@@FoothillPaintandFabrication I'm currently working on the bed side panels and rear fenders. The SCT did the majority of the work for me, but there is more to clean up with the wire wheel. I can't remember, but did you remove the stake pockets on Darren's truck?

@@douglashart5059 No the pockets were left intact, I did straighten the rails and flattened it. You almost have all the dirty work done, good job!

Great video Mark. I’ll be interested to see what you use for your panels. The ‘49 Suburban used cardboard for everything like that including the glove box. I may upgrade that solution based on what you decide. I’ll watch. Talked to Bo in Eugene. He’s ready for my parts. Thanks for encouraging me to take that step. I’m sure I’ll be as happy as you’ve been with the results.

It's like a fresh start for the vehicle getting it dipped. I hope you don't have any big surprises and it comes out beautifully. Be sure to send me some pictures, I am sure everyone will want to see it all stripped and clean.

Hey Mark, Another good video. Very sorry for loss of your buddy. I built a couple of demonstration vans for a company when I was still working and used plastic panels for the interior. Believe it was an ABS product that had a smooth side and a textured side. It was very strong yet flexible and easy to cut with a jigsaw. I'll be using the same when doing the interior panels for my 37' with glued fabric/Naugahyde. Attaching a pic to your email of one the van interiors...

Great work Mark. I think we both know you will be sprucing up the fenders and I agree. It's the details that make a winner. Nothing against the purist but I spent 30 hours polishing the inside of my blower scoop so things like those seams bother me. As far as the trunk I have no experience in that but maybe ABS and a heat gun might be an option? Man was I surprised when you showed my project at the end of your video. What a motivator. Thank you. You keep posting and I'll keep learning.

Yeah your are right, got clean up the lines on the fenders. No choice now... I was going to start looking at some plastics to see what their softening points are. I am sure it gets pretty hot in the trunk so I want something that will not lose its shape in the summer. I expect you will have some update pictures for me pretty soon right? Mark

I hadn't thought about the heat. I can't do much on my chassis until spring. I need to make a jig for the chassis on the rotisserie and I don't like doing heavy cutting in my shop. I also have a cabinet shop in there. I can't wait to try my Rouge Fab tubing bender. I got the doner frame dismantled to use the rails for boxing my rails. My plan is to mirror and cut them then weld them together for a more factory look and make all my X bracing and cross members out of tube.I have the truck stripped down to chassis and cab. Normally April but this year it's been about 40 degrees above normal so maybe March.@@FoothillPaintandFabrication

Really digging the build! In my 20s, I fab'ed up some trunk panels for my '91 Olds Cutlass out of masonite with a dense material covering them plus industrial Velcro to attach to tabs so I could hide stereo cables/fuses and dynamat on the inside of the fenders. Thinking about the materials available now, I'm not sure what I'd use, and I'm anxious to see what you pick.

Thanks Matt, I have some experience making a clear canopy for a human powered vehicle with some special type of plastic, I need to dig out my notes on that project and see what I used. The shapes are not super complex which leaves me more option for sure. Did the Cutlass have the V6 in it?

@@FoothillPaintandFabricationi should have really paid attention to my fingers when I sent the first comment. It was an ‘81 and not ‘91. Yes, it had the v6! It had the 231 with a 350 transmission. My dad and I rebuilt the engine and had it bored .030 over and a mildly aggressive cam in it. The car was fun to drive the highway, and I’m just lucky I never got caught. When I hydroplaned and wrecked it, I replaced it with an ‘84 Buick Regal that had the same engine/transmission and was not nearly as much fun to drive, and the bonus was the AC worked. LoL!

I'd suggest putting your fire extinguisher in a different location... maybe you can put it in the panel between the tail lights. quick and easy to grab is best for a fire extinguisher.

Mark, I see where the upholstery pros are using abs plastic now days you can get from 1/6 " thick up, this is what ill be using for my 39 Willys panels. BTW nice workmanship and attention to detail.

Thanks for the tip, I will definitely look ABS up. It gets pretty hot here in the summer so I need to be mindful of the softening temp of any plastic I might use. How is the Willy's coming along?

Well it gets pretty hot here in Florida also, but the abs has been recommended by several people in the know. I will be using it for the head liner and door panels, All the body work and sanding has been done with the exception of the roof top and that should be done this weekend then on to paint, this is my second time around on the Willys have owned the car for 34 years now, Have a great day @@FoothillPaintandFabrication
