Uplifting Tour at Johanniter hospital Duisburg - Rheinhausen, Germany

Ғылым және технология

News: The small OTIS elevator (at 00:42) has been heavily modernizued: Now with steel cab and new full automatic doors. This hospital has got a lot of awesome old 1960's OTIS elevators! Beautiful! Prepare for an introduction of the legendary elevator operator controls at 11:05 !
Johanniter Hospital in Rheinhausen is a classic hospital from 1960, equipped with four elevators from 1960, all made by Flohr-OTIS. Part of the hospital architecture are also two early extensions, added in 1963 together with two more OTIS elevators. And then the hospital has been randomly extended again until the early 90's. The newest elevator here has been added in the existing building right next to the main 1960 OTIS elevators in the main lobby. It probably has been built for wheelchair passengers, because the two automatic doors elevators at the main entrance are both staff-only and the two small ones are not really capable for such passengers.
Duisburg city budget is worse and the city government has no chance of funding a big modernisation programme, that's probably the reason. The elevators, especially the two big ones (but also the small ones abit) are very much run-down. It is a surprise they still work. The 1963 elevators are in much better condition, but also quite frequently used. The elevators in this hospital are quite far from being in a good condition. I really wonder about the future of hospitals in Duisburg, one hospital in this city already has been closed (St Barbara, an elevator tour of that is available on this channel) and maybe more follow.

first lift is artwork. second lift has decent modern doors. it has nice premature door open. ouch, food transport lift is very shaky. fourth lift lets us see it leveling. screeching tells you that the lift is near your destination floor. new lift is a contrast to the old ones. Post, I agree. modernizing a lift so soon is unusual. this function is also called elevator operator. how can that many people ride in ONE lift?

7:35 - wow such a loud motor at slow speed 10:50 sounds like the motor from one of my Otis lift videos... (The final) Old lifts of bracknell town centre tour - (1) The High Street Car Park no.4 (see 6:02) 12:00 thanks for explaining a bit about liftboy mode. I always wondered what the up and down arrows do - I knew they were for a lift attendant, but didn't know how to use them.

This is awesome! I guess all the automated-door lifts have the popular disc-system, that the elevator positionates with, making a smooth leveling. You must arrange a machineroom tour there soon. :o)

Niice! Original 1960's elevators in a hospital in Germany! Would be great to find more original ones in a hospital in Finland or Sweden :-D

Love the classic OTIS black button fixtures! They remind me of a V&D department store in Utrecht, the netherlands, especially the bigger lifts with the liftboy mode is very similair to the lifts there. I wonder why they used a liftboy mode in a hospital lift. Another interessting thing is that two lifts next to each other are so different, i.e. the bigger lift with the automatic doors and the liftboy mode, while the smaller lift has a swing door. I have seen a similair arrangement in a local 1950's building. Is that 1980's lift original? It looks modernized (although stainless steel was sometimes used in the 80's as well). I've got the impression that there a still quite a few black button fixtures around, simply because they are made to last, unlike a lot of modern fixtures.

Bas Davids Ja, precies!

The "food transport" elevator seemed to be in the worst condition. Did the 1960 Flohr-Otis elevators with swing doors always have inner doors, or were they added? On the 2nd 1963 Flohr-Otis elevator, I think the indicator might have been replaced, but I am not sure. I thought Otis dropped Flohr from their name in Germany way before 1990? The 2nd Flohr-Otis elevator with swing doors had an epic motor! It also appeared to have premature door open (Otis's actual original term for classic leveling)

I think they dropped Flohr from their name before 1990 (they still used it in 1988 however), but not sure. And the buttonpanel labeled as Flohr-OTIS might be an older sparepart from the late 80's. It is a generic Kronenberg buttonpanel. I am not sure about that, too... Both passenger lifts with swing doors originally didnt have inner doors, no doubt. In Germany, Flohr-OTIS began using inner doors from 1967 onwards. Those center-opening 2-speed sliding inner doors have been designed by OTIS as a simple solution to be added on innerdoorless lifts. The pre-1967 Flohr-OTIS swing doors lifts do not support inner doors. To make them possible, they used the relay that controls that shaft door interlock so it operates the inner door instead. Of course this makes the shaft door interlock useless, so these inner doors have some strange rail on them, pushing the interlock aside when fully open. Very simple and reliable technique.

at the start it seems silly that the staff would keep the auto-door lift and make the public use the manual door one!.

well, that is how things were going in the 1960s and probably the reason why the added that public 2002 Peters lift right next to the staff-only auto-door lifts...
