Era kontact1 never up on original T55.

I have a few Haynes books on tanks. One is about the Sherman, and another about the T-34. It's amazing to watch you and your crew work on real tanks in real life. Thanks, and be careful!

This fantastic!!! I watched the entire restoration on your other workshop channel and the detail you put into restoring gauges, air, fuel and oil lines, the transfer case, the insides and outsides was wonderful. I was sad when the tank began to leak oil all over the inside and outside and that the paint became damaged when you did repairs sometimes burning it with a torch and when it became a wartime mess running it in mud!! When the new engines arrived, I was so happy thinking you would replace the smoky, oil leaking original right away. It's great you have finally started to get the tank back to museum fresh and will consider swapping out the engine after the dyno tests. The work you and Dirk did over the 2 year restoration was amazing.

Most modern militaries wash every vehicle after they get dirty (in garrison). The brass doesn't like dirty equipment in the motorpool so they are cleaned to a pretty high standard. Milo's tank has gloss paint so it shines well, unlike CARC....

It looks great nice and clean Trev South Australia.

I really hope for a turbo or something some day, would think there are plenty of parts for these engines as they are used for drag racing, i mean how epic would a tank that can properly drift be

He had some guys helping him with the restart of the engine who do run a team for tractor pulling, they have a rig with this engine :-)

Kleine correctie voor de ondertiteling, de koepel of Toren heet 'Turret' in engels. 'cupola' zoals in de ondertiteling is eigenlijk een vrij ronddraaiend torentje op de toren zelf, voor de commandant. De m60 heeft een hele grote bijvoorbeeld, google maar naar afbeeldingen.

Okay, the huge piston clearances were bad, but that engine got it moving and tested :o)

Should try oven cleaner to clean the engine bay, super cheap and very strong.

About the smoke. It's an 80 years old construction. If it's not smoking, that means it's not turned on.

So, if the excessive oiling is a problem, and there are no valve stem seals in the design to limit the excessive oiling, why not integrate them into the valvetrain? There are valve stem seals available in every size combination and material. Granted, these would be mostly automotive, truck, and agricultural based, but as an automotive machinist, this adaptation is done on other engines on a regular basis, so why not a Tank? To be honest, as variations of this engine design were used on models well into the 1990's, id be surprised if there are not already seal specifications for a later model (T64, T72) that would retrofit. This engine isn't even supercharged or turbocharged, and therefore has no specifically high pressure ratings. All it needs to do is simply act as an oil wiper, the most basic type of seal..

You should add ERA to the tank. Looking good

@@rokbleki3929 ERA stands for Explosive Reactive Armour. You might have seen them on more ”modern” tanks. They are small bricks of explosives you put on tanks to increase the armour of a tank for relativly cheep. When a shell hits the brick it will explode and might compleatly stop the projectile or just weaken its velocity, and thus reducing it’s penetrating value.

He wants to put the original engine on test at the company he was before, if its in margins and oil leakage not to bad he wants to put it back to keep the tank as original as is possible, otherwise he wants to put in a replacement engine.

@@geoffroberts1126 It just has a unswitchable smoke system ;-) Milo said it smokes so much because when its cold the seals of the cylinders are cold and leaking more, and with the already bad state of the engine it looks bad, when the engine heats up it becomes a lot better

@@geoffroberts1126 We will see, he is planning to get that engine to the engine tuner company, will be some more interesting footage, still wants to keep the original engine just because they had loads of work on it and to keep it completely original, but does have a load of replacement engine's so we will see.

Maybe the dodgy red diesel that was seized then returned because it wasn't diesel is contributing to the excessive smoke.

It is diesel. But it isn't red diesel. That's why Milo got it back. But it is old diesel as it's the same diesel Milo pumped out of the fuel tanks when they started working on this restoration. It's old and it's probably red because it came out of old and rusty fuel tanks. But that's all. Another reason for the engine smoking is the fact that these engines don't have valve seals.

@@destructionnl8165 red diesel is normal diesel just untaxed its usualy used for tractors and such also as a fuel for heating . its colored so that they can track you down if you get the cheaper untaxed version at least here where im from

@@fretwu That's exactly right. And that's why Milo's diesel was confiscated at first. They thought it was red diesel. Milo got it back after investigation proved that it wasn't red diesel.

Zijn tot zo ver nog geen T-54s of T-55s gezien in Oekraïne hoor. Enkel een trein in Rusland met enkele oude T-54s, maar niemand weet waar die naar toe gaat. Lijkt mij ook eerder dat ze de gemoderniseerde T-55M's eerst zouden inzetten. Ik zou eerder verwachten dat deze T-54s gewoon naar een fabriek worden getransporteerd om uit elkaar te worden gehaald voor onderdelen of staal.

Helemaal rookvrij sowieso niet, omdat deze motoren geen klep seals hebben. Op die manier kan er altijd olie bovenop de zuiger komen en als die olie dan vervolgens verbrand wordt, geeft dat rook. Het zou wel mooi zijn als hij minder gaat roken, dat wel.

I believe the valves have no valve seal’s, which is common on these engines.

If you watch the video where they started this engine without the exhaust manifold (clip is in many of the video intros too), you can see some cylinders produce very little smoke, others smoke like a steam train. Some of the valves had deep rust pits in the top of them, but were only machined a little, holes still remain, and thus valves won't seal 100%. Needs new valves and likely a new head. Was easier to get entire engines, hence why he has 4 to choose from.

The tank is going to painted, there was a lot of oil and grease on it, thats now removed. With that grease and oil the pain would'nt stick...

Where is the young blonde bloke? I have not seen him for a while on YT.

You mean Dirk? He was an employee of Milo but he got another job as he had to do a lot of driving every day to get to work and back home again. He basicly had enough of driving so much and he got a job that's close to his home, which gives him a lot more free time than he had when he still needed to drive so much for work.
