I love H. Australis so much! It’s strange how it’s so common, but at the same time extremely underrated. I have three forms ssp. australis (aka. the normal one), ssp. keysii and ‚Lisa‘, but am always on the hunt for more. Keysii and australis are pretty much the most vigorous growers in my whole collection. Can not recommend them enough.

I love my Hoya australis, it is soooooooo easy to grow; I grow mine outside all year round just north of Los Angeles County. Mine is about to bloom after about a year of growing it, I heard the blooms are nighttime fragrant.

Thanks! It really didn’t start growing until about 10 months into my care, even though it was established. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But it’s been pretty consistent since! I’ve had it for 2 years now 😊 I’m sure yours will be glorious in due time! 😘 Thanks for watching 💗

@@dreamsofhoya This is the first time I've watched one of your videos and I really enjoyed it. I just started my hoya collection about a year ago and now I'm an addict. I also bought a small Pachyclada and lost her. However, I was able to buy one a little bigger and she's happier than if she had good sense, and is now one of my favorites.

I've been obsessed with cultivated varieties lately. A minibelle was my latest purchase and I plan on adding viola to my collection at some point. Yours is so beautiful 😭 And I might get an Iris Marie. I thought it looked plain when I saw pictures of it, but that new growth is pretty. I wonder how many you got rid of. It's hard to pare down plant collections, isn't it?

Great tour Jaqueline! 🌱🌿🪴 I liked seeing every one of the Hoyas and the soft music and the pace of the video. Thank you for sharing your collection with us. I passed up a Pachyclada recently because I like harder leafed Hoyas and when you showed the hard leaf at the bottom I was shocked! Does the leaf change shape over time? These shape shifters are mystery to me. A few Hoyas I would be interested in are the Krohniana Silver, Mathilde and Serpens. How do you feel about small leafed Hoyas, Liniares and Retusa leaves? I look forward to your Trellis video and your Etsy shop launch. I want to Trellis my Krinkle 8 but the branch is overly long and not pliable and at a 90 degree angle. It would be tricky. Maybe you can help explain a tough situation like that when wanting to trellis. That heavy branch needs support somehow. Thank you 🙏 Jaqueline!

I’m so glad you enjoyed!! Pachyclada is newer to my care so I haven’t seen how it goes about hardening off yet. I’m guessing as the leaf slowly thickens that it flattens out somewhat..? Time will tell 😊🪴 I’m much more into larger, more detailed foliage hoyas over the small leaves right now. While you can still trellis future vines on your Krinkle 8, it may be beyond that point for now. I will go more in-depth in the video but it’s important to “train” them early bc once the stems become woody - they lose that necessary flexibility. There is, of course, the option to cut & propagate the plant if you want to change the growth pattern drastically. Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment 💗

Try pointing the end of the vine downward they will put out new leaves and new vines

Hello, new subscriber here🙂 Really love all your plants they look healthy, happy and chill. You probably have a video on the subject but I would like to know your Care regimen for Hoyas. Planting medium, Light exposure, summer VS Winter care etc... I have a couple of Hoyas and the recent one is Australis Lisa, beautiful little thing I must say😀 I too gravitate more towards large, thick leaves Hoyas or any plants for that matter. The sturdy ones. The only thin leaves plants In my collection are a couple of Pothos and Draceanas. I would love a “sweet monster” aka Monstera Deliciosa but space is scarce I am waiting to get my hands on the Obovata plain or splashy, Macrophylla Alba and some other large pattern rich ones and maybe a publicalix splash. As I said space is becoming a concern.🤦🏽‍♀️

This is my first video of yours. liked this a lot for its long close up views of Hoya leaves. I didn’t really get the appeal of most Hoyas not long ago but now I’m starting to. This video helped. I was frustrated at first looking for the Etsy store/your location but then I saw your answer to the comment below, fair enough, but it was confusing because I thought you said you’d say that information in this video.

LECA is also known as semi-hydroponics - they have a water reservoir. So not typical watering! There’s a lot of good info on KZread about maintaining it, but I have not made a video about it specifically.

Love this video. For some reason I was under the impression that Hoyas were to be trellised. Is that incorrect? If not, then how do you know when to trellis?

Most Hoyas are epiphytes, meaning that they actually root onto tree bark and climb the tree as they grow! So yes, many benefit and grow more impressively when trellised. Honestly, most plants we grow in hanging baskets would prefer to be climbers! Epipremnum (pothos), scindapsus, monstera - all of these grow up other trees in the wild. While they can be beautiful trailing, they'll generally not fenestrate or mature like they would if allowed to climb. Epiphytic Hoyas (in my experience and research) will continue to grow if trailing until they can no longer direct the new growth upward. Their goal is always to get the best light, and the direction for that is always UP. So they will eventually send out new growth from a node that can go vertical. Basically, trellises are a matter of preference, so there's not just one answer!
