Upgrading my boat trailer lights to LED's and some basic trailer maintenance 🚤

Ойын-сауық

In this video I install some fully sealed LED lights on my boat trailer. I also check the wheel bearings and give the trailer a once over.
It’s a very basic video but I am just starting to get back into things after a second ankle surgery in as many years.

G’day Legends I have been a little quiet for a while due to another ankle surgery so sorry about that. So while I’m out of action I thought I would give the trailer a once over. It’s very basic stuff but it might be useful to someone . Let me know if there is anything else you think I should be doing to it. Cheers. PS I’m heading to Fraser next week for some beach fishing so if anyone sees me come say g’day.

Little tip for you inregard to cleaning bearings, use diesel instead of petrol. Diesel dries leaving an oily film which helps rollers should grease be missed on a roller and its far less flammable to work with. 😎

Good stuff! LED lites are awesome aren’t they? The bearings are probably the most important thing to check - I can put 2000 km on my unit in a season - last thing you want is issues at the side of the roadway. I actually took a wire wheel to all rust and painted over it to make it look better ha ha ha Thanks from 🇨🇦 - cheers

Nice rims, wish I could justify the expense to upgrade my gal wheels to alloys, but not for something that's just aesthetic, and the missus would kill me. :) FYI don't use WD40 on your wheel studs... it's great for breaking loose rusty nuts but it's not actually a lubricant... in fact it removes oils and greases. Better off with a smear of grease on the threads.

Nice an simple explanation mate👍 I built my trailer 20+ yrs ago an since new have used the deodorised aerosol fish oil on all the bolts and u bolts etc and I have towed that boat up the cape several times (as lived in Cairns for 30 yrs) and as far south as Melbourne an back to cairns and all the hardware is original so the fish oil definitely works👍👍 Stay safe budd 🤙

Great job mate. Fully watched, ads and all. 😃👍The only thing I do when I do my wheel bearings is wear a pair of blue disposable surgical gloves to prevent my hands getting greasy. Also when I put the main bearing nut back on I tighten it all the way up, and then back it half a turn and then line it up with the split pin hole ensuring that there’s still a very tiny bit of play (sideway movement) in the wheel. I double check this by holding the wheel when it’s tightened back on ( while still jacked up) holding it in the 3 and 6 o’clock position and give it a tiny wobble check making sure there’s a tiny bit of movement. Great vid as always. Loved how you did the lights. I need to replace my trailer lights too. Sick of using a light board again. Hope that ankle heals well mate. Cachya soon. 😃👍

Yeah gloves is a good idea. I did tighten the nut all the way up before backing it off and nipping it back up. Probably should have shown it or said something about it.

@@AusAdventure Thanks mate. Actually last time I bought submersible lights I joined the wires,at the back end and they only lasted about 2 years. I didn't know you could buy them with the wiring all they way to the plug so I`ll now try and do the same. The light board that i bought becomes annoying each time. Good to see you back mate. That ankle injury sounds annoying.

Great video & good to see you posting up 👌 Agreed with backing the nut off so there’s a very little bit of free play. That allows for the bearing to expand as it warms up. Looking forward to watching more of your adventures 🎣🚤

Hey mate just finished watching your shed house build videos. Bloody inspirational. Makes me want to get off me butt and get finished on my 6x6 putting a Mezanine floor in and storage. On this vid I noticed you have bugger all rust throughout your trailer. You get out a lot more then myself for sure so I was wondering what tips you have for keeping the rust at bay on the springs etc I give mine a decent wash down but it’s so bad after maybe 5 years I am ashamed.

  • @AusAdventure

Hey thanks Paul. Yeah I give the trailer a very good wash after each use but I also spray it with Inox or WD40 depending on what I have on hand at the time.

@@AusAdventure do you do that after every wash? I bought the salty captain stuff and always what I thought was a solid wash. Maybe I need to get the pressure washer out or something followed by the innox or wd40. So annoying

Hey mate I just bought the same trailer lights. Quick question once the wirings fed up through the frame how do you connect it to the plug ? Do you just twist 2 colour matched wires together then put it into the plug and screw it down? Thanks

  • @AusAdventure

    @AusAdventure

    Жыл бұрын

Yeah if two are the same such as the brake lights you would twist them together. Google a wiring diagram to make sure you put them in the right position in the plug. 👍
