I drilled out the aluminum eyes of my bump head to accommodate .130 line and now have the best of both worlds.

@@carlsmowerandsaw Feeds well. The trick is to open up the eyes and widen the slot above the eye enough to get it in. Also helps to thin the end of the line that goes into the spool or it won't fit. The aluminum eye is soft and files easily. I used a 5/32 chainsaw file to widen the slot. In the field, that .130 line is much less likely to break and it will cut tough briar canes and small saplings (1/4"). I'm running it in my Stihl 131 brushcutter, so I have the power to keep the head from bogging down in the thick stuff.

Looks similar to the efco load and go head. On my fs94r and fits 130. It's still bump stop. Rarely every have feed more line
I got one of those for my FS 56, and love it.

Hi Josh been using stihl equipment for years Inc motormix one thing I Can't get my head around is the new guards on the fs series tried putting metal blade on a fs 240 in the end changed the gearbox on an older machine like you showed us a video on these new guards would be helpful many thanks for your help

I am not sure what warranted the change but several years ago Stilp went for a 2 V gearbox to a single bolt gearbox. When that change happened some of the geometry on the bottom where the deflector mount was changed it is now somewhat rounded so the old school guards that were held on with four screws and a perfectly flat surface now will not work on the new models.
Will this fit the fs38?

Absolutely it will spin right on
Remove the deflector; void warranty. Personal fan of speed feed head, and definitely no curved shaft weedeater for this ol boy🤮

You are right on when it comes to a straight shaft trimmer it is the way to go
