This is a gem. I have been stuffing around with my kobo mini 2GB for a couple of weeks trying to create a backup of the micro sd card and install an 8GB one. Nothing i tried worked...every backup i tried refused to boot once installed into the kobo mini...until i came across this tutorial. It worked perfectly first go. Follow tutorial exactly as outlined and your kobo mini will be both backed up and data storage size increased as outlined. A big thank you

I cant believe it. Tried this on my Kobo Touch N905b using a 8gb mico sd card and it WORKED. Its a little 'laggy' but all functions work. Thanks mate. Update: swapped out SD card for a 16gb class 10 instead and now runs much snappier. Kudos 👌

Believe it or not I'm actually doing this very thing in 2022 with my Kobo Mini. I also found a replacement battery and that will be installed in January. Thanks for the very very helpful video. Brilliant stuff lad.

Hey, 2023 modder here! Just bought one with a swollen battery for $20 AUD. Hopefully a new battery fixes my issues with the device not working correctly.

Added a 32Gb SD card to my Mini love it ,wish that would come out with mini with a front lit screen and 300 PPI !

this worked perfectly to swap a Kobo Glo's simple 2G card to a 16G Samsung card. thanks! and yeah, in the year 2020 i'm still using an old device like that.

This is great! Have you never tried changing the firmware? I can't find a video to walk through putting Koreader firmware onto a Kobo Mini.

no promises. if I find mind (packed for the move a couple years ago) I will try to remember to backup the memory if that is possible. I am not sure if the image is on the SD card or on some internal memory or not.

I wish I could help you but I have no idea I did mine by finding instructions online on how to do it I made a video to try to simplify it for other people but I was simply following instructions other people created

No it does not have USB host functionality only USB slave functionality meaning it can connect to other things but other things cannot connect to it

Well as it turns out my stock is only 2Gb so it's good I had to open it up. Great video. Do you think there is any limit to the size of SD it can handle? As an example, I have an old Samsung Tablet won't support a card greater than 16Gb. Wonder if I can use a spare 32Gb that I have laying around.

Unless they have strangely hard-coated a particular memory size in theory up to 32GB should be safe there are some structure changes past 32 gigabytes that might prevent you from using larger but as long as they didn't do anything weird in theory a 32 gigabyte card should work do not throw away the old to gigabyte card in fact I advise taping it to the inside of the cover when you resemble the eBook reader I have had my cards fail on me in the past rendering it unusable with that to gigabyte card inside there you can reformat and reclone a new card easy peasy think of it as your master never throw it away never delete it

tried to clone the original sd card with Paragon and failed , then I found this post, thanks a lot. And failed again with a Sandisk Ultra 64G , then succeeded with a Samsung 16 GB.

could you please send me the image for the KOBO GLO sd card? I still have the partitions but two of them were formatted by the system, I'll be very grateful

I don't currently have them and I don't know where they are I moved across the country 3 years ago scattered hard drives and a lot of stolen computers during the move I do have two kobos one modified one not. I can't provide any guarantees it might be next week it might be next 2 years from now but I will try to remember to post the image if I either find it or manage to make another copy

it does take a class 10, but who knows if there's an increase in speed.

I would be surprised if I could do that because the 128gb is fundamentally different in architecture it's probably limited to 32 gigabytes but even 3rd to gigabytes would be absolutely insane for a device that small that only reads books that would literally be more books than you could read in your lifetime most likely :-)
