spinel. It's set in 18k with D&F stamp. I can't find anything on it. It has mohs 3to4. How do I find out what it is

    I find stuff like this every once in a while. I really want a Geiger counter or any way to measure my glass. Just for kicks, so meters are expensive.lol

    I think thorite is considered a radioactive gem though I'm not entirely sure if thorite is indeed actually considered a gemstone.

    Hey Tom, do you have any interest in some radium dial watches and alarm clocks? I have too many in my collection and would like to find a home (or lab) for some of the hotter pieces.

  • @Anti-proton

    @Anti-proton

    6 жыл бұрын

    tornado5783 I test my detectors against a 95 percent confidence assayed source to ensure they are functioning correctly, but I don't calibrate them to an energy unit unless I'm explicitly testing a given energy unit. I normally recommend hobbyists calibrate every 2 or 3 years, and professionals should calibrate based on their organizations calibration plan.

    Besides the potassium salt, another good example/point to make is whenever you travel on a plane your dose goes up by at least 3x vs sea level, and no one thinks twice about it - nor do you hear of pilots or flight attendants getting radiation sickness (because it isn't enough of a dose to notice or worry about, even though they spend 6-12h/day at that dose from the altitude).
