UPSIDE DOWN FORKS REBUILD for my CAFÉ RACER Build, COMPLETE Front End SWAP

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today I rebuild an Upside Down Forks from a 2005 Yamaha R6, I change the oil, replace the seals and dust caps.
After that I will adapt the entire 2005 Yamaha R6 front end on my Yamaha Virago Café Racer Build, it will give my bike a meaty look in the front compared to the flimsy stock front end I have now.
So far I have been working exclusively on the back of the bike, so it was time for me to tackle the front. I ordered those parts from different eBay sellers a year ago and never opened the boxes so I was wondering if the parts were any good. Well, I found a bent steering stop on the lower triple clamp but everything else was nice and straight, so I went ahead and rebuilt the forks with fresh new oil, seals and dust caps.
For this I used 2 tools that you may not have: a spring compressor and a seal driver.
I put links below if you want to check those tools out.

awesome - I don't have a lot of room (or expertise) and seeing you modify this virago makes me think I can tackle it...can't wait to see how it turns out.

Awesome channel. Subbed right away. So I have an 84 klr 600 and have been wanting to do this, how do I go about finding new parts for such an old bike? I found some 38mm tunes I want to get, but as far as the triple tree, idk I'll guess I'll have to do some measurements. I'm a beginner so I have a lot to learn

Hey Tristen, been loving both your Virago and R1 videos. Are you planning on doing more Virago content or is your focus mainly on the R1 until it’s done?

Thanks a lot Sean! Yes I’ll go back on the Virago the second I’m stopped on the R1 and it should be in a few days. Don’t worry I love building more than rebuilding so this cafe racer is going to happen ✌️

Hello Tristan, I’ve been watching all your videos and especially the one about swapping the front end of the Virago and did some modification to limit the turn angle. My question is, does using wider triple clamps than the ones the bike had from factory to accommodate a bigger wheel especially for a cafe racer affect how a bike runs?

Nice man. I am starting a 2005 R6 front end build on my FZ6R as well. How was the steering stem length in comparison to your original one and what did you do to overcome and differences.

So my girl asked what i do. I'm an ohlins/racetech certified bike tech. Don't do forks like this. Don't be "that guy". If you can't or just plain won't do something the right way then pay somebody who can. Those old bikes handle like crap already, and converting the front wrong will make it WORSE. But hey, at least he scrubbed the stuff people will see really well...

I’m not the only guy changing the front end of an old bike for a cafe racer conversion... not sure what someone that I would pay would do better than me except taking my money 💵
