Totally agree! I bought a 2023 Mazda for under MSRP by $10,000 (it had 3000 miles on it). My other option, a 2023 Toyota RAV4 was for $1000 over MSRP. This was in January. Now Toyota is offering me a 2024 Toyota RAV4 at MSRP in the mail, not aware I bought from another brand. Sorry Toyota, I am done with you - other brands I buy work about as well (my 2013 Subaru Legacy is now up to 145,000 with only the suspension being replaced, which happens to all my cars including Toyotas because the roads are terrible here).

I think you misread @3:31, Daihatsu is down 54%, Lexus is actually up 11.8% globally. China is fun while it last, but they can pull the rug out from under you anytime they like. At least Toyota is profitable there. VW sells a third of its volume there but hardly makes any money, and GM loses money in China along with a lot of domestic brands. VW and Stellantis keeping Xpeng and Leapmotor alive might be good for them, but it doesn't help the overall market.

Toyota will have their best year in history in North America in 2024. They have a lot of new product, and there will gaps due to all the launches. Their new Camry will easily beat any other sedan, and the new Prius is so markedly improved you can think of it as a new product. Their huge lineup of hybrids (about half their models are hybridized) is the right product for 2024 and 2025. People wrote them off as a doomed firm, but they will win big in the short term. I just wish we here in the USA could get their smaller, cheaper, and more practical vehicles that they sell all over Asia. We will never see them. Honda does the same thing. Americans would love to see the Gyro-X and Honda City Turbo II, the original pocket rocket.

Yeah I'll stick with Honda, least they're giving incentives already. Toyota dealers function like the wild west. A person I know put a deposit on a RAV4, near delivery time a year later, the dealer request they pay more than the original agreed price as "inflation adjustment". Luckily for them, they got their full deposit back and went and bought a CRV. I've heard other dealers that kept $200 of the "fully refundable deposit" to pay for sales commission. Toyota dealers are a joke.

Their 2 litre turbo and non-turbo engines have had 300 fires in the past few years. Hyundai's fix was to install a notification to inform the driver to pull over and shut it off. Didn't fix the problem, just an indicator of when it was going to happen.

I’m by no means poor, so it amazes me how many people go through buying or leasing a new car all the time. Leasing is the only way I see it happening with LLC write offs. The huge down payment for leasing and basically committing to monthly payments for eternity don’t seem worth it, but to those that like a new car, I guess it’s worth it. Not for me. I like taking a break from payments and saving cash every few years. I have a 2003 Suburban and a 2019 Mx-5, both bought used with low miles.

The problem with Toyota is their only selling point is quality. Otherwise Toyota is trying to give you as little as possible. The big problem is North American management, they decided to go the way of Stalantis. In terms of materials, features, colors Toyota is literally at the end of the Japanese pack. Example: Toyota gives you electric seats but memory buttons are in the next higher trim (which another 5k Canadian$). I think people resent being taking an advantage like this! How much actual memory button will cost for Toyota ? Like 5 bucks. The big problem is North American management, they decided to go the way of Stalantis.

Toyota is not giving them a new engine, instead NA management nickels and dimes customers. Toyota techs are saying that after such a catastrophic failure the whole new engine should be installed, not the failed engine partially fixed. In my mind, China is not a good place for Toyota. Toyota wants to make money, and is not desperate to sell more cars. So why try in a market where it is so hard to make money? On top of that, China provides huge EV subsidies and Toyota isn't good at making them. What would scare me to death if I were Toyota is if BYD buys Nissan. I can see Japan's super dense cities fall in love with non-polluting EVs and if BYD uses Nissan as an entry way to flood Japan with low cost EVs, Toyota could have a hard time on its home court. Anything good for EVs is bad for Toyota and Japan's auto industry. But Toyota and Japan could build a good EV if the will was there. They just aren't scared yet.

@@mrgurulittle7000 I think I even read the Japanese school children are taught that EVs are bad (but that is from very biased pro-EV pages so I totally admit I could be wrong). But if BYD or a combination of companies put on a big push, with lots of public chargers, or a "suitcase" battery one can take up into apartments, or just cheaper/safer batteries, then I don't know. I love EVs for dense cities. No fumes!!! I could see them catching on, under the right push. And where will Toyota and Honda be then? Still pushing hydrogen, -- that's where. That's the danger of the approach they are taking. Maybe it isn't likely, I concede that. But with tech changing so fast, the proportion of sales between EVs and ICE can change quickly. Cheers.

@@jlamm2223443No, the Japanese don’t teach their kids EVs are bad. There’s a lot of conspiracies coming from Japan hating Asian countries that try to spread rumors of what the Japanese teach in schools. I mean, Japan was the first major adopter of EVs 15yrs ago and as far back as 10yrs ago, Japan was in the top three countries of highest percentage of EVs on roads. If any company knows what the Japanese want, it’ll be the Japanese, and if the Japanese aren’t pushing EVs anymore, then I don’t see how BYD and others like Hyundai and Tesla can push EVs on the Japanese. The Japanese government is all for choice so they’re laid back in pushing EVs. But having said that, all Toyota, Nissan, and Honda have set goals to become electrified (some fully electrified and others partially electrified) by a certain date, so the Japs are working on par with the slow demand and infrastructure. This makes a lot more sense than the imports trying to do a hostile takeover of the Japanese auto market. I should mention, Nissan and Mitsubishi both offer the cheapest EVs in the entire Japanese market. Not even the Chinese BYD could undercut the Japanese prices, so they’re quite fine as they are. Also you mentioned investment in hydrogen as a bad thing, but like you said how the ratio of EVs and ice could change quickly, so could hydrogen technology if there’s a breakthrough. A huge reserve much bigger than the oil reserve was found containing pure hydrogen. Hydrogen is also already decided by most major truck manufacturers in the world like Daimler and Volvo as the standard to be used for heavy duty trucks instead of BEVs. So I wouldn’t crap on hydrogen technology. The Japanese are actually ahead in that they have EV technology and hydrogen technology instead of everyone else betting on EVs. There’s zero danger in the Japanese automakers’ approach if you see it in a broad perspective.

Maybe you get the “Toyota doesn’t want to make EVs” idea from the fact that Toyota supports the concept of having a variety of power trains instead of just pushing EVs on everyone as the only solution. You just gotta change your viewpoint. Being pro hybrids and pro hydrogen is NOT being anti EV. Turbos going to be Toyota’s downfall, Toyota is an average company when it comes to technology, driving dynamics and luxury compared to the competition. Their biggest strength was reliability, they’re messing with that for carbon foot print crap.

Toyota cars in the late 80s early 90s had reliable turbos and great dynamics.

😂. So many lexus and Toyota models already having turbo engines for a while and they are more than fine interms of reliability. Overall your comment is wrong and sound like people in the past who said hybrid engines will be the downfall for Toyota. Lexus sales are up globally by 11.8 percent. So please get a life

Good l, Toyota is the absolute worst company when it comes to value the most profitable car company can't even offer a good deal, RAV4 primes for 45+ thousand 😂 I'd rather a BMW with a b58. Good vehicles used though
