    I’ve tried the whole Windows thing and nothing but trouble whereas with my Mac’s I’ve never really had any issues that weren’t my own doing! Plus certain apps especially audio based just work better with Mac OS

    Buying a current gen Mac for just djing is a waste of money. I bet most Mac users have multiple uses for their laptop because it’s such a great system for media based tasks. Updates are a fact of life and let’s be honest - a first world ‘problem’’. Thanks for your informative narrative on this topic. Simple common sense stuff

    I'm one of those old school guys still running my 2013 macbook pro using osx 10.11 with serato DJ pro. I only use my laptop for djing and nothing else but I do fear that it may be time to at least upgrade to a decently packaged macbook air. Thank you for your input as always, Pri.

    I just retired my 2013 15” MBP. It was my beast. Dual GPU but sounded like a jet plane taking off from time to time. New MB Air M1. So far so great on Monterey

    I use for home practice a macbook air 2012 (core i5, 8g ram) with High Sierra. Serato and Rekordbox runs flawless, Traktor also, everything supported. Kontrol Z2, Pioneer Rev1, DDJ 400, Rx2 without problem. After 1hrs of using starts the fan, becomes a little bit warm, but thats it. I've played also longer sets, 6-8hrs with this setup. So if you only use an older mac for just djing and music organisation, it's okay. I plan to buy a mac with m1 chip, then the the next 10 years are safe again i think💁‍♂️

    I needed this video so bad. My rev 1 is lagging every 30 seconds for like 0.5 seconds. I cant scratch because if i catch that frame the platters dont move. Im upgrading to catalina as a last resource. If it doesnt work its time for a new laptop. Im running 1tb ssd, 16gb ram, i7 procesor. Late 2011 macbook pro

    I’d love to know if there’s a preferable iOS to run for a certain device e.g. does the 2019 MacBook Pro run better on Monterey than Ventura etc. My old 2018 was rock solid on Mojave but glitchy as hell on Big Sur.

    iOS can’t run on a Mac. But my rule lately is to keep it one OS behind. When Sonoma came out, I upgraded to Ventura. All the bugs are usually worked out for that OS by then.

    Recently installed a new MacBook. But I'm now also using it for day to day stuff. Question: Is it safe/smart to setup a separate user account for dj-ing and can I also adjust the settings separate?

    I’m about to buy a MacBook Pro to start Djing and have plans to use laptop for music production later. Should I buy a 2015 or 2020? Have a budget of $1200 but if I can buy used for under $700, I will definitely take that route. What’s more important? The year or the specs?

  • @priyonjoni

    If you have a $1200 budget, you can get an M1 MacBook Air for $999. I got one for my fiance on sale for $800 at Best Buy last year. All MacBooks since 2017 have been more than capable to handle Serato. You can use the remaining funds to pay for Apple Care.

    Great video as always Pri yon Joni. Question I have a 2010 MacBook Pro. Operating Sierra, current equipment 2 1200s/S9 i noticed that when I’m djing after a hour or so my serato crashes. However I already updated my RAM and Hardrive a few years back. Do you believe it’s time to just put this old MacBook to rest?

  • @priyonjoni

    @priyonjoni

    2 жыл бұрын

    I can’t speak on the cause of the crash without proper diagnosis. One possibility is corrupted RAM. There are utilities you can look up to diagnosis this. But let’s evaluate the facts. Your laptop is 12 years old and the operating system is probably capped. Just knowing that, do you believe this is a reliable machine for DJing?

    I switched back from Mac to Windows in 2015. I never looked back. Apple has been anti-consumer for years and actively works against independent repair shops. They went downhill since Steve Jobs died. People complaining about Windows just have used it on crappy computers. Apple doesn't sell cheap stuff so there is a standard level. On PC you can get extremely cheap stuff that gives Windows a bad name. My 2014 desktop still is fairly fast for today's standards. My 2016 and 2018 laptops are also still in the running. Before M1, Macs were just the same inside as any other PC. Just with different software.

    If you used Time Machine when you had Mojave, you can use Time Machine to back up to when you had Mojave. If you have never used Mojave, then you will need to erase everything on your laptop to install it.
