Upper Etowah River Fishing

Ойын-сауық

At least once a summer I try to make this float from East Cherokee in Ball Ground down to Canton’s Etowah River Park and fish. This year there is a new take out at The Mill on Etowah thanks to Murphs Surf Shop that we were able to explore.

Just discovering your channel... SUBSCIBED! I live about half mile from the south Etowah river in Euharlee and kayak fish, or family float, often. I've still never fished the upper Etowah except for in a boat going from Knox bridge to Shoal creek. I definitely need to get up around Cherokee county to do some kayak fishin'

Thanks! A lot less people on the upper, most our launches are somewhat “primitive”. Once the lake fish hit post spawn, give the upper a try!

The final tally on lost/broke equipment ended up being 2 lost rods and reels, and 1 other broken rod totaling about $400. Even with that flip and lost equipment it was a fun trip full of fish catches. Definitely going to invest in rod floats since my tethers failed.

I’ve already started to cheap out on combos for the river after how much I’ve seen get lost in the current! It’s relentless.

@@SammyBenitez Oh yeah, that is a good idea. I was already planning to have a cheap set of river gear that won't cost as much to replace if lost.

Any idea how long a float from Etowah River Park to Fields Landing might take? That's a trip I have been wanting to take but I'm pretty new to fishing and kayaking and I'm not sure how long it would take. Thanks, love the videos!

That water is very flat. I would use Knox bridge as a take out over fields. I’ve covered most of the Etowah from Dahlonega to lake Allatoona, but that’s one section I don’t frequently return too. Lol. But from Etowah River Park to Boling is about 1-2 hours. Boling to knox is 5-6 hours. Knox to fields is 2 miles of zero current, it would add another 2 hours or so. It would be an all day event.

Hey! I just moved near the Ball Ground area and found your channel when looking for some fishing spots. I'm just starting to get into fishing and was wondering if you had any advice or cool spots around the area to cast from?

Welcome to the area! There is some bank access at the Hickory Log Creek Reservoir ramp. There is also a little room at the Lathem Reservior to fish from the bank, but it’ll cost $5 just to park for a bit and check it out. Beside that, any road intersecting with water is usually public access. The Etowah has several areas (McGraw ford WMA area, etowah river park, heritage park, Boling park, Knox bridge entering lake Allatoona). Fields landing until they start to drain lake Alllatoona. You could go to Dawson county WMA (“edge of the world”) and hit Amicalola Creek for some trout. I would pull up Google Earth and start scoping out bodies of water near you and along your commute to see if you can fish them.

@@SammyBenitez Awesome! I'm hoping to get out either this weekend or the next so I'll do some research and get going. Thanks for the tips!
