Basically with these minimizations these days you are frequently loosing the ability to upgrade anything. Here the lack of ssd/ram upgrade options is ridiculous. It is like buying a tablet....you stick with it and when it is obsolete you need to dispose it. And 256gb and 8 gb is the bare minmum for using a laptop. If the idea is to surf the net and use it for educatonal purposes probably it is a good cheap alternative. But even so i would go for a more expensive option where you do not have such constraints. In case some of the ssd/memory chips fails you need to undergo an expensive repair and usually you would end buying a new one. So check what are the expantion capabilities forst before going to the store.

Thank you for the feedback. It is very disappointing how these laptops (phablets) are marketed. Many people buy them thinking they can upgrade them later, and when I give them the unfortunate news and show them the inside, they go crazy! This approach is not just limited to Asus; all brands do this.

Thank you for showing that the ram upgrade is not possible, I wish people would know the go model vivobooks are not ram upgradeable, all the ones that do not say go are Ram upgradeable at least with easy access, on the go model you have to do the heat gun method and I don't think anyone wants to use a heat gun, if they want to have more RAM they should buy the higher capacity Ram model VivoBook go with 16gb if they can find that anywhere

It's my pleasure my friend. and it is not "heat gun", it's called reballing the BGA ram chips, and that is risky if you don't have experiance doing it, not something anyone can DIY at home. cheers🍻

@@uFixTek well my friends call it the heat gun trick so I think we're on the same paige, and if I was going to get this particular model I would just buy the high end with the 16 gigabytes rather than get an 8 gigabyte and try to do it myself

I always tell my clients to research the upgradability of the laptop they want to purchase and then choose the right one. Even if you get a 16GB soldered RAM, and after a few years one of the RAM chips fails, you will need a heat gun to replace a RAM chip rather than just changing the RAM.

You said 256k ssd?!

🫠Regarding your question, YES you can NOT upgrade the ram. i made this video to explain and show, because i get somany emails and comments, that request to show them why, so i take the time to waist to open one and show to those that don't belive that you can't. cheers🍻
