Thanks for the review/post. I am setting up my 36" and live in Florida . . . the rust factor scares me. Looking at the silicone matt as an addition and didn't realize this model existed. I like the over the lip coverage. Appreciate the review and knowledge sharing.

I just got a griddle mat as a gift. But seeing how it’s going to be getting all oily underneath from the cooktop, I’m thinking I’m only going to use it during longer periods of storage. Like during Winter.

If using for extended periods of time like through winter make sure all surfaces are completly dry or you'll end up with a little rust. I have no issue with the mat being oily from day to day use and the griddle surface is in great shape

@@skinners100honestreviews3 I’m a first-time griddle user, having just got a Used one from a friend… So you’re saying during the Winter I SHOULDN’T leave it piles up?? I would’ve thought that the coat of oil would help keep the rust away. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@KneelB4NoMan What I'm saying is, make sure your griddle top is completely dry before you add your final coat of oil and the griddle mat lays flat on the griddle. I then if any air can get under the mat it will produce condensation which can result in rust spots on the griddle top.

Wondering if this would help here in the brutal Pennsylvania winter. I’m thinking make sure I have a really good season on the griddle before putting it up and putting a mat on to help protect from rust over the winter. Anyone have thoughts on that application?

Yep, season well then make sure you get the full wrap mat that covers the side rails. I would also put a full cover over my griddle to protect the front/knobs and ignitor

I use mine to protect the griddle top but then I cover it with a diamond plated cover and then a vinyl cover over that so I don't have teh issue with debri. I would suggest a full griddle cover as well as the griddle mat

I am about to take possession of a 36” Blackstone and doing my research on accessories. With the mat, I’m thinking that when removed with the oil residue, dust and dirt would stick to the underside and need to be cleaned every time. It seems like a total grill cover would accomplish the same purpose and not require the extra step of soap and water cleaning of the mat every time.

I don't disagree... I have 3 covers on mine. The mat does not get cover with dust or cat/dog hair only because it's off for about an hour or so. But I do use a diamond cover over the griddle plate and then a full cover over everything... the vinyl cover can hold water and seep so I would put something under it so that water can run off

I've never tried... And really wouldn't recommend it. I would think the silicone would have a melting point even though it clearly says no heat transfer. Also, I would think it change the flavor of your food.
