I just started using the "Prepare" tab. It comes in handy when you get requests at gigs. Just drag the song into the tab and it'll save the song for later when you're ready to play the song 🙌🏾

A few other posts here have mentioned it already but what is bang on here is the no-nonsense descriptions. So many other tutorials make wild assumptions about viewers' pre-existing knowledge. This tutorial is clear and concise and the video editing supports the commentary brilliantly. Had no idea about 'auto gain' (😬) but, since I like to play a lot of old school house tracks, it's really handy to know. (That said, I guess I have got to know the tracks well enough now!) Just one thing, it's "turned" not "turnt" 😬. Great video. I've subscribed.

Performance Pad view goes back to Scratch Live.. The cue points were sorted that way before DJ Controllers were a thing… When DJ Controllers became more popular, Serato wanted the layout to match the pads, but also didn’t want to piss off people who were used to that layout. I didn’t mind it, but swapped it when I got a controller as I liked it to match what was on the hardware….it did take some getting used to, but at the end of the day, I am glad I switched. However, I get why people don’t change things… as I am usually in that school of thought, but this made sense to me…. This has been your old man DJ history lesson!!!!! Bonus fact… really old sub controllers, like Dicers and HCS1000 had the cue points in stacked order as well… which is probably why Scratch Live even had them setup in this fashion in the 1st place…..

Good video bro! .. a thing I like to do with “play from first cue point” is make it silence …. If I’m going through multiple tracks quickly in a routine …/ dragging to the end of a song set a cue point trigger it so it doesn’t jus jump in … really handy

Good to know… There is a bug with CDJ3000s and Serato 3 where the cue points intermittently don’t show on the track overview at the bottom of the touch screen (and apparently the same bug in on the s11 also), but the quickest workaround is to eject the track and re load it as when it does this, it only does it the first time you load the track until you start the software again. I MIDI mapped some buttons to eject the track to quickly re load it again…. So this is GREAT to know!!! Thanks!!!!!!

When activating “Playback Use Shift” I’ve found that when you turn on “Caps Lock” you won’t have to hit shift to activate your sound effects or cue points. It’s a quick way to bypass hitting shift.

Auto gain works ...most of the time but when you get to know your tracks you may find some do not respond to auto gain so well so they are either too high or too low .Usually too low. Most will be ok but its something to watch out for.Of course analyzing your music will help.

good vid. common sense tips. the only thing i thought you should have mentioned was that High res display is very cpu intensive. My macbook pro 2014 for instance cant really handle this setting turned on. it seems to make a huge impact on cpu usuage, as does most display related settings such as screen updates etc.

Cue points is an essential tool as you can re edit a track the way you need it .You can shorten a track to about two minutes on most opo songs and then down to four or five minutes on longer tracks.Only fans music nerds or trainspotters will notice the difference if you do it right but it helps to have a thing called flip which saves the way you played your cues and loops as a dj cant remember hundreds of tracks cues and loops so flip is a useful add on to hot cues

  • @StephenPheenixx

Hot cues are suitable for mixing and transiting one song to another. Smart sync is better than simple sync.

Number 9 is library text size. Just curious. Would an AR or VR interface be useful? You wouldn’t be restricted to a 14 or 16 inch MacBook screen. I’m assuming that for gigs an AR interface would be better so you still had situational awareness and the ability to interact directly with people around you. For a streamed gig or practice/exploration VR feels like it would work fine.

You mention a bunch of settings getting tuned on. Do you have any idea what the performance and heat costs of these settings are? You had a story about the software crashing. Could that have been because you were in a hot room and your system was overtaxed or over heated? I’m curious about your MacBook hardware and how this is running. You’ve got a pro. What year is it? Do you have any upgrades to the RAM? What are the issues you run into as your system starts to chug?
