PJ, you're absolutely right but I do think that the other factors in the video played a major role. Since offloading apps, changing the "analyze stems" setting, and amongst other things probably helped not just, but others watching the video! (Or at least I hope...) I know the video is a bit long, but I figured telling the story and adding the timestamps can allow you to jump to the points you're most interesting in! p.s. - love your work man, it's awesome that you even took the time to watch the video! Thank you for the support.

@@officialJonDivine it's a bit shocking you have to close all those small apps. I've never had a crash on my cheaper M1 MacBook Air with only 8GB of RAM. And I have Dropbox, Google Drive, Creative Cloud, Team Viewer, and even ScreenFlow recording. And I'm using real time stem rendering. Perhaps you're not properly closing your big apps like Premiere or Photoshop. Clicking X only closes the window.

Ah yeah, I had to get rid of creative cloud on my brothers laptop last year, another huge issue we had was automatically changing backgrounds in windows causing stutter. I remind him to restart before every performance. I am happy to hear you have solved your issues, once serato incorporates native m1 ARM instructions it will likely run much smoother since they will no longer require the rosetta translation layer

You did great with this! I had more Major Issues than you think. What made matters worse Im a Video DJ... TOTAL CRASH every 30 min! with 3.0!!!!!!! Thanks for the video John!! From the first day when serato came out customer support told me right away use this laptop with serato ONLY FOR MUSIC! Nothing else and you won’t have any issues!

Sounds like good news… This is why I use a dedicated Laptop just for DJing nothing else and still using 32 GIGs of Ram… I also bring a dedicated backup laptop that is Dropbox synced to the main laptop… Two laptops for DJing apps only…. Nothing else…Also I pre analyze all tracks in my library when updating to new versions of DJ software… (yes this takes a few days weeks depending on the library size.. so plan accordingly)… I use another computer for content creation and streaming, lighting control… All in all … Glad Serato reached out you got it all fixed!! Thanks for the good content..🤩

@@officialJonDivine Haha, I wish I could but I use them all; (2) for DJing (one is a backup), and (1) for a content creation/streaming… They are not the high end Mac books… (too expensive)lol … They are PC laptops … much better value in my opinion…Yes it’s an investment but we’ll worth it to be safe…😂🤣 And always use elevated laptop cooling trays with fan…

You can also put 2 different versions of serato on the same Laptop. I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro i7 processor and 16gb of ram and my OS is on Catalina and it’s been running 3.0 with no issues now I do keep that “analyze stems” box checked off when checked on you can see the cpu meter jump up quick.

Hi Jon, just a quick one. randomly last couple of Giggs I have had my music suddenly crash, the midi controller sound monitors also crash and a weird buzzing sound or drop out happens. if I turn the stems analyse option off. does this mean I turn of the ability to remove vocals, instrumental etc?

When I’m creating stems on serato pro the acapella is cutting in and out but plays fine when I take off the stems. Why is that ?

This is not the issue that I am having. Can anyone help me with Serato on my Mac? I can get sound to come out of the computer speakers, but I when I switch the output to DDJ-Rev1 it does not produce any sound through my speakers. I unchecked the box in Serato audio settings for the computer and still nothing. Please help!

I had a top specked MacBook Pro 2020 (intel 10th gen i7 32gb ram and 1tb ssd 13”) which was a beast. What slowed everything down for me was MacOS updating into Monterey. Ventura actually seemed faster, but when I upgraded to Serato 3.0, I had a ton of issues!

I had issues with my 2018 on Big Sur. No audio dropout but the waveforms constantly lagged. Having said that, It was only 8gb with i5 but recently said fuck it and updated to Ventura. Idk what was with Big Sur but it always lagged. I figured it would lag even worse on a more demanding OS but I’m pretty clueless when it comes to the tech. 3.0.1 wouldn’t even open on Bog Sur.

I finally updated my 2018 MacBook to Ventura from Big Sur and all my waveform glitches were solved instantaneously. While on Big Sur it couldn’t even open 3.0.1 so I downgraded to 2.6 and grabbed a refurbished 2019 MacBook with 32gb ram/i9 and 3.0.4 is running beautifully on that device. Will most likely leave the 2018 on 2.6 as it will serve as a backup but updating to Ventura did solve the lagging waveform issue.

So what if you have a MacBook Air and it does the same thing by freezing when you’re playing music it glitches when switching over to a different track

Well, just came back from the club using my upgraded to 32GB RAM brand new Windows 11 laptop, following all the steps in your video, and what do I have to say: Serato 3.0 crashed again after 40 minutes. It`s frustrating. No problems with it at home and still no problems with my old laptop using Serato 2.6.2.

Are these not the most minimal of system checks you would do before doing any videos or contacting support? Glad its working though..

my serato won't even launch I am not sure how to fix it. It launches and then the app closes immediately before even seeing anything but a black screen. What should I do.

Serato 3.0 making many issues. I’m using same laptop(M1 16GB 512ssd) all background applications are closed including google chrome but still hang . Ones I rollback 2.5.7 version all running smooth

I always reboot before a set. Make sure nothing else is running. Internet off, Blue tooth off etc. I have 32gb of memory, 16inch MacBook pro. Like you I do graphics and video editing on my Mac. This is standard procedure brotha. Best of luck in 2023.

I have creative cloud, Google Drive and all that installed on my HP Elitebook and also run Soundswitch. Never had an issue with Serato crashing. Intel i7 & 32 GB of RAM. I do however stop any unnecessary services from running before a gig. I created a powershell script that stops unnecessary stuff.

Followed this video to hopefully get Serato working and it didn’t fix the issue. 3.0.4 and above just freezes every track loaded. It only works 3.0.0 to 3.0.3. I think the stems algorithm update messed Serato up

I just bought the REV 5 and updated to serato 3.1.2. I'm good playing music until I use stems. That's when i get the yellow and red dots and cracking through my speakers. I will turn off the "analyze stems on load" feature and see what happens.

When using your computer for things beyond DJing, you should have a profile specifically for Serato. That way, when you enter that profile, the background apps from your regular profile aren't running.

I only use Dell laptops and have had minimum 32gb ram since 2017 (Dell Inspiron 2 in 1 7573, also tested as dual boot mac/pc) and now just upgraded to intel 12th generation and 64gb ram (Inspiron 16 7620 2 in 1), In 10 years using dell laptops (I am most definitely a weird one🤣) I have had 2 crashes, never any audio glitches or drop outs - just a few optimizations/like turning off software turbo boost features, etc once that was fixed no more issues, then have a iPad for backup. I still have a hard time reconciling the limitations of ram on computer systems in 2023 when we can have the option of 64 (laptop) to 128gb ram (desktop) - I also use the laptop for small portable music studio and other graphics/video items installed without any issues or interference 👍

I have the same problem with Serato DJ lite I deleted all my music and still doing the same thing

I am using an Acer nitro 5 with a GeForce rtx 3070 and a I7 processor with an upgrade to 32 ram and it still crashed. I really wanted to cry so thank you so much for this video it really helped

I bought the same laptop just for using Serato 3.0 and had issues from day 1. Upgraded to 64 GB RAM, using Serato 3.0.4 now, following all optimization steps, but still issues with freezing after a few hours. Its frustrating.

I have major sound issues and I have 2015 Mac maxed out 16 gig / 2 terabytes use my Mac only for DJing and I’m going back to serato 2.5 sounds like that should fix my issues

My HP named Big Black has these freezing and skipping problems. I intend to remove from Big Black the unnecessary programs I don't need, I don't play stupid video games anyway, Big Black is music only and I have a gig tomorrow night. Hopefully your solutions will keep any gremlins from riding with me! I will go through Big Black and start unloading!

Have a MacBook Air M2 8GB RAM and Serato 3.0, Stems, Serato Video all this together works smooth with no Problems… So whats the real Problem at your System?

I redid my computer and it keep disconnecting my hard drive and glitching

Okay, I have a huge problem. Since I started using SSD for music storage lot of my tracks became corrupted, it's a second comp and 3th SSD, so I got to conclusion that I have to keep music on regular HDD, please tell me if I'm wrong or right ? Please make video about that issue .... subscribe comes right now !

I tried all your steps (restart, checked memory, analyze stems were already turned off) and still having issues. I am running a 2023 Apple MacBook Pro with M2 Chip and 16 GB of ram so the computer shouldn't be the issue. I have a new controller (Numark NS4FX) and that is when it started giving me issues. Reinstalling previous Serato version (3.0.11) did not solve it. I tried my old controller (Pioneer DDJ-SB3) and it works fine. So it seems like it is a hardware issue with the Numark? Seems very odd... I am chapped. Maybe swapping for a new unit via warranty will solve it...

Wow! In this situation it sounds like a hardware issue. Serato may not have updated the compatibility with that controller 😔

Someone need's to do everything in there absolute power to try and help the DJ community who use serato dj pro 3.0 we need to get Serato to bring out and update to fix glicking crashing and freezing problems with Serato DJ Pro 3.0 we need an update throughout 2023 to fix this problem once and for all ever since they brought Serato stems out people have had nothing but problems with glicking crashing and freezing please get onto Serato and get serato to help fix this problem once And for all....

I tried Serato DJ Pro 3.0/3.1/3.4 all malfunction distortion / freezing. Returned to 2.6 with no problems. I’m using the Rane One. Incidentally 3.4 did work on my Reloop Mixon4 . Need HELP 😢

@@floydfeatherston7297 check my comment underneath, I had a similar issue. Serato basically glitched ever since I updated my 2018 MacBook from Mojave to Big Sur. The specs are relatively basic, 8gb ram, i5 2.4 ghz processor. When 3.0 came out it would even open on that computer. I ended up getting a 2019 i9 32 gb ram and it came with Ventura and now 3.4 running perfectly. After that I said fuck it and updated the 2018 to Ventura and 2.6 is no longer glitching and running very smoothly. I haven’t tried to update that 3.0 since it’s now going to serve as a backup but idk maybe it’s your computer specs or iOS.

I don’t use the internet while in stems when I’m out of stems I use the internet

Until last week Serato was working great. Now without connecting the controller (pioneer rev1) it works fine, but when I connect the rev1 it crashes. I uninstalled and reinstalled and nothing. Any suggestions? greetings from Argentina

It’s possible. Your internal specs seem to fit the necessary requirements but I would practice with caution!

5 minutes I'll never get back being an IT guy. Was hoping for some mind blowing discoveries. I only run Serato and have no other apps on my laptop. I dont have these issues and run it on a PC because I like the power and touch screen capability.

I have no issues with serato 3.0 i use a 2017 Macbook pro maxed out

I've been having crashing issues too, but I have 32GB RAM on my MacBook Pro. I restart regularly, and when it crashes the whole app closes - super annoying. Unfortunately, I've already tried everything you have suggested, but thanks for the content

Serato recently released an update 3.1.0 I think it's worst. My PC is pretty powerful and it lagged really bad. I installed it on another laptop and it was still lagging. The fix I did was uninstalled and installed 2.6. Running great again. I don't like that 3.0 and 3.1 using so much ram and lagging. I mix and scratch when I dj but 3.0 and 3.1 isn't it for me. #partywithdjpapi

I have found that quitting the Dropbox app has made all crashes go away - haven't had the issue for several weeks.

i guess we all need to just have a long chat sometimes

Ooo yeeah ! Move to Windows :)))).....no crash ! i7, 16 gb ram, EVEN NO SSD, mixing with Stems on instant load analyse with 3 decks continous, some times 4 decks. 7, 10 hours. Mixing with video also. Good luck !

Damn 10 to 11GB holly shit! I just got the 14” too and it already sounds like it’s going to be outdated in no time. FML! Guess I’ll try to sell it and get another with 1TB and MAX Ram

16 gigs 😅 I guess that's a lot for mac users. For windows that's like the minimum if you want a decent. "Beast machines" even a decade ago were like 64 GB. Especially if you did video editing and there starting to become 128 GB

32gb!!!! Stay away from .0 software releases. Restart no matter what. The three R’s of debugging: Restart, Reboot, Reseat. Works 90% of the time.

I’m sorry, after rewatching, I may have not been clear. The 6gb from Serato + the 7-8 gigs of Ram already being used and still using google chrome with music tabs open, were eating up all my RAM. That’s essentially what I meant. But hey, I’m willing to learn more! Is there anything you think I got wrong in the video? I’d love to hear your input

could be, but the overall consensus is that my computer was doing to much at once.

Serato uses way too much resources but virtual dj won't use that much

16 GB is not enough anymore go 32 gb next time

Imagine not being aware of ram usage as a professional DJ taking well paying gigs..... Yikes. How is it you are just figuring this out now? Also from here on out spec your MacBooks with 32gb of ram (or more). Not to sound like a jack@$$ but this is pretty basic stuff my man. I'm glad this content will reach people having the same issue, but when you main tool is a laptop you need to be more aware of all of these things. I also had commented on your prior crash video about running the Serato performance optimizations, glad you did. Again this is pretty basic info to have your laptop whether it is PC or Mac be finely tuned and configured specifically for running an app like Serato.

hey man, when you're right, you're right. No excuses. I've been DJing for 18+ years and i've done my fair share of events with higher performing gear. I will say this, I've done plenty of events where other apps have been running in the background and there was NO issues up until this update. Unfortunately, I've had to learn the hard way and I hope this video can show other people how to be better than me. Thanks again for watching! Hope you tune in more.

Yes agreed it’s imperative Use Dedicated 32 GIG laptop for DJing only… When I learned to do that and refresh my OS from time to time.. I literally had no issues for years… It’s complicated but necessary given this new tech …

I purposely made the video to talk about the overall experience I was having - from the RAM issues, the settings and even the community struggling with the same problems. I’m sorry to disappoint, I was ultimately hoping you could relate to the problems I was having and hopefully follow my steps to fix them… Out of curiosity, are you having the same issues discussed in the video? If you are, did you find a different solution?

Just stopping by to express my hatred for Serato. The fact that this video exists in the first place is a scathing endightment of the software, and it deserves such trash-talk and more. Nobody in their right mind would perform a live set with Serato, and if they did I would question their dedication to the quality of their craft. It is so painfully obvious that the programmers who make Serato don't actually DJ in real life. It is also painfully clear that the developers of Serato don't bother to pay real DJ's to test their software before release.
